  1. David, I guess we have to assume that if he wants to race he knows what he's getting himself into... And better have very deep pockets! Please post some pictures of your new race car. We would all love to see that..!
  2. I have a rather strange issue with my Turbo. The car will not get to full boost. I get about 2/3 bar and I hear a strange "rattle" like litttle rocks in a can) and the boost backs off. On the freeway yesterday I was really trying to analyse the noise. Yesterday it sounded more like a "hissing" sound. Like a vacuum leak. I ran the car for error codes and there were none. It I have checked all of the connections visible in the engine bay. The "Y" pipe connections and the vacuum hoses on the plenum. Everything seems in order. I have a friend that has owned a lot of turbocharged cars and he said it could be that the car is not getting enough fuel (running lean) and that "rattle" sound is the result. He said I may have clogged injectors and to change my fuel filter. I thought this unlikely. My tech (who makes house calls with tools God Bless him) is coming over this weekend to take a look. On the phone he suggested that it might be an intercooler hose that has come loose. Has anyone had a similar experience with their Turbo? Thanks ! Oh by the way the car has the GIAC flash, Larger plenum and throttle body, GT2 spark plugs and a Techart exhaust....
  3. I think you need to re-read the LN website concerning the late 05 through 08 IMS units; the late 05 and on cars (or factory replacement engines) all carry an oversized rear bearing that cannot physically fit through the opening in the assembled engines: " If the engine was made for MY06 or later, it will have the late revision, larger IMS bearing which is not serviceable." "The last option, our IMS Upgrade, requires engine disassembly. The intermediate shaft must be sent in to us to be upgraded to our triple-bearing upgrade. A separate ceramic hybrid bearing upgrade is available for the late-style MY06-08 M97 IMS as well."' JFP, Thanks for the great info..
  4. JFP, The member (Michelin) didn't state what year his car was.. If it is an 06 or newer why would he have to upgrade the IMS? Didn't Porsche already do that (upgrade the IMS) in the 06 through 09 models?
  5. You don't need to change the gear oil until 80,000 to 100,000 milies. Just make sure your flywheel is still in good shape and replace the release bearing as well. Stay with the OEM cklutch kit. You didn't say how many miles you have on your car so this is general info..
  6. Go for the CPO car.. You'll be glad you did.. Good luck!
  7. Thank you for th ereply. Yes there is white smoke and quite a lot of it but only on occassion not all the time usually when I havent started it for 5 odd days. The car is parked in the open in a driveway inside the property on a slight forward angle. I notice more smoke in the summer months when idle for a while but less in winter and when I start it up more regular. I did mention that to the local P centre when under warranty but was told it was a common effent and not to worry about it. Hmmmmmmm. Of course it is a Tiptronic. Will do the hand test and see what avails. Will let you know. Thanks Hello Phillip, well I did the test, started car, no smoke, took of oil cap and put my hand over it. There is a little suction but not a lot. Noticed the poor engine ratlle as the air was being sucked in but guess thats normal. So I assume a little suction and no smoke at the moment is ok? That is a good sign.. You should stilll have your tech check the AOS. I hope you get things sorted so you can enjoy the car..

  9. It could be a bad AOS (air/oil seperator.) Have you noticed any white smoke at start up? The AOS is not an expensive part but it is a difficult job on a 996. Unfortunetly it's on the back of the engine. One way to check if it's bad is to start the car and remove the oil cap. Put your hand over the opening of the oil filler tube and see if there is a lot of suction. If there is it may be a bad AOS. The AOS is part of the emissions system and is a common failure in M96 engines. I'm sorry to hear that you have had so many issues with your car. I have had 4 P cars. One was a nightmare and the others have been trouble free. Hopefully some others here will chime in with their opinions on your issue...
  10. Unfortunetly Porsche windshields are pretty weak.. I have had 4 P cars now and all the windshields have been pitted. Way more than other cars I have owned. I bought a Carrera with 14k miles and the windshield was already pitted. When the time comes to replace the one in my Turbo I think i'm going to use this product.. http://www.clearplex.com/ Why Porsche uses such soft glass is a mystery.. Well maybe not.. Profit margins and all that stuff....
  11. Early September I'm told. Not trading my c2s, may upgrade that to a 997-2 c4s cab instead something I could whip around during winter months? Tekky Sweet! I want to add a GT3 to my driveway.. Hopefully at the end of the year. Love my Turbo but miss the normally aspirated engine... Both are awesome.. Again congrats on the new car!!.. :clapping:
  12. Tekky.. Sorry.. Early Monday and I can't see too well.. That's going to be an amazing car. Are you trading in your current 997? When are you scheduled to take delivery with a July build?
  13. Awesome car.. You can go to your dealer and they can probably hook you up with some Porsche DE events. If you have the cash go to the Porsche driving school . If not find a driving school nearby where you live and go there. Go-karting helps as well. I'm glad to hear you want to track the car.. That's what it was meant for... Not be a garage queen.. Congrats! They have an I dentical 2007 car at my dealer. Brand new for $117,000. Thought that was a pretty good price for a dealer.... Enjoy that beauty and good luck with track ambitions.. :drive:
  14. I didn't see the sport Chrono option.. Is that standard? All the best, Phillip
  15. Congrats on the new car Tekky! I would get the factory short shifter for sure. I have it in my Turbo and love it.. That car is going to be beautiful... Now you have that painful wait...

Francois, It's not possible to get that kind of gain from a chip alone. (ask me how I know.) That's about 170 hp over stock. To get 650 your going to have to do some mods to your Turbos, Intercoolers etc.. Then of course you can get 725 to 750 if you want.. As you know I have done the GIAC flash, GT2 plugs, Techart exhaust, BMC filter and lately the Cayenne Turbo throttle body. I haven't dyno'd the car but I would say it's putting out between 550 and 575. A good flash will transform your car though. The first time you drive it you will laugh. (in a good way.) Your car will run better and stronger becuase you run 100 octane. All we have is the 93 crap.. Hope you are well. The Mini sounds cool..
  17. I get over 20 mpg on the Freeway and about 8-10 mpg around town. I drive the heck out of it so mileage reflects my right foot  All "go fast" buttons on all the time. Plus I have a larger throttle body which doesn't help the mileage either.. I'm sure glad I can afford gas....:clapping:
  18. Awesome ..Thanks for that breakdown!
  19. I have given up on them (Vivid) as well.. The Porsche community is rather tight. I don't understand how they think they can run a business like that. Try Evoms or TPC. Much better to deal with.. Pricey but you get what you pay for..
  20. She sounds special...:clapping:
  21. Just a question about you 300,000 mile post. Where do you live? You must drive great distances, Am I correct? What major items have you had to replace in those 300,000.. Same tranny? Shocks? Clutch replacement? Congrats on such a milestone..

    All the best.. Phillip

  22. I'm not a Cayenne owner but I would be very hesitant to buy an 04 or 05 model. From what I have read here they have a lot of issues that will burn a hole in your wallet. If you can go for 06 or newer.... Good luck and be patient..
  23. Cant go wrong with a Carrera 5 spoke.. I had the super lights on my 996 and loved them...Would look great on your Boxster...
  24. That is soooo awesome.. I'm going to drive mine even more now...:clapping:
