  1. Geoff, That's a great story.. The Turbo I just bought is a CPO car. Which means I'll be taking it to the dealer, I have established a pretty goo relationship with the service manager there. One of my friends has also introduced me to his favorite tech there who is supposed to be one of the best. It's the managment that's so awful. Really rude and snobs. Like I'm supposed to respect a rude car salesman. right up there with a retail clerk. Hopefully I will have a good experience to report when I bring my car in for a few minor issues. All the best
  2. Thanks!!!!... New tires next.... They don't last too long on this beast.
  3. It's the "Intermediate shaft" common to M96 engines (1999-2008) Do a search here and you will find a PLETHORA of information on the IMS. The IMS design is a weak link in the design of the engine. The design was to save manufacturing cost during a time when Porsche was in financial duress.(at least that's the concensus.) Not a stupid question.. Nobody but Porsche owners would know.. Here is a great link that was posted recently to help you understand the IMS. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?/topic/35117-ims-bearing-replacement-complete-giant-tech-article-inside/page__pid__186057#entry186057
  4. I appreciate everyones expertise on this.. Whether it's too expensive or not... It's good to see other folks coming up with solutions for these engines shortcomings.
  5. Sorry, Wasn't aware of the LN price. Just seemed fair to me because I spent $16k once replacing a :censored: M96 engine. Didn't mean to get you so upset:rolleyes:
  6. Nice to hear you have a great dealer Geoff. Rusnak here in Pasadena could use a couple of semesters of charm school :censored:
  7. Here's a pic of my rocket with new exhaust tips. The stock one's were really bad.. They discolor and "look like they belong on a Corvette" (quote from my wife actually.) Porsche didn't do a very good job on these... These are Fabspeeds. They are quite light and fit perfect. 5 minute install. I'm really happy with the way they look.
  8. I agree about the price of the tips It's rediculous. Tech Art wants $900 for theirs! I actually bought some similar tips from another company for $450 (trying to save a little cash) When they arrived the hardware was weak and they didn't fit properly. I sent them back and "ponied up" for the Fabspeeds. They are lighter, very good quality and fit perfect.. If the tips were for almost any other car they would be $200 bucks.. Oh well... Sure looks nice... Good luck with your car. I know you enjoy it. Mine makes me smile everytime I drive it:clapping:
  9. I can't answer your codes question but I can give some input on the others. The Turbo engine (like the GT3) is a noisy engine. That 'rattling" noise is normal. I just got a 997 Turbo (after having 996's and a 997 Carrera) and I'm getting used to it (the noise) as well. As far as getting your original engine mapping back... Only Softronic allows you to re install your orginal mapping. When you intall theirs (map) with your laptop you keep the original file (factory) in case you ever want to return it to stock. If you don't have the Softronic whoever re mapped your ECU can put the Factory mapping back for you. And yes you can do it with the PIWIS as well. Hope this helps.
  10. Beautiful car Pete..:clapping:
  11. There is qiuite a bit of debate about the headers. Most tuners will always the replace the factory with aftermarket when doing mods to the TT. Fabspeed makes a very nice header that has a good rep with tuners. Whether they perform better than stock I don't know.. They sure look nice though...:clapping: I had the stage one mods done to mine.. Tubi muffler, ECU upgrade and GT2 spark plugs and a K & N filter. The car is MUCH faster and sounds awesome. I also bought the Fabspeed exhaust tips (see pic.) I really dislike the stock tips.. As far as the intake... Fabspeed makes one but I don't see how that the engine will not be sucking hot air. Champion makes a sweet CF airbox but its about $5k and seems to be eye candy if anything... Hope this helps...
  12. JFP, Isn't the Audi coolant the same thing but is even cheaper?
  13. The Audi coolant is compatible with Porsche and MUCH cheaper.. Do a search here and you will find the details ( Ithink it's called G4.) DO NOT mix Prestone or other coolant. It can gel and cause all kinds of problems.
  14. Oh my... She blowed up real good. :cursing: Ahhh the old "could this happen again" question... Can't really aswer that.... You can certainly do a search here. LN engineering has some preventative measures you can take on your next engine. Regarding a 3.4 or 3.6 conversion here is the man to ask. (Todd)..... http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?/user/4060-tholyoak/ Todd I hope you don't mind but you do have exstensive knowledge in this area... Good luck Byron and I'm sorry to hear what happened..
  15. Look at Victors website, They have a fitment link. It will telll you wether they will fit without spacers
  16. Wow that's really cool... And the price is not bad either....
  17. Those tricky Germans.....:clapping:
  18. Sabine is a better driver than most guys period...:clapping:
  19. The Sport Chrono makes a huge difference on the Carrera S. I had on my 06 and it's like a different car. (I now have it on my Turbo and it really does make it a beast as well. Like the Rock88 says) Even though there is no boost to control on the 997 S Carrera it changes the fuel mapping and makes the throttle response much better and is a lot more fun to drive. And with the PSE it sounds sweet! Get the Sport Chrono and get the PSE. Lots of cars out there with both. Good luck!
  20. Unless he changed out the DME and the other required electronics and hardware the car will never run properly. The power loss you are feeling is the lack of the "Vario Cam Plus" functioning, It will not function without the proper mods and revisons. Even here in the States very few tuners will do a swap. It's not worth the time and cost to them.. Sounds like you got a raw deal..
  21. Is it possible that Jijioz has a 2001 996 (maybe a 2000 build) and therefore the 2003 replacement engine would not need a ne w DME etc? I stil don't believe they did 3.4 / 3.6 swap. Especially in Lebanon. It's not that easy to do ....
