  1. Awesome pictures. What a storm... Have no clue what that is like being a native Southern Californian B)
  2. Call Sunset... Link at top of webpage "Porsche Parts at Dealer Cost - Sunset Imports"
  3. That's a classic Autotrader scam. The owner is always in one State and the car is in another blah blah blah. You can pay for the car through their escrow company blah blah blah.. Pretty easy to see through those.. I just report those to Autotrader so they can delete them..
  4. Under the 996 DIY "Maintenance" section.. Did you see this one? http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=7059
  5. Agreed, Pay for an inspection from Porsche then... Do all the easy stuff yourself and have an Indie do the things you can't. Like Toureg said...The air and cabin filters and wipers and such are SUPER easy. No reason to have a dealer gouge you for those things. (unless you're into pain :o .) Go online and you can order all the stuff you need for cheap... All OEM as well.. Good luck
  6. Sweet! You might want to think about a GT3/GT2 front bumper and side skirts to go along with your new wing. She is a beauty... Enjoy!!! :welcome:
  7. Don't know about that brand but... Do a search here on "wheel spacers". There are a lot of good threads and discussions. Especially about longer lugs with the spacers.. :welcome:
  8. I found this article by an English gentlemen who built a Porsche 914 with a Supercharged Chevy V8. I being very ingorant on the relationship of horsepower vs Torque I thought this was a great article.. It hepled me understand why a Porsche can outperform cars with much larger displacement and HP.... This is for "tech-heads" interested in this kind of thing (like me.) :P Here's the link... http://www.v8914.com/Horsepower-v-torque.htm
  9. Awesome write up. Please keep these DIY's coming for future projects. And yes the bumper looks sweet! :clapping: Thanks!
  10. The Porsche Turbo wheels are 19 not 18 inch. And the rears are 11' not 10". Can't be Turbo wheels. They are probably Carrera 5 spoke 18's. (if they are 18's.) Probably 19's.
  11. :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: :drive:
  12. Now I'm off to the parking garage to see if I can set off some car alarms : ) That's freakin awesome... I guess I'm not the only juvinile out there :jump:
  13. Now I have heard of a failure.. Thanks for the info JFP......
  14. Looks great ! :D I covet your garage... Mine is a leaking, flooded mess..
  15. I know all of the 997 2006/2008 engines have the improved/strengthened IMS design. I would imagine the 2006 987 would as well. I have not heard about IMS failures in 06+ engines... ;)
  16. James, I have never herd of changing gear oil causing problems as long as you stick with the Factory fill recommendations. But there is really no reason to do it until the 100k mark. Some people have had issues by experimenting with other (non approved) oils and viscosities.
  17. Pictures please!!!! :D
  18. Great news!! Glad it all worked out :clapping:
  19. Thanks RFM..Now I learned something as well! :D
  20. I believe it will give you a warning message on your dash because the antenna will not be picking up a signal from the wheels (hence detecting a malfunction.) Don't know if there is way to defeat or override this though...
  21. Loren would probably be the best one to help you on this. But for what it's worth I'll through in my 2 cents. How many miles an your clutch? Is it slipping at all? Have you checked the gear oil level in the tranny? Porsche says to change the gear oil after 100k miles. I doubt that your factory fill oil could be causing your issues. Do the synchros grind or is is just difficult to get in gear? If not grinding it could be a shift cable issue. Although 996 gearboxes have been known to fail it doesn't sound like your problem fits the typical symptoms of failure. I do have some experience with gearbox problems on my old 996. Mine turned out to be clutch related. Many other here have had shift cable issues that have caused serious problems (an easy fix by the way.) Hopefully others will chime in on this and help you out.
  22. Is it a rattle? If so it's probably noise from the Lightweight flywheel and is totally normal. If it was your throw-out bearing it would "squeal" after dis- engaging the clutch. Regarding HP read the newest issue of Excellence magazine.. There is HP out there if you have DEEP pockets... B) Congrats on procuring my dream car... :clapping:
  23. Congrats on the car! I would take it to the dealer and see if there is a TSB for that issue. I remember that the 997-1 had a lot of issues with noises (sqeaks, rattles) that came for the Sport Chrono clock. I believe the dealer had a TSB for that. It's under warranty so have them deal with it. At least you know where the rattle is coming from. A lot of times they (rattles) are phantoms and will never make a noise when you want them to. :o Good luck!
