  1. I have Easycare as well. Got another 4 years and 40k miles for my 06 997 for $2800. Bumper to bumoer with roadside assist and will cover road hazards such as tire punctures and wheel damage. $100 deductable. Can take car to any Porsche dealer or authorized mechanic. Any mods (unless Porsche) will void coverage. (exhaust, chip, springs etc.) The warranty is also tranferrable. My dealer recommended them (Easy Care) over others because they know Porsches.. Good luck..
  2. Agreed, Get the 2S or the 4S with the sport Chrono..
  3. If it is a CPO car you should demand coverage. That is something that should have been checked.....
  4. Even if you do find that the headers will fit you car you will only see hp gains if you add "high-flow" mufflers, 100 cel cats and a flash of your ecu. The headers alone will not give you any noticable improvement..
  5. Good.. Then it's not your AOS. Just Normal..
  6. I see both points and I have driven both... The PDK is awesome... My six speed manual is awsome.. I say what ever you like is the better option.. Just trying to mediate what seems to be a sensitive topic.. (Notice he has both hands on the wheel.. Must be a PDK...)
  7. Spray you wheels with "Simple Green" and let it stand on the wheels for about ten or fifteen minutes before washing. I use the cheap latex gloves from Harbor Freight. I never hurt my hands. The Simple green does most the work. I use a medium size cloth with car wash soap to get off the residue. Then I use a Vacuum / blower to dry the wheels (if you don't have one of these you should get one (http://www.cardryer.com/Cardryer.html) so that the residue water doesn't ruin the clean wheels on the first drive. This is a 4hp vaccum and blower. it kicks butt. It get all of the water out off your calipers and disks and hard to dry areas like your wheel lugs. The blower blows warm air so it dries as well... Hope this helps..
  8. Agreed if the price is right.. Like I said..Some are fortunate to find a good dealer....
  9. You can do almost all of it yourself if you have a few tools and aren't totally mechanically retarded. Then if you don't want to deal with the plugs have an "indy" do that for you. Keep all your receipts and make a log of the work that was done for your service records and presto! 60k mile service done!
  10. There are quite a few members here that have built track cars. Hopefully they will respond to your quiry.. Sorry I can't be more help...
  11. Dealers are a joke. Don't take into account anything they say (unless you happen to be one of the few who have a good dealer). I bought my 997 S from a independant Porshe dealer for $53.9k with 17k miles on it. My local Porsche dealer wanted $63k for the same car. Just be patient and keep looking. If you have cash you are in control. Yes some people are unrealistic about their asking price. There are so many Posrches out there for sale I'm a bit suprised you are having a difficult time. What year and price are you looking for? PM me and I'll give you referral in Studio City which is not too far from you. A good guy with good P cars.. Phillipj
  12. I believe the the costs associated with trying to convert a C4 into a GT3 would be prohibitive. You would probably be better off just buying a GT3. Hopefully others with experience buiding track cars will chime in and give you some guidance. Good luck!
  13. Is it a "cloud" of smoke or a "puff"? If it is a thick white cloud that kills all insects in a 100 yard radius it may be your AOS. It also could be an oil "overfill" if you have recently changed your oil.
  14. In the old days Porsche used rotors with 2 threaded holes in (between the wheel bold holes, downwards) all you had to do was screw in two long M8 bolts, one by one, the bolt ends hits the hub and pushed off the rotor, this of course was too easy to repeat.
  15. I would stick with the OEM pads for the street. Buy all your parts online from Sunset or Suncoast. Like Loren said all parts are listed in the DIY.. Super easy job...
  16. I changed my headers myself on my 997 on ramps. Super easy. Took my an hour.. You should have no problems with your header bolts with only 30k on your car. I agree that 3 hours labor sounds about right.. Easy job if you want to do it yourself. But I can also understand having someone else do the labor
  17. Have your water pump checked. Your car is about the right age for the pump to fail. These engines do not like to overheat. I had a warning light and a low coolant level like you describe in my 2000 996. I topped it off and kept driving it. A few days later it blew up (oil/water intermix). Water pump had failed with no warning and caused massive overheating. It either cracked a head or the freeze plug blew. Not trying to scare you but have it checked before you keep driving the car.. Better to err on the side of caution when that light goes off.. Your coolant is going somewhere....... Good luck!
  18. I have not heard of any but a fellow member here (who is also a Porsche mechanic) says he has. Although the 06 upgrades made the IMS failure less likely I guess it didn't eliminate it altogether. That is why I have an extended warranty on my 06 Carrera.... Just in case... My mechanics nor my local dealership have never had an 06 engine failure.. For whatever that's worth...
  19. Regarding the 4 years or 20,000 miles.. I would of course change all your filters (engine & Pollen) change your serp belt and flush your brake fluid. If you are even the slightest bit mechanically inclined you can do all of these yourself (except possibly the fluid flush.) Ther are DIYs on this site. You can do the belt when you change the engine air filter. If you have never done it before it wil take you maybe an hour to an hour and half. The pollen filter takes 5 to 10 minutes. You can buy all the parts you need on line for cheap.. Just keep your reciepts and make a log of the service you did for your records. If you have the brake fluid changed by your mechanic have him do a once over of the underside of the car, hoses, brakes etc.. All the things to check are on the site under "maitenance schedules".. You can change your spark plugs too but it may not be necessary. Hope this helps..
  20. Agree with Jaybart, That is a great deal especially if loaded with options.....
  21. Great idea... Would save a lot of folks some grief... Example.. The loose spark plug "chirp" diagnosed by the dealer as an "engine replacement"
  22. . porsche sound is not great to start with..... That is the under statement of the decade. I have the "top of the line" in my 06 997 and it is barely tolerable
