  1. Yes but i couldn't get a consensus on what was good or not. Some people like Redline some not. Royal Purple I do not know about. I'm just a bit gun shy about the wrong lubricant after replacing my engine. I know there are other options available but I felt I couldn't go wrong with the Shell. Thanks for your input :D
  2. Jim, Thank you! I have never tried any electrical work. Sounds simple but a little intimidating This sounds like a really good idea especially in the summer here in L.A. So is the switch visable in the batwing? Thanks again! great info :clapping: Phillip
  3. Hmmm.. Ignition switch is still a possible suspect. Hopefully others will chime in with more expertise than myself. Good luck
  4. Okay I found the "Shell Transaxle" (factory fill) at Sunset for $22.51 per liter (3 liters needed.) About $9.00 shipped to SoCal The part number is 999 917 546 00 Hope this helps othe folks doing their tranny service. Phillip
  5. See if you can find out who replaced the transmission and why. He should have the reciepts. Go talk to the place that did the work. If it sounds sketchy move along and look for another car. Like White987s says there are LOTS of Porsches for sale at very good prices Regarding a design flaw in 996 transmissions that is false. Engines yes :o transmissions no
  6. The ignition switch is still a suspect. How old is your battery? Sometimes a failing battery can create strange electrical issues. Have your battery tested first.
  7. 1999Porsche911, How do you manually turn on the engine compartment fan? Thanks!
  8. A new bumper cover and little paint and she'll be good as new! :clapping:
  9. I have been a bit confused regarding alternatives to the factory fill gear oil in my 996. I read in one post that the "Delvac 75w-90" was a replacement for the "Mobil lube PTX"(factory fill) I went on to the Mobil 1 wesite and posted the question to them.... Here is their reply.. We do not claim that the Mobil Delvac Synthetic Gear oil 75W-90 is a > equivalent to the Mobilube PTX. We would suggest using the recommended > product for your application or contacting your local dealer to see if any > alternative are available. > > Regards > > > Technical Support Engineer (CRG) So I guess that gives some clarity. Thought this might help others looking to service their tranny.. >
  10. Just curious....How much did you pay for the 3.6 from L.A dismantlers? How many miles were on it? Thanks, Phillipj
  11. That's a great story. I hope that PorscheFan can have the same success!
  12. I'm sorry to hear about your engine. Mine failed a well so I feel your pain. Start by doing a search here on "engine failure" and you will find a lot of useful information. I'm afraid you have very little chance of Porsche having any "goodwill". I'm in Pasadena. I'll PM you later with some other info. Good luck
  13. Do a search here on 'Clutch labor". You will find lots of info.
  14. Excellent! :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:
  15. It's the black square piece on the upper top left side of the throttle body. It has two screws and a electrical connector that remove it. It gets filled with carbon. I had idle surging issues on my old 996. RFM suggested I clean it and it fixed my issue. Very simple job. I believe RMF suggests to use brake fluid as a cleaner. I used Carb cleaner and it did the trick. Car ran perfectly after that. Good luck!
  16. I'm looking at the picture and I think Jon may have a point about the offsets. The front looks a bit off. Attached is a pic of my lowered 996 C2 cab with 19's. The wheels on my car seem to have a smaller off set and tuck into the wheel well nicer. Like Jon said though it just might be the picture. Mine was lowerewd with H & R springs. The ride is quite rough but it handles good. The previous owner did the mod so I don't have any details to share..
  17. too bad there isn't more coverage like this on blown Porsche engines. Maybe they would have fixed the problems long ago if there was. In normal conditions it will be a cold day in h**ll when Porsche would replace your engine. But if this guy can keep up the media coverage he just might get somewhere. BTW...Nice mural on the hood
  18. Dude, That is horrible.. I'm sorry for you. Your friend must be banned from any future ride along privledges. There is no excuse for throwing chunks in your P car. I hope you can resolve your climate control issues. May not be as bad as you think. I would take the car wash to small claims if needed. Tomorrow will be a better day.
  19. Your best bet would be to get the ROW 30 suspension kit from Porsche. Lowers the car to Euro specs and makes it handle a heck of a lot better. Here is a good thread to read on the subject. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...owering+springs Success :D
  20. Agree with Mike. Good to hear that it wasn't major :clapping:
  21. I looked at the Motul oil discussed here. Based on the online price your looking at $165 just in oil. http://shop.edoperformance.com/motul-300v-...ils-p-9802.html That's a bit much IMHO. Only because our cars take 9.5 quarts. Feedback?
  22. sweet :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:
  23. Do a search here. You will finds lots of good info. It has been covered many times.
