  1. Dharn, You know that dealers charge twice as much as they should. They S##k. I hate them. Unfortunetly Tekky is at their mercy.. :o
  2. Your 05 reman engine should have the updates. And if it was installed by a dealer you should have gotten a 2 year warranty. My advice would be to look into and extended warranty. Call these folks and see if they will offer you one. They have a good reputation. http://www.easycarecustomercare.com/easyca...CFc5L5Qod5nKtsA Good luck
  3. If you always go 2nd to 1st (at a stop) you should never have a problem. All my Porsches have had that 1st gear issue. But it sounds like you are having abnormal difficulties. Go have it checked. It is under warranty I hope?
  4. Take it to the dealer. I drove a Boxster S with PDK at a Porsche "Ride & Drive" It didn't have the issues that you speak of in any way. It was very impressive and I didn't notice any lag. Somthing is wrong.. Good luck
  5. Also Carbon Fiber turns into little pointy projectiles if you ever got into an accident. :o Leave the CF hoods to the clowns in the lowered Hondas.
  6. Just got my new borderless "scratch free" towels from Zaino. I have had a black car before so I know the damage you can do with the wrong tools. Now that I have a black car again I decided to order these. I tried them out last night with one of their spray detailers. Really awesome. Extremely absorbant and soft. They are kind of pricey but are washable. Just thought I would pass along a good product for those chronic detailers out there. Here is the link. http://www.zainostore.com/Merchant2/mercha...Product_Count=1 Not affilaited with the company. Everything I have ordered from them is excellent.
  7. Sounds like the switch to me... It's a relatively easy and cheap DIY. Replace it and se if it solves your problem. Do a search here for DIY instructions. 5 year old battery should be replaced as well. Just good preventative maintenance.. Good luck
  8. Try to find out what dealer originally sold the car and try to get a warranty from them. Do it sooner than later. As long as you have a good maitenance history ( and has been done on Porsche's schedule)you shouldn't have a problem.
  9. That sucks. I hope you are able to recover that. Freakin Tow trucks.
  10. Try Jake Raby I pinged him -- Busy guy tho -- hope he gets in touch soon. Mike Jake's the man --- he emailed me 1.690-1.700 for both exhaust and intake. Figure I would post it here in the unlikely event someone else needs it and can find this thread in the archives. cheers, Mike Awesome.. :D
  11. Tekky, You can buy the OEM replacement much cheaper online but I doubt that you dealer will install parts that they don't provide. Even if they are genuine Porsche parts. You can ask them. They like to make that 50% mark up on parts for some reason :D i would deninetly do the clutch though...
  12. It's so good to hear about competent installers that don't treat Porsche owners like fools. There are some real crooks out there. I'm not going to mention any names (Roock Autosport in Atlanta) Oops!! Did I say that? Must have been a momentary surge of good jugement
  13. I would start with what the manual says for the 19's it came with. I believe it is 42 for the fronts and 44 for the rears. See how that feels and you can always adjust based on the feedback you're getting for the car. You might want to get in touch with a good tire shop that does high end cars. The guys at Tire Rack are also very helpful.
  14. thanks! So can I use the same DIY that is in the 996 maintenance section?
  15. Excellent!! Nice work :clapping: I like your Ipod holder as well :D So are you Oil pressure and Voltage gauges in the instrument cluster de-activated or is the addition to?
  16. If your Porsche dealer tells you that you have to drop the engine to change the oil and filter, I think you've been sold a bill of goods my friend. See this post: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=7055. The procedure for a 996 is pretty much the same as a 997. I'm just as leery of doing my own maintenance as you, so I had my independent mech, who used to work on my old M-B W123, do my last oil and filter change for $20! I supplied the 9 qts of 0W-40 Mobil 1 and the rest of the bits, including the filter and crush ring from Sunset Porsche. The whole thing set me back a grand total of $110. And seeing how easy oil and filter changes are, I might attempt the next one myself. Cheers! 355, I actually find it easier to have my mechanic do my oil changes as well. I have a similar relationship (with my mechanic) as you do. Changing the oil is easy...It's disposing of the used oil that I find a bit of a problem.
  17. I guess this is a question for Loren, Is changing the Serp belt the same for the 997 (05 to 08) as the 996? Just wondered for future maintenance.. Thanks
  18. You are 100% correct about DIY. Looked under the 997-2 while they had it on the lift yesterday. The tech told me it takes approx. 1.5 hrs to drop the engine and about the same to put it back. He said "it's designed for that" I don't think they can do much to the engine without dropping it. The shop rate is $135.00/hr. It looks like for anything other than topping off the oil I'll be getting out the check book. Working on motorcycles is tinker toys compared with this. With my lack of skills, tools and facilities, self maintenace on this machine is not a sane option for me. Actually things like the serpentine belt, pollen filter and air filter are extremely easy. It's actually silly to pay a labor charge for those items (unless you don't care.) Plugs are a bit of work. Brake pads are very easy. Porsche made them that way. Rotors are very simple as well but you will need a bleeder to complete the job. I guess it just depends on how much you like (or dislike) working on your own car :D And like you said if you don't have tools and a comfortable place to work on the car it doesn't make much sense.
  19. Gentlemen and ladies: Please consider my apologies with all sincerity. It is clear my post did not come out like I wanted. I did not intend to offend or slam the site at all in any way!! Just wanted to point out that there isn't as much participation as I've seen on other sites. I belive there are many more 911's out there than BMW motorcycles. In fact this is the only site I've been able to find that provides what I'm looking for re 911's. Didn't mean to compare this site to another with negative criticism. I will continue to visit and contribute. Having said the above, phillipj, bmohr and goldenwarrior seem to have taken offense to the point of vitriolic response with unnecessary hyperbole. Chill guys. I'm okay now.... :D
  20. What was the original question in your topic? Sometimes, when the subject of the topic is fairly common, like oil change intervals, a search will bring up a wealth of info covered in past posts. Cheers. Sorry to harp on, but I concur. I was a member of a BMW forum, and there was a lot more people there willing to share technical info. I just don't see that level of technical knowhow here, but I am sure I am wrong. dadbeh I think that people here do their best. I was a complete noob a few years ago and I have learned a great deal here. Perhaps more BMW people work on their own cars. I know where I live very few Porsche owners would ever consider a DIY. Porsche owners look at me like I'm crazy when I tell them I do my own maintenance. It's not that people aren't willing to share their expertise. Perhaps it's because very few of us have expertise to share!!
  21. Bob, As I fired it up early this morning (in the dark) the PSE growl and the smell of leather made me smile :D I'm truly thrilled with this car. Thanks for all the kind words. I'll try to take some pics this weekend. Have a great labor day... ;)
  22. So you rip on the site and then want help? I don't think so..
  23. EasyCare doesn't have that option?
