  1. Just started looking at Turbos. I have seen some clean ones and some that are in really poor shape. Is there anything I should be especially conscious of when looking for a car? I'm in no hurry so I have lots of time. I'm staying away from cars that have a lot of mods (unless it's factory mods.) Acceptable aftermarket mods to me are a CPU flash, exhaust. Obviously I will be looking at maintenance records from private parties and dealers. I only looking at cars with a warranty as well. If I find a car I like I will get it inspected. I'm quite familiar with what to look for in Carrera's but not so much the Turbo's. I'm still dealing with the worst used car experience of my life with my present car so I don't want to make that mistake again. Any input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks !
  2. Wow I like the "glitter" on the oil filter
  3. I think it's just a biological reaction. Like seeing a supermodel when you are 18
  4. Awesome. I love happy endings :D
  5. Use the OEM. No reason to change to an unknown
  6. That's the plan. Problem is until I get some more things sorted no one will want it. What do you have now and what do you want to get?
  7. Benjamin, I think I'm replacing every part on my car (against my will.) :o It's not that I want it perfect ..I just want to be able to drive it! I wish I were spending money like you are..Trying to pervent issues on a good car. All I have is issues on a bad car
  8. Thanks for the input! 355, I would like to keep my current car but it's sucking all the money out of my bank account. This one is truly a lemon. It got a clean bill of health from a reputable Porsche shop before I bought it as well. I'm picking it up tomorrow with another $1000 bill because of leaking injectors. One more major incident and I think I'm going to set it on fire. Not for the insurance just for the pleasure of watching it burn :o AP997, Regarding the reliability of th 05's I know that it's debatable. But even Porsche admits that there were engine issues that year. That's why they will still replace the engine out of warranty I have a young friend who has an 05 S and he drives the h*** out of it and tracks it. He has also modded the engine with everything he could find short of a supercharger. Mommy and Daddy have deep pockets so price is not an issue. He has had no issues with the engine. Hopefully these engine failure discussions will be a thing of the past very soon. Thanks for everyones input on this Phillip Going to look at a 2002 Turbo this weekend. We'll see.. Might just write him a check and leave mine at the side of the road with the keys in the ignition....
  9. Thanks ;) .. Maybe I should get in on the "Cash for Clunkers" and drive away in a spankin new Cinnamon Red Corolla
  10. I'm thinking about dumping my 3.6 conversion 996 and taking a huge loss. I found a 2005 997S launch car with low miles (18K) and for a good price ($47k). It has ceramic brakes and all the goodies. Any feedback on buying a "launch" 997? Thanks !

  12. THE WALL STREET JOURNAL Porsche, Volkswagen Agree To Framework Of Merger Deal -- Sources By DANA CIMILLUCA Of THE WALL STREET JOURNAL Porsche Automobil Holding SE and Volkswagen AG will take another step toward uniting Thursday, when they are expected to announce the framework of a deal that would raise much- needed cash for Porsche and ultimately fold it into VW, people familiar with the matter said. The supervisory boards of the German automakers are expected to vote Thursday morning on a so-called memorandum of understanding, which would be a precursor to a more detailed and firm merger agreement, one of the people said. As part of the deal, a state-backed Qatari investment fund is expected to lend Porsche's holding company EUR250 million ($355 million), less than it earlier planned, one person said. Qatar may also take a larger-than-expected 10% stake in Porsche's holding company, which currently has a market value of EUR7.7 million, this person said. Porsche was forced into VW's arms when a bold attempt to buy its much larger rival backfired. Porsche had bought a roughly 50% stake in VW, Europe's largest automaker, and secured options on another 20%. But the roughly EUR10 billion in debt it accumulated in the process ultimately proved too much to bear. Amid slumping auto demand, Porsche is now scrambling to raise funds to pay off the debt, which will ultimately cost the storied automaker its independence. As part of the complicated deal, which would ultimately merge both the Porsche holding company and its auto unit into VW, both Porsche and VW plan to raise fresh capital. It is unclear how big the capital increases will be, but late last month, Porsche said it would sell new shares worth at least EUR5 billion. To maintain their stake in the luxury automaker, the Porsche and Piech families plan to sell an auto distribution business based in Austria to Volkswagen for more than EUR3 billion, one of the people said. As expected, Qatar is also expected to buy a 17% stake in VW through the options Porsche accumulated, which are valued at as much as EUR5 billion. The terms could still change and there's no guarantee the boards will approve the deal, which at any rate would still be subject to further negotiation. Spokespeople for Porsche, Volkswagen and Qatar couldn't be reached for comment late Wednesday.
  13. Sharkster, I'm sure I would be quite dangerous in a 500hp RS. :drive: .I saw your 3.9 motor rebuld link. Very impressive indeed... Nice to see a company that has so much passion for P cars! One day I hope to have you tune on one of my toys!

  15. I have a 3.6 in my 2000 996. Is it possible to run the serial number on the engine and gets it's history? What car is came from? Was it from a salvage? A Carfax type deal? I have a friend at Porsche who may be able to run the number for me. Thanks
  16. He states in his opening post he uses Amsoil. By the way Bill congrats on the trouble free Porsche!!!!!! :jump:  :clapping:

  18. That's about where my temps have been in both 996's. I have never had either of my cars ever go below the "0" of the 180 in any conditions.
  19. I don't know what it's for but it's pretty :D
  20. No excuse for the disk... It was a sprung disk and any tech worth his salt knows which way it goes. And if you're not sure make a freakin phone call. The guy is supposed to be a Porsche "tuner" not mechanic at Sears. They also punctured a hole in my canvas top  and broke my center console storage lid hinge. What else..... Didn't tighten an exhaust tip.. I noticed it was crooked and realized it was ready to fall off becuase it had never been tightened. Left tools and utility knife in engine compartment... It goes on and on...  Car is at the mechanic now. I will post the entire Roock tale and it won't be emotional. Another member her is going through a similar nightmare and I will get him to post his experience as well. I understand the distance problem. But that really hasn't been the issue. Thanks again for all of your help
