  1. Oh my I'm so sorry to hear about your mishap. Luckily you are not hurt. Looks like the same can't be said for the green monster. Please let us know if thecar will be repaired. Phillip
  2. Let's put it this way. If you get all the options you mentioned you will never see that money again. I fully optioned Gt3 or Turbo fetches very little more than a model with very few options. The PCCB brakes alone are $10k. In resale you will never get any of that back. But... PCCB brakes are incredible to say the least.... Guess it just depends on how deep your pockets are and what you really want on the car. Good luck on whatever you decide. That is one sweet car you are getting.... :welcome:
  3. Starting to look at 997-1 Turbo's. I have driven the 997-1 and the new 997-2. Although the new one is an improvement I'm fine with the 997-1. I'd like to have one with about 25k on the clock. The going price for what I want seems to be about $72k to $79K. What do you fellas think about prices in your area? I'm in Los Angeles. Any input would be apreciated! Thanks
  4. Get an 06 997 S with the sports chrono package and PSE. Lots of them out there. Oh yeah......And get an extended warranty.(I had a 996 blow up as well.) You will freakin love it...
  5. Loren is right. We all like to think that we can get more power out of our cars (and believe hype) but it's a slippery slope $$$$. A good set of muffters and a a chip flash will make the car more fun to drive though (about $1500.) That being said it won't have 30 more HP.. Just enjoy your car and like Loren said.. Real power increases can only come from the Turbos. So save your money and get one on those next! :clapping:
  6. :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:
  7. Agreed... Lots of cars out there.....
  8. I had the same problem after putting 20's on my 997. I had the wheels re balanced and an alignment and now the car is perfect. I agree with the others... Your car should not have a "shimy" at any speed....
  9. I checked with my mechanic and he said $1300 is a fair price. As you can tell from Logray's post it's a real PITA. Might be a good time to think about and a new RMS and possibly a clutch (if you need one) while your in there.
  10. You will have hook up the scanning tool and look for fault codes. Your car is still under warranty so I would get it to a dealer and let them deal with it. Let us know what happens. Ingat Ka .
  11. I know that on the 996 it's a real PITA to replace the AOS. With a TIP it's even more labor intensive. I believe they have to pull the engine to get to it. That's why it's so expensive (labor.) The part itself is around $150.. Remember the dealer is going to be about 40% more expensive than a good independent mechanic. Stay away from the dealer... Some people on the site have done it themselves. Hopefully they will reply to your post. I would contact some reputable Porsche techs in your area and see what other quotes you can get... Good luck
  12. I wonder how many reman engines Porsche has sold since the M96 was created? Guess only Porsche knows that.:censored: Cegarner, You can also look at the Porsche dismantlers for an engine out of a wreck. I'm afraid that I, Dharn and others here have been down the same road you are on..
  13. I don't know anyone who sells just one side. That will be tough......
  14. Oh My... I would take it to your dealer or indie and have them inspect the car. Explain what happened at the smog center. Make sure you hold them (the smog center) liable for any repairs... Good luck
  15. Mera, I'm so sad to hear that Porsche is unsympathetic. That's really bad. All I can say is that I have been in your position. It's not an easy choice. I have one piece of advice for the future though... NEVER own a Porsche without a warranty. Consider it insurance cost of owning the car. I would probaly go with the reman engine as well. That way you'll get a warranty.. Good luck and I'm sorry to hear what happened.
  16. Agree with all other posters. That is a rediculous estimate. Also the leak from the rear of the engine could be just a leaky cam cover. Not that big of a deal. Stay away from dealers...They prey on ignorance..
  17. look into "Easy Care". I have their warranty on my 06 S Carrera. Bumper to bumper ($100 deductable) for 4 years 60k. Think I paid $2750 for it. Easy Care has a good reputation with my dealer and my indie shops. Best of all their adjusters know Porsches well. Make sure you talk to your dealer about "Auto protection" and see if they have worked with them. I personally have never heard of them. I did a lot of research on extended warranty companies. Be very careful who you deal with. Good luck
  18. Contact Eric there... I'm sure he can help you out..
  19. I would take your car to a GOOD Porsche indie mechanic that you can TRUST and have him look it over. It's a good sign that there is no water in your oil. I wouldn't drive the car anymore until you get this diagnosed. If you had a cracked head you would most likely have intermix in the crankcase already. Good luck!!!
  20. "Try push starting it in reverse, see if it will fire up. " Expalin please......
  21. Sounds like a new engine to me... Porsche always recommends a reman engine (even if there are other choices.) It also is quite likely that Porsche will give you some "good faith" on this one.. A very unusual failure. Definetly push for Porsche to pay for this. Squeaky wheel gets the oil.... Please let us know what happens...
  22. The battery jump point is in the engine bay. At least on the Carrera it is....
  23. Lots of threads and opinions on this. Do a search. If you change the exhaust, cats, intake and flash the chip you will get a slight increase in power. No where near the claims though. I think that most agree that after these mods the car is more fun to drive if not faster.. Its a lot of money to spend. You have to decide if it's worth it.. Read the threads and see what others have said. Good luck! Oh and on the K & N... Some people love it and some hate it... Go figure. Just know that oiled filters can cause problems (Fouling the MAF) and do not do as good a job of protecting your engine from contaminants..(as the stock filter.)
  24. Not saying it is for sure the switch but it's possible. You should probably hook up a scanner and see if there are any fault codes. Otherwise you'll just be guessing. Good luck
