  2. Do you have to put a front license plate on? I have driven all my cars for the last 10 years without one in California and never been stopped. Maybe I have just been lucky (or maybe the police like my cars. .)
  3. Try "Simple Green". Spray it on the wheels and let it sit a few minutes before washing with your choice of detergent. I always wash my wheels last when I wash my car (and I never let them get that dirty.) Unless you have REALLY neglected your wheels this works great. Sorry I just noticed your post said "track day" Disregard my response

  6. Be careful not to lose the rubber grommets on the bottom of the airbox (there are 2.) Don't for get that little vacuum line on the right rear of the box (the 996 does not have this.)

  11. At 10 y/o, was shifting my Dad's 356 from the passenger seat when we drove places. At 17 I was removing the speedo cables on my Dad's 356's so I could take them for rides and not change the mileage...a cat & mouse game for years. At 20, bought a European version '69 911s in '71 -- probably my favorite car. 5 across the years. A life of crime. That's the best story yet!
  12. I had the B & M SSK in both my old 996's. I have a 997 S now and I like the stock shifter better as well!

  15. I just drove a friends new 997 GT3 :P ... Seemed like a freakin "real Porsche" to me :lol: When I was young my Dad and many friends had air cooled Porsches. They were very tempremental and throwing a timing chain was a pretty normal occurence. But I coveted owning one myself.. Like 355 says.. I like all Porsches.. The sound of an air cooled Turbo is fantastic... Just seems kind of silly to dismiss the evolution of the 911.... :cheers:

  17. All the timer is for is to give you you're electronic oil level. When the car is cold it will usually be just a few seconds. Once the car is warmed up sometimes it will give you a long timer like you mentioned. Check your oil level when you first start the car (when it's cold) and then forget about the timer. The only thing that you should be concerned about is that the car is at operating temp (180 degrees) before you go over 4k rpms. Once you're at temp you can drive as hard as you want..   18. Do a search here .. There is a lot of information and opinions. I have had Conti's and liked them, Pirelli's and liked them, Kumho's and liked them. Depends on your climate and quality of your roads. Size of course depends on your rims.. Stock or aftermarket :cheers:

  20. I recommend buying a Porter Cable polisher, and learning how to DIY by practicing on your daily driver or wife's car! +1 on the Porter Cable polisher... And the practice..... :lol: I got my Black 997 looking pretty amazing with that thing. It also saves your shoulders ;)
