  1. I think it depends on the dealer.. I bought my Turbo from an independent dealer but this dealer has a very good relationship with my official Porsche dealer. I got an additional 2 year / 100k CPO and the dealer waived the inspection charge. The warranty cost me $3,400.. It covers everything except wear items (brakes, clutch etc.) and fluids. I'm not so worried about engine failure but I have already had a work on the PCM and replaced the clutch accumulator.. Just the PCM probably was as much as the warranty.. It is true they do have to take title of the car but only on their books.. They have to add your car to their inventory so when Porsche approves the warranty they see it in the dealers stock.. They don't take title in reality..... It really depends on your releationship with your dealer... Good luck..
  2. Jpflip... Actually that's part of the differential for the front wheel drive. I hope you were joking  .....
  3. Triyountster, Your issue is probably an ignition switch. Very common to the 996 and early Boxsters. A very inexpensive fix. There are many DIY's here on the replacement if you do a search..
  4. Golden... Those are wise words indeed. :clapping: I'm going karting on the 27th. First hours in the begginer kart then instruction in the shifter karts for the second half of the day. Can't wait... Take care...
  5. Geoff. Thanks for the information! Sounds great. I will do that. I have done only limited karting and never with an instructor. Thanks again!
  6. Thanks for the advice Mike and Paul.. I'm actually looking into registering for a DE now. Also looking into the Skip Barber performance driving school at Laguna Seca. And Paul.. I won't break my car. I realize my limitations.. All the best..
  7. I went for a drive with my friends in the Los Angeles mountains over the weekend. I have a buddy with a Lotus who is a really good driver. He goes on these drives all the time and invited me along with a coupe of other friends. So it was me wiith the Turbo, a Lotus, my friend with an 07 Carrera 4S and another guy with a Dodge Viper. Wow what an experience. Once you get out of the city it's wide open twisty mountain roads. You can go as fast as you like safely (which we did.) It's about three 15 mile stints to get to the top of the montain which is about 5000ft altitude. My friend in the Lotus was uncatchable. I was soon to realize my limitations as a driver. It's very intense and requires your complete concentration. I got in a corner way too hot and realized I needed to back off to a pace that was within my skill level. The Turbo is an amazing car. I have never driven that fast for that long. Very exhausting. We met another guy in an 07 Turbo at a rest point. He had the big turbos and intercoolers and lots of other mods. His car was so fast it was scary. And he drove it at the limit.. He tracks it and it was really beat up. He had a passenger and I felt sorry for that guy! Must be nice to be able to afford a Turbo to beat up! My buddy with the 4S and I thought it was kind of sad to see a car like that treated like a "beater." We also ran into about 6 guys with Ferrari's.. All different years and models. Very cool... We had lunch at the top then it was time to return down the mountain.... Again at light speed.... Quite an experience. When I got home I was exhausted.. I'm going with the same group of guys to go race Go Karts at Willow Springs in a week or so. . My friend with the Lotus tells me it's the best and cheapest learning tool when it comes to performance driving. Should be fun.. I realize that I really have no performance driving skills at all. Definitely going to do some formal schooling as well. My car deserves better...
  8. Had the same issue with my first 996 a few years back... Took it to the dealer and they told me I may be looking at a new engine.:cursing: Wasn't going for that...... Luckily I went on this site and someone with the same issue had posted a sound clip. Same sound as mine. His diagnosis? A loose spark plug. Sure enough one of my plugs was loose. Problem solved.... Glad you got it fixed! :renntech:
  9. I start mine up and drive,. But llike others said I don't get on it until it's at normal operating temp. I agree that warming the car up to temp at idle is probably just a waste of time and fuel. Just my two cents..
  10. Just added another new mod for the Turbo. I installed the ACENCY plenum and the throttle body off the Cayenne Turbo. It about 2mm bigger than the stock TB. Wow! Along with the other mods (flash, exhaust, BMC filter and GT2 plugs) the car is really sick now. Turbos spool faster and acceleration in 2nd gear is a thrill ride. :clapping: I can't tell you how much I love this car.... Truly an awesome sports car.... Going to have the car dyno'd soon. Should be putting out about 560 hp now.. sweet.... Off to Angeles Crest tomorrow with my buddies (Porsches, Audis, Lotus, sport bikes) to put it through the paces and let the computer re-learn..
  11. They look beautiful.. Very nice choice!:clapping:
  12. Just change the oil frequenly and drive the hell out of it....
  13. I'm sorry to hear about your problem. It's too bad that some Porsche dealers treat their customers so badly. I would contact Porsche directly and tell them your story. Make sure to include all details such as where you parked the car etc. Pictures and service history will also help. The more details the better. Be patient but persistant.. I'm not sure what number you call in Spain.. I'm sure your dealer can give it to you or it may be in your manual. Please keep us updated. Good luck!
  14. Amazing car.. Absolutely beautiful. Love the color combo.. And it's sooooooo clean. Awesome...:clapping:
  15. Hi there, what company does Dan Mermelstein work for?? any contact info? Thanks Vivid Racing..
  16. You were fortunate.. You were probably the last happy customers.. That guy is lucky he is still walking this Earth...
  17. Thanks Maurice.. They are even cheaper now....
  18. CabC2, Thanks for that.. I appreciate it and I'm really glad you are happy with your car...:clapping:
  19. Road session.. So how much did you have to pay out of pocket?
  20. NO NO NO NO.:cursing: Stay as far away as you can from Fabian Roock! He method is flawed and you will never be happy with the car. THE VARIOCAM WILL NEVER WORK PROPERLY. His workmanship is shoddy and he's liar. DO NOT HAVE HIM TOUCH YOUR CAR! He is a smooth talker and will act like he is a big player, He has a terrible reputation. Call LN engineering and mention Fabians name and see what kind of reaction you get. Please do not call him. You will sorely regret it (ask me how I know...)
  21. I guess I was never under the impression that a used German performance car (of any make) was a good investment. You buy them because you love them.. Not because they make sense financially. Like any used german performance car a warranty is always a good idea. I had a 996 blow up on me (no warranty).. I was mad but it didn't stop me from buying another one (with a warranty.) By the way your car is 12 years old.. Just sayin...
  22. Whatever you decide JE please post pictures when it's done!
  23. Vivid Racing also sells a Brembo 2 piece floating steel slotted rotor kit for the PCCB Porsche cars. You replace the rotors and pads and use the existing calipers. They are pricey but not near what the Porsche ceramics cost. Here is the link for your car. If you deal with Vivid ask for Dan Malmerstein. He's very helpful.. Oops.. I just noticed that your car is a 2004.. They still may have a fittment for you.. http://www.vividraci...rs-p-63142.html
  24. Awesome... Please post pictures when you get that beast! :clapping:
