  1. That's your opinion. The Niissan GTR is faster than the Porsche Turbo.. Does that mean that it has a soul or the driver feedback of the TT?. Just because the 991 is more cabable of getting through corners quicker doesn't mean it's more fun to drive than the 997. When you turn off all the switches can you still drive it to it's maximum? Doubt it.. I guess I'm just a "confused traditionalist" and must be crazy to not to be "amazed" by the 991. I have driven one (a S with SC) several times and taken it on my favorite twisty roads. I still like my 997 Turbo (and my former 997 S) better.. More electronic aids do not make a more exciting car (quicker yes) but not more exciting... :soapbox:
  2. Doesn't sound right.. I used to drive my 996 at +125 mph with no issues...But Logray is correct.. These cars do get "light" in the front end at speed.
  3. I have to agree. I wouldn't consider trading my 997.. I do like the look of the 991 but not the feel. Too many aids. I guess that is progress though. Maybe it will grow on me. I don't think so though...Too much like a BMW...And don't even get me started on the badging.. Who the heck "green lighted" that blemish...????
  4. I'm sorry I don't know the answer to that.. You should be able to find that info pretty easily. The guys at Suncoast or Sunset could probably help you..
  5. You shouldn't be afraid of quality mods. There are no CEL's or any other issues. These engines were made to handle 700hp. (not the clutch though..) The time you can get into trouble is when you buy crap. Evoms, Softronic, Pomotove, BBI, GIAC all good stuff. The great thing about the Promotive is it's very versatile and you get more revisions without paying again. Both Softronic and Promotive use a flash cable so you always have your own original stock file. You can return the car to factory specs in 5 minutes.. It (the ECU flash) really transforms the car..
  6. Great write up.. You rock... :notworthy:
  7. Or how about a 1996 993 Turbo like this one.. Ohhhh this is a sweet car... http://www.autotrade...315959185&Log=0
  8. Pictures please John!!! :welcome:
  9. Smooth side against engine. You should be able to see the pleats in the airbox inlet. see Pic.
  10. 0356kid, I hope you didn't take my response in a negative way.. I wasn't trying to be a jerk.. It just seems that this is such a hugely requested subject it may be warranted to have it's own forum. It would make it easier for new members (like yourself) searching for information.. Just an idea... There is a lot of information here on the IMS...Jake Raby is another great source. http://www.flat6innovations.com/ Good luck! Phillip
  11. I think my Turbo posting days are over...One reply? Sad...
  12. This subject has been beaten to the point of nauseum. Why don't we just create a folder or link with the IMS subject? Then the curious can find there answers there without having our brightest members answer the same questions over and over and over... Just Sayin... :soapbox:
  13. I agree that the suspension is shot with 80k miles. If the car is lowered than you will never be happy with the ride (even with new shocks) if your looking for comfort. I have a 997 Turbo. I recently lowered it and the ride is still very good. But....If I'm going to go on some of the nastier "stop and go" freeways in Los Angeles I'll take my Scion... Much more comfortable and no one wants to race me every 100 yards. I would drive a 996 with newer suspension and see what you think. And I agree ...All Cabs have a rattle or two. It's not a Lexus or a Jag... And was not meant to be. If you ask me the 991 has lost some of the raw "Porsche" feel.. Too many driver aids now.. Too comfortable... I hate the new center console..Even my knees hit it and I'm only 5-8". People want there cars to be more like Lexus or a MBZ.. I guess that's progress but it's sad.. Just my 2 cents...
  14. Tony, No worries. Glad to have you on the forum.. :welcome:
  15. There are lot of folks on this site that live around that area.. Be patient and I'm sure someone will give you a lead on a good shop to take it to.. But like I said be very cautious driving the car. A sudden overheating becuase of a failed pump (or loss of coolant) can crack a head and or cause cylnder damage..which equals an engine rebuild...You don't want to go there....
  16. test drove a 991S with the PDK a couple months ago. It's a beautiful car, but I was happy to climb back in my 997.1 2S - it's much more raw and engaging. The new cars (especially PDKs) make it easy for anyone to drive quickly, and that doesn't interest me. Agreed.... The new 991 Turbo is going to have 3 turbos and 4 wheel steering. Again an evolution.. But as you say...Will make it easier for anyone to drive quickly. I'm with you.. I have driven the 991 and do not want to trade in my 997.. When I first drove the 997 I had a 996. And at that time I did want a 997... right away.. I don't have that feeling with the 991. Plus my knee keeps hitting that new center console and drives me crazy..(and I'm only 5-8".) I guy wanted to race me in my TT in his new 991, We had a freeway on ramp sprint.. He lost... By a lot.... :king:
  17. Here are some pics of the car.. I went to the Rose Bowl near my house at Mid-day so lighting is harsh. Still gets the point across though... Car will settle a bit lower as the the springs settle.. Next and last mod (for awhile) is spacers. 14 mm rear and 7mm fronts. It will look a lot better..
  18. Porsches rock.. I saw a 996 C4S at my mechanics the other day.. It was freakin gorgeous.. Lat week I ran into a guy who had a 1996 Turbo. He told me he bought it new in 1996. That car was amazing and it was 16 years old! So yeah Dennis.. Your 996 rocks...
  19. I wouldn't drive the car anyomore until you have diagnosed the source of the leak. If your water pump fails while driving it can have devastating effects on your engine. Ask me how I know... :cursing: If you have a good independent have it towed there. If you go to the dealer be prepared to open your wallet twice as wide...
  20. Try using honey instead of vinegar when you want help... Just sayin...
  21. Just to put my 2 cents in... Agree with Loren that the HP claims for an ECU flash on a normally aspirated car are "aspirational". But.... I had a 99 Carrera that had Fabspeed mufflers and their chip. I don't know how much HP I gained but it made the car more fun to drive. More responsive and quicker from 0 to 80 mph... I would try to find a shop near you that tunes Porsches and see if you can drive a car like yours that has had an ECU flash. Then you can decide if it's worth the money.
