  1. That's a beauty and you got all the right options... I envy your Autohbahn story.. Enjoy! :drive:
  2. Awesome.. I'm sure you'll be very happy! :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:
  3. Agreed .. DO NOT USE THOSE CROOKS! Jake is good and I have a reco for you in Orange County that does great work as well. PM me if your interested.. Stay away from Fabian Roock as well
  4. Lower miles is usually better. Just because of wear and tear on the general condition of the car. With the 996 the most important thing is that is has been serviced properly and driven regularly. Gargage queen syndrome not a good thing for the 996 engine. If I was to buy another 996 I would get the IMS upgrade. Good insurance. Good luck with whatever you decide.. Take your time there are A LOT of 996's out there..
  5. The Hankooks are good. Here another option to look into.. I just put a set of Bridgestone RE-11's on my Turbo and I love them. Quiet on the freeway and they stick really well. They are a bit more money than the Hankooks but a lot less than the pilots. They look cool as well. You can read reviews on them on Tire Rack. Hope this helps
  6. Sounds like it could be your ignition switch. I haven't heard of this being an issue in the 997's but a very common problem in the 996 and older Boxster. When they go bad they start to do all kinds of strange things. I have never seen the warning message you are getting but it (the switch) could be the culprit. I would also get your mechanic or dealer to check for fault codes with a Durametric or PIWIS tester. Have you tried your spare key to see if the result is the same? Unlikely but worth a try.. :welcome:
  7. That hurts just to watch......:cursing:
  8. What do you mean by "later model"? A 2000? 2003? 2006? 2009? All different cars... You can't say "they have the same problems" as the 99 Carrera because they don't.
  9. I'm assuming you have already purchased the car? Make sure you have the tool kit and the tow hook. There should also be a small DC operated air compressor in the trunk. Make sure you get both keys and ALL the manuals. If it's a CPO car make sure you get some documentation regarding that.. Get all service records. I'm also assuming that you got a CarFax. Gotta have that.. Do a final inspection of the car to make sure that you have looked for any small dents, scratches, curb rash on wheels etc.. before you sign all th papers and drive it off the lot. Good luck and congrats an an awesome car! :clapping:
  10. I too had a 996 fail from intermix. I was very angry and dissapointed. But that certainly didn't stop me from getting another Porsche. I had a 2006 Carrera S and recently traded it in for a 2007 Turbo. The Turbo is the most amazing car I have ever had. I agree that Porsche has never come clean with what they knew was a design flaw. They probably never will. That being said I have had older BMW's and Mercedes that almost bankrupted me. Not engine failures but almost everything else.. To BM996.. I will never have any German sports car without a warranty. It's too painful... The Turbo and the GT3 share the same bottom end and are a totally different engine than the M96 (and relatively bullet proof.) Maybe that's (the Turbo or a GT3) somthing to consider for your next Porsche :clapping:
  11. So you sold it becasue you thought it was going to blow up? I don't know where you got your "80 to 90 percent will experience failures" but that is total rubbish. It's true that there are some design weaknesses on the M96 engine. MOST owners never have an issue and driver their cars well into the 100,000 mile range. These are usually the people who drive their cars frequently and do more frequent oil changes. For you not to consider another Porsche because of "what you've heard" is rather bizzare. Especially since Porsche has addressed those problems (IMS) in the 2006 to 2008 models and eliminated the IMS design completely in the DFI engines in 2009 + years. And Posrche has just won best build quality and relaibility awards. I agree with getting a warranty on any high end German car. Just good insurance. I don't think your going to find a lot of sympathy here with irrational data like that. I hope you change your mind and get into a 997. Look at 2006 onwards.
  12. Look at more cars. There are so many 996's out there. If you're patient you will find exactly what you want. Make sure you get the car inspected by a dealer or independent before any purchase. It's the best money you will ever spend. If you can find a car with a reman Porsche engine that is a plus. You can do a search here on what to look for when shopping for a 996. it ha been covered many times. Good luck!
  13. Very Nice, :clapping: I love the wheels and I love white 911's!
  14. Don't know about that JH. All I know is that when you go to order an aftermarket exhaust for the Turbo the "race" version is stated as for "off road use only". The "race" version either has 100 cell cats or no cats at all. There are too many of these exhausts out there for them not to pass smog. No one wants to deal with that. I found out though that you do have to reprogram the flash to raise the limits on the 02 sensors. If you don't do this you get a CEL...
  15. Thank you! :notworthy:
  16. Disconnect the Positive and negative terminals? or just the negative? These 200 cell cats will pass. If they don't they guy I bought them from will buy them back from me. 100 cell cats will not pass CA smog. Fabspeed, Tubi and Techart 200 cell cat exhausts will pass. If they wouldn't pass smog they would have to put a warning of "Track use only". Also if they wouldn't pass they would not ship to California. If for some reason I have a problem I'll just put the stock exhaust back on... Thanks for the info Loren
  17. Nobody?
  18. Glad you got it sorted..:clapping:
  19. Congrats on the new car..!!:clapping: :welcome:
  20. Okay Turbo people... I'm new at this so here is a question. I just added a new exhaust with 200 cell cats to my 997 Turbo. Previously the ECU was upgraded with only GT2 plugs and a BMC filter. Should the ECU get a new map for the addition of the exhaust and cats? Neccessary? Not neccessary? Any input would be appreciated Thanks! :renntech:
  21. Beautiful car...:clapping:
  22. Rick, yes I can speak decent Tagalog. I spent many years for business in Manilla. I love it there. I can't imagine driving a Porsche there though... I'm sure you k now of some fun places to drive though. I agree with the Pad idea. If you want a cosmetic change you could always paint your calipers... Good luck!
  23. Word of advice on the sound system.. Forget playing compressed files on it. They will sound worse than awful. I have a Turbo now with the same system. As long as I play orginal CD's it sounds okay. As far as the problem getting the car in first....That is a Porsche thing. Select 2nd and then go to 1st and you wont have a problem. And as far as bogging in 2nd that is not normal and it sounds like you may have an issue there.
  24. I suggest you go drive both cars. I peronally am waiting for another year or so to acquire a 2010 GT3. The prices should be down to where the 07's are today. You can get an 07 997GT3 in the high $70k's. If you can afford that go for the 997! If not drive the 997 S and the 996 GT3 and see what you think.. The GT3 engine shares the same basic engine block as the Turbo and is much less prone to problems seen in the pre 2009 Carrera engines (intermediate shaft.) There is nothing like the sound and handling of the GT3. If you lived in California I would say get the GT3. But since you want to drive it in the snow I'm not so sure... I have a freind that drives cross country in his GT3.. So I guess it depends on you.. Let us know how you progress
