  1. Go for the coupe.. I'm not a convertible type so I'm partial. I have a 997 2007 TT. I have the Tech-Art Exhaust, GIAC chip and a boost controller. The car has about 550 HP now. More on good gas. The Turbo S is awesome as well. But it's PDK only if you're akay with that. I agree about the "investment" part. These cars don't hold up too well. My car has the Carbon fiber interior options, Ceramic brakes (which I love.) and a whole bunch of other options. The car was $150,000 new. I bought it with 38k miles for $75,000. I consider that a pretty good deal. If you don't care about money get what your gut tells you. But don't expect it to be an "investment".. I love my car and you will love whatever you decide to get. Good luck!:clapping:
  2. Yes the replacement motor would have the updated IMS bearing. Depending on your budget you may want to look at the 06's as well. There are a lot of 997's out there. Don't fall for the first pretty face you see. If you have the time you should be able to find a car with the right color combinations and options that you want. Good luck!
  3. I agree, I have never heard of a core charge like that. Unless Porsche has changed there polocies..
  4. Hopefully you just have a failed oil cooler. I had a fatal intermix in one of my 996's and there was "pancake batter" in the coolant resevoir and well as the crankcase. It was ugly. I have heard of many sitautions where there was oil only in the coolant and it turned out to be a failed oil cooler. Good luck..!
  5. STAY AWAY FROM :censored: ROOCK! You will be so sorry if you let him touch your car. He uses "used Parts" has questionable techs, terrible workmanship and lies, lies , lies. He is your worst nightmare. Please do not give that Grifter your money.:censored: Call L & N Engineering and ask them about Roock.. They will not even do business with him.. Trust me on this one. P.M me and I can guide you to some good shops. Sharkwerks isn't too far from you are they? There are a lot of people out there who are honest and do good work. ROOCK fails miserably on both accounts.. You have been warned...
  6. The only thing I will keep for 15 years are my dogs (hopefully) and my woman...
  7. Awesome. Got to see Patrick and Jorg at Long Beach last year. That was cool.. Patrick should have won that race but.....:cursing: I have a lot of Lizard stuff. Cool pic Paul.. I saw that one on their website.. :clapping:
  8. Only 7 hp? That is really dissapointing..
  9. I guess my 997 Turbo is just a piece of crap then. I wasn't aware that I missed out on the "last good Porsche ever made". Since I drive my car (hard) every day (and have never had a problem with it) I thought it was a great car. Apparently not. Thanks for the clarity..
  10. I guess it just depends on what you want. The 996 turbo is an awesome car with plenty of abilty to add gobs of HP if you want. But like you said the interior is what you have now so that wouldn't be much of a change. The 997 4S is also a beautiful car. You won't be able to add hp like the turbo but the engine is sweet and the interior (i think) is far better than the 996. The handling is amazing. I had a 2006 Carrera S and loved it. Now I have a 2007 Turbo and love it even more. If it were me I'd go for the 4S. Oh yeah and get a warranty.....Even thought the 06 has the updated IMS bearing a warranty is a must. Also the Turbo dry sump engine is a completely different engine than in the 996 or 997. Relatively bullet proof. Good luck with whatever you decide.
  11. You might want to consider rebuilding instead. A lot more people are doing this with the M96 engines and upgrading parts during the process (IMS bearing.) Member Dharn55 rebuilt his motor after a cracked head. Member Logray just rebuilt his as well. Neither fellow had any previous experience rebuilding an engine. Do a search here and you will find a lot of info. I feel your pain. I lost a motor to intermix on a 2000 996 years back. There are more options now than then. You other choice would be a "reman" engine from Porsche (about 25k installed.) or buy one from a wreck (aka Porsche Dismantlers.) Cost varies here. 3.6's are pretty easy to source. I believe you could rebuild it your self for about $5k to $7k. Or you could buy one from people who rebuild them. Not sure of cost there. I hope this helps and I'm sure others will chime in and give you some options..
  12. Are you still under warranty?
  13. A simple "yes" to the 997 shifter. Go drive on and see if you like it.
  14. Looks awesome. Nice job..:clapping: Don't feel bad. My friend had his painted 3 times before he was happy. Glad you finally got it sorted..
  15. Awesome job.. I admire you tackling what most of wouldn't. Enjoy your car and I'm glad I could be of help!:clapping: PhillipJ
  16. I have a the same problem. I would love to get my holes plugged but that mean a re spray and a re application of the 3m bra. I'm not going to p*** away money like that. I"ve got a cool "Flying Lizard racing" plate for the front. Definitely an HP gain..
  17. Agreed pass... Be patient until you can afford a newer one..
  18. That is not normal. I have never had an issue with any of my gear boxes.. I would go to the dealer .. Have they let you drive another car to see if you have the same feeling? Your dealer sounds like an idiot. If they don't give you satisfaction I would go direct to Porsche, There is no way a Porsche 6 speed manual box has to be "massaged" or "stroked around" into gear. I fly through the gears in my car. Never an issue.
  19. Oh that is nasty... Have you resolved your shifting issues? I would suggest a Porsche short shift kit if you are still unhappy.. I have one on my Turbo and I love it.. Phillip
  20. I have the 3M bra on my black 07 Turbo. The whole bumper and the fenders and hood. It was done at the factory. The haze is really only noticable on the hood. I don't like the way it looks but it sure has saved my paint. You might want to think about doing just the bumper to protect that new paint. The bra is not noticable on the bumper.. Good luck and looking forward to pictures! Phillip
  21. I know that my friend paid $600 just to have his new bumper painted. I think that was a deal too. I would say you should be able to get it done for less than $1000. $1300 is a bit steep. And depending on the color of your car color match can be a PITA. Make sure whoever does the work will guarantee the color match. Metallics can be especially difficult. And get the 3M clear bra after the paint is dry. It is a bit pricey but will prevent you from having to paint it again  Good luck!
  22. Is your shop in Santa Barbara?
