  1. Your mechanic should stand by his work. Unless he told you ahead of time (if you tracked the car) he would not stand behind it....
  2. Aero kit usually intails side skirts (rocker panels), front bumper (or chin spoiler) and rear wing. If you can post a picture it would make it much easier. :D
  3. :( :( :( :( :( There is another one out there with your name on it... P cars are like dogs...You give them a good life and always remember them when they are gone.....
  4. I would not think a flywheel would be replaced with such low mileage as yours. Unless it was damaged of course. I'm sure others here that have done their own clutch jobs can provide more information on that. My old 996 had the original clutch and flywheel at 72k miles. Also remember that dealers will tell you that everthing needs to be replaced.....
  5. I'm sorry to hear that. At least you have eliminated the idle valve from possible culprits. I hope you can find the problem. I'm all out of ideas with my limited knowledge. Good luck and keep us posted.
  6. I know of one other member here who had a similar issue with Porsche. If I recall he put together all reciepts for regular maintenance and work done to show how well he took care of the car. He pushed the issue with proof he was on top of all maintenance and as you said "babied" the car, never tracked the car etc... It seems to me with some persistence you could (at worst) get them to cover some of the repair. You could even have them read for over revs on the computer to show that you didn't beat up the engine hence didn't beat up the clutch... Maybe this would be a route to take with them. As Loren said remain civil but be a pain in their butt at the same time. It seems Porsche uses "wear item" pretty loosely. Isn't every part on a car a "wear item"? Hopefully some other members will chime in with some other advice as well. Good luck and keep us posted.
  7. Doesn't sound right to me. I would continue to push the issue. I'm sure there are others here that have had to deal with similar situations with Porsche that may be able to guide you. There is no way you should need a new clutch and flywheel after only 16,000 miles. (unless you track the car.)
  8. So I don't have 50 extra HP?
  9. This may sound like a long shot but look for something that may rolling around under your seats. I had a noise in my oldd 996 that bugged me for over a year. I too had my wife ride with me and try to determine where it was coming from. It seemed like a phantom. It would come and go...... Niether of us could really pinpoint where it was coming from.... Finally (when doing a really anal cleaning on the car) I found an air pressure guage underneath the passenger seat along with some other debris. (I was the second owner.) Voila! No more rattle. :clapping: I couldn't believe that I had gone so many other routes looking for the phantom rattle. maybe worth a shot..
  10. My dealer is on par with what you describe. They are worthless and treat you like dirt. Even the cashier has attitude. The cashier? :o If I go in and ask technical questions to the service department it is clear that I know more about their cars than they do. I would never buy anything again from them let alone a new car. I would suggest taking your business elswhere and complain to Porsche about them. Porsche has had this issue for quite some time from what I gather. Whoever manages their dealerships is really dropping the ball. Too bad ... Such a great car. You would think with Nissan making a supercar for $70k that they would get a clue.
  11. No noteables. Just a bunch of guys in their 40's and 50's (like me) with little blue tickets in their hands waiting their turn for the fun ride! Reminded me that things do not really change no matter how old you are.. :D I agree the PDK is awesome but I like the manual too! I have a 996 and it was my first time in a mid engine Porsche. They are awesome cars. Much more forgiving that the 911. I have a client who has been to Porsche "Driving Experience" 20+ times lol! Another option would be to go to any race driving school and learn the basics. I'm sure it would make you and I a better driver. Phillipj
  12. Agreed .. Plenum is a good one. I have never had a problem with a K&N filter either. But I believe this poster is considering the K&N "Cold air kit" which has been known to cause some people problems. It also requires drilling some holes in the car..
  13. Anyone go besides me to Fontana this weekend? Got to drive the new Boxster and Cayman with PDK with an instructor. Really fun. Made me realize I don't know how to drive fast at all. lol! :clapping: There were some great vendors and beautiful P cars. A very good time. Even my wife thought it was cool. :jump: Phillipj
  14. I would just re install the cleaned idle valve and see if there is any improvement. When I cleaned mine the car had 70k miles on it. It was very dirty as well. Ididn't analize whether it was worn out. Put it back together and see what happens. success :D
  15. Buy a hand pump from your local auto parts store. Thanks!
  16. I'm sorry if I'm ignorant on this subject but how do you re-fill the gear oil once it is drained? Thanks !
  17. Wayne could you post a pic of the throttle body connected to the intake...I have been told countless times that it would not fit the stock intake distributor and a few times it will fit. It's not that I don't believe you I just want to show it to the naysayers. Dave I have a friend with an 05 997 S. He is putting the X 51 throttle body on and was told by his tuner he has to replace the manifolds as well because of the difference in diameter. I would like to see a picture too!! Is it that it will fit the stock manifold but will work better with the X 51 manifold? Thanks!
  18. Does it start now with the new fuse?
  19. There are lots of threads here on repairing your top if you do a search
  20. This happened to my 996 as well. What I did was to open the engine cover with the rear emergency cable (much easier to access than the front cable) and access the "jump start terminal" ( if you don't know where it is the location is in your manual.) If your hook up a battery to that connection (positive to the terminal ground to the body) you will be able to pop your trunk. Here is a link for a similar problem to yours. Scroll down and look for "tool pants" reply. He posted a photo that shows you where the emergency cable is located in a Boxster. In a 996 it is under the taillight on the drivers side. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...ood+latch+cable Hope this helps
  21. You could go to a good independent and have the same service done. It will cost you less $ and still keep you in good standing with your warranty. Just make sure you use approved fluids (and of course keep your service receipts.)
