  1. Sorry, I wasn't trying to be an auction expert and I had no idea you were a dealer. Just plausible that a troubled Turbo could go for that price. All the best.. Oh By the way.. Here is a nice Lambo with some minor smoke damage :clapping:
  2. Well considering they sell here in jersey every week for high 70's- low 80's, I don't know who in their right mind would take a 10-14k hit on a car instead of just shippin it to somewhere where they can get the right $ for it. Unless the car has some sort of branded title, I find it hard to believe. So I don't think saying that they are not worth anything right now is an accurate statement, sorry. Auction cars go for a serious discount because in many cases you cannot inspect them before purchase. The car may have had issues or been a theft recovery with unknown treatment. $66k for a turbo at auction is not out of the question in todays market. This is where dealers get many of their cars and sell them for the figures you mentioned. I don't believe the original post ever said that "they were not worth anything".
  3. I have to agree the car makes me smile everytime I drive it. It is very quick and effortlessly fast. I took it on some twisties (that I know very well) the other day. I was amazed how neutral the car was in the corners. Stock suspension and tires in "Sport Mode" is quite something. Very very happy :D :D :D  Phillip
  4. Adding X 51 airbox is not that simple. Do a search here....
  5. Kirk, Here is a recent post on the subject of the clear bra..... http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...c=29247&hl=
  6. Hopefully someone with more expertise in this area will be able to help you out. Good luck! Phillip
  7. May I ask why you would want to remove it?
  8. Thanks for the Welcome Phillipj, I had them change the side lights too before I took it home. Here is a pic. Kirk Sweet! :clapping: Love the wheels! Enjoy! If you like to detail your own car I highly recommend the Zaino products. Get some of their scratchless towels. I just did a 2 stage wax tretament over the weekend and the car looks like black glass. It's awesome.. Congrats!!
  9. Congrats on the new car!!! :clapping: I just got a new (to me ) 997 Carrera S. I changed the side markers and I swear I'm going to leave it stock as well! I hope I can hold to it! Post some pictures please!! :welcome:
  10. I had one that was bullet proof and one that blew up without warning. There are more that are reliable than ones that are not. I love the 996. But I'm going to say it again. Get a warranty
  11. If you want a 996 Porsche get a warranty. Thre are some great 996 Turbo's on the market with reasonable prices and warranties. If you are a long time Corvette owner you will be very shocked about the costs involved in any drivetrain issues in a P car. My advice would be to spend more money and get the newest one you can. There a many 996's at dealerships with warranties. They are awesome cars. Just do it right and you will be a happy owner. Just my 2 cents.
  12. Do a search here on "replacing ignition switch". easy DIY Here is another thread http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...c=29141&hl= Do not let your mechanic or dealer replace the entire assembly!! Ingat ka!
  13. Glad we could be of help. BTW get your parts at Sunset Porsche. The link is at the top of the page (Porsche Parts at Dealer Cost ) Great guys and great prices and no sales tax :clapping:
  14. These guys : http://www.bumperplugs.com/BPindex.html advertise a non-smoker package, but don't tell you what it is. Check them out. dadbeh We DO tell you what it is! :) It replaced the ashtray on the rear console of any 996 or 986. And it is for 996/986 ONLY. Nothing made for 997/987 variants (yet)..... Thanks for asking though. Sorry. Looks like a business opportunity Eric :D
  15. If it's just a "Hot" smell that is normal for a Porsche. Double check to see if you have any kind of leak that may be getting on to the exhaust. Has it always done this?
  16. Have to agree about the light flywheel. I had one in my last 996 and now I have the 997 with the stock DM flywheel. It's so much better and easier to drive on the street. Although the LWFW is a bit quicker it's not a good trade off. If you want to stick with the LWFW the you should get a sprung clutch. Look at the SPEC products. You should get a new TO bearing, pilot bearing as well as new flywheel bolts. You can also get the 997 fork (just a few bucks.) You will never get rid of the rattle. That is just the nature of the beast. Listen to a new GT3 and you will hear the same sound. Good luck
  17. Do a search here on coil packs. It will give you a good idea on what to look for when you inspect them. If they are the original packs they most likely need to be replaced. Also you may need to hook up a Porsche tester PIWIS to see if it's throwing any other codes. An AOS on a Boxster is an easy DIY. Do a search here on that as well. Clean your throttle body and Idle valve if it's non e-gas. (search here as well) I'm sure others will chime in and help you with more ideas. Good luck! :welcome:
  18. could they come back and say ...... well this is off road exhaust and this car shouldnt even be on the road so we are not payin? Just state the parts that you are comfortable with. Leave the bypass pipes out of the equation
  19. +1 u know im not familiar with the process of buying it back, id love to. i am the DIY type and would love to have some parts off this thing for sale, keep, and momento of my first 911. who do i buy from? insurance, auction or what? is it at a considerable discount, like 50%, 80% off or do u know? It would be at a considerable discount. Discuss it with the insurance company once they make you an offer. Chuck Jones (that is his screen name as well) is a member here. He bought his car from the insurance company after it was totalled. You should send him a PM and he can tell you the procedure.
  20. I spoke to a lawyer when I crashed mine. He (or she) would really step in once the insurance company makes you an offer that is unsatisfactory. Might be good to have one on standby just in case..
  21. For sale -- slightly used 996 bumper cover. Has some minor scratches and stone chips. :D Just playin... If you got hurt I wouldn't dare
  22. One more thing... You may want to buy the car from the insurance company after they settle with you. You could piece that car out. Sell the engine, tranny, wheels (those look like "super lights") seats etc. All these items are in high demand and you would have no problem finding a buyer. Others have done this with great sucess. Just depends if you have a place to store it.
  23. I can try to help you with the question but thank God you are okay. What a shame. That was a beautiful C2. I crashed my 99 996 (no old lady involved) at high speed last year. I bounced in a cement tunnel like a pinball and walked away. They (Porsches) are amazing how they protect the driver. Good luck with your insurance company. You may be better off with a total. The frame may be bent (as well as other hidden damage) and the car will never be the same after an impact like that. You will likely have a very troublesome car if you try to repair it. If you present reciepts for any upgrades you did (or recent things like new tires etc.) they will take that in to account when they offer you a check. Make sure you look to see what cars like yours (with similar mileage) are going for in the market. They will average the retail and private party price of "like" cars in your area and use that as a base. Geico gave me a very good price for my car. All the reciepts for upgrades helped. Remember you don't have to accept their first offer if you think it is unfair. You can negotiate with them. Good luck and I'm glad you are okay..
  24. Awesome, Let us know how it comes out
