  1. Shop around. Maybe you can get the OEM kit even cheaper than aftermarket. They may be having more specials now on the older 996's
  2. Check out NR Automotive. I had their aero kit on my 99 C2 and it looked excellent. It was a front spoiler lip, side skirts, rear bumper, GT tabs and rear wing. They are not inexpensive but the fitment and quality is excellent. All on the parts on my car were polyeurethane not fiberglass (except for the wing.) As far as re sale goes you are not going to see a penny out back of adding a body kit (OEM or not.) You have to know that you are going to eat that money just like any other mod. You might sell the car faster than stock but you wont get more for it. Look at used P cars and see what I mean. Some purist I guess must have Porsche plastic rather than some elses plastic (fine if you have no budget issues.) But if you can get the Porsche kit as cheap as whs got his that is definetly the way to go! That was a screaming deal.. The most critical element is who does the prep and paint. A bad body shop can make the most expensive body kit look like crap. Just my opinion..
  3. Great information. Interesting about the plenum though.... I put a plenum on my 99 3.4 C2 and noticed a dramatic difference in power at 5000 rpm. At the same time my friend with a 2005 C2S coupe installed the plenum and got reduced performance.. Thanks for explanation about the X 51 and other details. Great write up! Phillipj
  4. Good job. Sounds like a good fix :renntech:
  5. My button actually came off too. I was also weary of putting epoxy in that area. What I did (and it may turn out to be temporary fix) I cut a small piece of double sided tape and pressed it in partially in to the slot on the button. Then I pushed it on to the male part in the brake handle. Worked great and it is firmly on there.
  6. That is just another Dealer horror story. Here is one of mine. I had an unusual engine noise in my old 966. It seemed to be coming from left rear of the engine. I took it to several places one being the dealer. They told me I needed new engine because I had a bad crankshaft. I wasn't going for that... Luckily I read a post on this site that had a person with a similar noise (even posted a sound bite.) Turns out it was a loose spark plug. The sound was exactly the same as mine so I tightened my plugs.... and noise was gone. Dealer wanted to replace my engine..... nice. I loath those people. Now thanks to this site I do almost all my own work on my car. :D I determine the work that needs to be done and I know that it's done right. If you want to be a happy used Porsche owner do things yourself. Sorry to stray from the warranty thread.....Just my 2 cents..
  7. Sounds cool. Please keep us posted. I would like one for my cab..
  8. Double check first to make sure there isn't a real hamster in your engine bay. I have heard of rougue hamsters attacking random Porsches for no apparent reason...
  9. Sweet license plate :clapping:
  10. $2,800????? :o :o :o I'm going to treat my stalks with utmost care from now on......
  11. If it were your spark plug tubes oil would get on to the headers even in a straight line. They usually leak under heavy acceleration. From all the faulty AOS posts I have read here yours sounds like a classic case. As long as the smoke is heavy and white (not blue or black :o .)
  12. Dave, I will stay in touch. Have you already purchased you X 51 TB?
  13. Found this on Craigslist in Los Angeles http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sgv/cto/1107195747.html
  14. +1 Fabspeed makes good products but their HP claims are absurd.
  15. It is the Variocam Plus. I have done a conversion from a 3.4 to a 3.6 in my 996. The biggest difference from the 3.4 to the 3.6 is that surge of power at 3K rpm. I like it. Still tuning the electronics in my car so the Vario cam at 3k is sort of like a nitrous shot
  16. Sounds like AOS to me. Does your car have the other AOS symptoms as well? (smoke, rough idle etc?) There is another AOS thread here from this week where RFM provided a test for the AOS. Try to search for it..
  17. Wayne, When you had the RSS Plenum modified did you give the maching shop the specs? Or did you just give them the TB and the plenum and tell them what you wanted done? Also Dave.. I'm in Los Angeles as well and would like to follow your process if you go the same route Thanks!
  18. What oil do you suggest other than "Mobil Water"? :D What brand do use in your car and what weight? Thanks!
  19. Sorry to hear about all the problems you're having. I think the problem lies more in the way Porsche runs their dearlerships than the cars themselves. I agree they(the dealers) are the worst I have ever experienced. I love my Porsche.. But I won't let a dealer touch it. I won't even talk to them. I loath them  I have had BMW's and they break too (in my case a lot.) It's too bad that Porsche doesn't pay attention to Dealer satisfaction. Now they have just lost another customer (that would be you.) I don't blame you and enjoy your BMW! Why doesn't Porsche get a clue???????
  20.
  21. After hitting a cement wall at 100 +MPH I don't do that anymore. If you want to go fast do it in a safe place. Bad things happen real fast at speed. It's not very much fun.... :cursing: I had someone trying to race me in a Prius (seriously) the other day. There are so many idiots out there... Let the idiot crash instead of you. Take your baby to the track and go as fast as you want!! :D
  22. I have never heard of a reputable mechanic that wouldn't stand behind his work for at least 30 days. Make sure that others are warned about this jerk. You have to wonder about a guy who has already checked with his lawyer. The throw out bearing is a standard replacement during a clutch job. What puts you in a bad position is that you tracked the car. Otherwise you would have a pretty clear cut small claims case. I'm sorry to hear about your situation. If you post the area where you live I'm sure members here can give some recommendations of some indie mechanics with a good reputation.
