  1. God bless her...You are a lucky man :clapping:
  2. You may have inadvertantly cleared the security codes. Only a Porsche dealer can re install those codes. If you have a good relationship with a dealership nearby you may be able to get them to come to you and reset the codes. This happened to my car when my engine conversion was done. Not saying that this is the problem but it's a possibility. Hopefully your new DME will be the fix. Good luck!
  3. Glad to hear you finally had success! :D
  4. That is soooo awesome. Great picture a that speed.... Co Pilot???
  5. Agreed, Go for the newer car. Cash talks now and you should be able to get a screaming deal on an 02. I can't believe how much Porsche's(as well as other luxury brands) have fallen in the last 6 months. Take you time and find a perfect one!!! Good luck!!
  6. If you do search here you will find a lot of information and opinions on air filters. The K & N is fine as long as it's not over-oiled. Excess oil is what fouls the MAF. Best bet is to let it sit out overnight (or longer) on some newspaper and let the excess oil absorb in the paper before installing. The filter and cold air kit will not give you any HP gains. You will get a throatier sound though. That being said if you want to go for the sound just get the cold air tube and stay with the stock paper filter. That way you will completely avoid any MAF issues. Good luck! Phillipj
  7. Hey Phillipj, Sounds awesome.. Good luck with your new machine.... Thanks ! :D
  8. Okay, after 3 long months since my 3.4 engine failure I have my car back, :clapping: Although it still needs some additional tuning it is awesome. The 3.6 is really a different animal that the 3.4. The power band is different and the sound is completely different. It is really quite a bit faster. :D I have the Fabspeed mufflers and the Schnell Tips and a light flywheel. Makes the car sound quite angry. :P At the end of the month my tuner will come back to LA and do a final dial in. It is intentionally running a bit rich now as well as the Device that controls the Vario Cam Plus needs to be adjusted. If anyone is considering this swap (3.4 to 3.6) in the So Cal area and would like to drive my car I would be happy to let them test drive it. It should be perfect at the beggining of March. Thanks for all of the input from everyone on this site for helping me get this done. I spent a lot of money but it looks like it's worth it in the big picture. Cheers  Phillipj
  9. Carrera 4 is normally aspirated (non-turbo.)
  10. Problem solved. It was just a breaker switch. All is good. It's a beautiful day and now it's time to go wind the 3.6  :D :D :D
  11. That is quite an offer Brad. Glad to have you on the forum! :renntech:
  12. The oil in the cooling system should circulate to some extent and eventually make it's way to the highest point in the system(the re savor). I know this sounds crazy but I was first told this by a very knowledgeable factory tech. with 25 years of Porsche experience. Drain the cooling system and fill it with distilled water and about a cup a cup of Shout detergent. Elevate the rear end of the car with a floor jack and let it reach operating temperature then drain the system. Repeat this two or three more times or until you're satisfied that the majority of the oil has been removed. Then use only distilled water to flush the system of soap. Finally fill and bleed the cooling system. If you find that after 3 runs of the Shout you still have loads of oink in the system than you clearly have a serious problem. I know it's unorthodox but I've done it and it works like a charm. I still service several of the late cars I've done this with and after years they still show no ill effects from the soap. Feel free to flame away but remember I love you guys. :renntech: Dr914, It's not just you. The "Shout" method is exactly what the tech did to flush my system. I had never heard of it but it obviously is effective.. :D
  13. Usually the amp has a seperate power lead to the battery. If the battey cable was disconnected, I would assume that this cable may be hanging by itself. Pull the shroud and see if you have a power cable to the amp off! Power amps turn on and off by use of a sense singnal Hence the direct connection to the battery. Thanks Kevin! I'll look at it tomorrow. One question, How is the cable from the amp usually attatched to the battery? Thanks
  14. I just got my car back after the new 3.6 engine conversion has been completed. The car is awesome except I'm not getting any sound to my speakers. The battery was obviously disconnected during the engine change and I'm wondering if that has anything to do with it. I have a Kenwood DDX7015 CD/DVD/NAVI with a large amp in the trunk. I did not install this system (previous owner) so I know nothing about it. I'm pretty good with an engine but not audio equipment. The company that did my conversion has no idea why there is no sound to the speakers. They will pay for any repairs or diagnosis to get it fixed. Just thought I would get some insight from the forum Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks !! Phillipj :D
  15. One easy remedy may be to clean your idle valve on the throttle body. It's on the left lower side of the throttle body. You just have to remove the electrical connector and two screws (torx if I remember correctly) It gets filled with carbon deposits. If you tap it gently and carbon falls out you might have found your culprit. You can clean it with carb cleaner. Get it as clean as you can and reassemble. Should take you 30 minutes in and out. Worked wonders when I had some idle problems. It fixed my problem completely and didn't cost a dime... :D Hope this helps.
  16. You might want to take look at what used Porsches (all models) are going for now. They are very, very cheap. It may make more sense to just get another car as long as your not taking a huge hit on your existing car. In my case I just bought my car 3 months earlier before the engine went. If were to have sold it "as is" I would have been lucky to get $8 to $10k for it (and it's a 2000 C2 cab with lots of goodies.) I would have taken a total loss so an engine replacement made more sense for me. I saw some rediculous deals on 05 Carrera's with warranties. I would imagine all models have fallen drastically. Look around, do some research, crunch the numbers and see what makes sense. Remember if you do an engine swap (other than OEM) you will not be able to get an extended warranty. I will never buy another Porsche without an extended warranty again. Well worth the money. Hope this helps and good luck... :renntech:
  17. Thought I would share thse pics I found of the new GT3. 09 (10?) has 20 hp gain up to 435hp. Starts selling in May. What a beauty....
  18. Hobbes, Excellent write up! Great pictures and attention to detail. Looks awesome. Would like to see it once you change out the other bulbs. One with the best documented DIY's I have seen. Thanks!
  19. Will be picking up car on Thursday. The car is finished but I have been on a business trip and now I'm going out of town again til Wednesday.. It supposed to run awesome and I'm very excited to drive it. Will report my response next week. This has been a very long road. I hope my experience can help others in a similar situation. I've learned more about engine replacement than I ever wanted to know! I ended up getting $1k for my 3.4 core. Updates coming next week! :clapping: Phillipj
  20. +1 great advice :D
  21. Do a search here (use the search tool at top right of page) on Boxster engine failure/replacement. You will find a plethora of options, opinions and choices. Good luck and weigh your options carefully. I'm sorry to hear what happened but if it's any consolation it happened to my 996 too
  22. I heard they were banned by the FIA in 1938 as Alien technology :lightbulb: (which of course would be an unfair advantage.)
  23. ???????????????????
  24. :clapping: Welcome and congrats on the new toy! She is a beauty :jump:
  25. nice ride man i'm interested to put the rear fenders too,996 or 997 turbo so can you give the info if your rear fenders are originally 996,or they are oem turbo's and converted for taillights? i have look the pic's and can tell precise, but the rear wheel look's pretty "inside" to me and i guess it might have the turbo width, wich i want it too here u go........... http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/996-...-now-i-see.html Maci, I just noticed on the other site that you going to add on a SC and Nitrous!! :o You are an adventurous one I'll give you that!
