  1. Awesome comments. Your description of the air cooled Porsches is outstanding! I never got to own an air cooled P car. But when I was younger all of my friends had 911 Targas. One friend got to have his dad's (first production year) turbo four speed 911 on the weekends. I got to drive that car and it was amazing. I love my water cooled P cars as well. I can"t wait to drive the 991 and see what Porsche has created. My next purchase will be the next gen turbo. Can't wait for that! :jump:
  2. Oh my.. I hope you are able to accomplish this.. I'm suprised that no one has done this as well. A 600hp Boxster! :jump: My 997 Turbo has about 550hp but like you said it's a heavy car. I think it really needs 700hp (which it will have after the warranty is up.) That's a really good price you got on that engine.. Please keep us posted about your progress. I wish I could be more help but this is way out of my league.. Phillip
  3. Interesting you say that a "popped" engine lid made your battery go dead. I have left mine open many times overnight on my 997 Turbo and never had a dead battery. Hmmmm.....
  4. Beanster and SVThorsnake, I'm so glad to hear that Porsche came through for you. Especially you Beanster. $680 is not bad.
  5. I think this has been coovered before here. Do a search and you may find your answers.
  6. Oh I see. Well you don't really have to worry about the engine gernading.. I would say the turbos and intercoolers will last WELL past 100k. Boost Hoses may need to be replaced. If your car is a manual you will eventually do your clutch and flywheel. That all depends how you drive your car.. I'm quite easy on clutches. And of course things like brakes etc.. My car has ceramic brakes. I have 50k miles on the car and my tech said my pads were barely worn. If you just keep up on the maitenance these turbos are pretty trouble free. I put about the same amount of milage that you do anually. Maybe just take that $6500 and keep it for a rainy day (car day.) I have a Tech Art exhaust, and a GIAC chip. Makes the car quite quick (or quicker).. Once my warranty is out I'm going to put on the big Turbos, intercoolers and 3 stage clutch..Still very reliable with 700+ hp.. I plan on keeping mine as well.. Maybe in four years I will buy a low mile next gen Turbo. I can't wait to see the new one in 2012... Good luck!
  7. No groceries in your trunk! Looks nice and must sound even better...
  8. Try "Easy Care" Better with Porsches than Mercury. And yes you are correct in looking for a CPO car. It's the way to go. The Carrera S has a larger engine (3.8 liter) and slightly different suspension as well as exhaust tips.. If you are looking for a Carrera make sure to get the "sport Chrono" option as well as the sport seats and the Sport exhaust. You won't really pay more for these options but they were VERY expensive when ordered new.. Only the 4S Carrera is 4 wheel drive. The base Carrera and the S are 2 wheel drive. Good luck with your search..
  9. Alex, I got an extended CPO on my 07 Turbo. I bought it from an independent Porsche dealer but he has a good relationship with my dealer. Do you have a good relationship with your dealer? I would suggest you go that route first. I already had a form of CPO when I bought the car but it was the "basic" version. My service tech at my dealer suggested that I buy the full CPO for $3,300. That would give an additional 2 years and up to 100k miles on the car. I have to say that the warranty has already paid for itself 3 times over. I had some carbon interior pieces replaced, new PCM (the CD would eject properly so they just replaced the whole unit.) Clutch actuator and a couple switches. Recently i had the carbon hadbrake replaced and there was a squeak in my clutch pedal. Turns out the squeak was coming from the bell housing. They replaced all internal parts and a new slave cylinder. If I would have had to pay for all of the little things I have done it wuld be around $14,000. So the $3,300 for the Porsche CPO was WELL worth it. Plus you get a Porsche to drive when the car is being serviced. How many miles on on your car? If it's low miles the dealer might work with you. They actually have to put your car in their inventory and act like they sold it to you. Otherwise Porsche won't allow it.. That's why you need a good realtionship with your dealer.. With the economy being why it is they might be more cooperative than usual. I hope this helps. If you do go the route of an aftermarket warranty make sure you talk to some Porsche shops and see who pays and who doesn't. "Easy Care" has a very good reputation. I had on of their warranties on my 2006 Carrera S but never had an issue with the car (so I never had to test them.) They were quick to refund me 75% of the purchse price of the warranty when I sold the car though. Good luck. I will never have a Porsche without a warranty. To me it's just good insurance...
  10. Awesome write up. Many Porsche owners with engine failure should thank you for this.
  11. Excellent... Thanks!
  12. Please stay away from MotorMeister. They are bad news....Used parts, Poor workmanship etc...Do a search here and you will get more bad reviews.
  13. Brad, I envy your fabrication skills.. Although at first I thought this was a crazy idea I hope you go ahead with it.. A Turbo Boxster?? That would be freakin awesome. Please keep us posted on your progress.
  14. A 917? That would be amazing. I think that whatever you decide to do you can't go wrong. The new turbo will be amazing.. I'm sure of that. And building a 993 air cooled monster sounds incredible! Both? :jump:
  15. Insight on interpreting your response please? i guess I stand corrected....
  16. Because you live in a warm climate you may want to try the 10-40. Your car will like it!
  17. The Turbo and the GT3 engines are rather noisy. I have a 2007 997 TT and my engine makes a lot of noise. I have found that by using a 5-40 weight oil (instead of the 0-40) greatly reduces the rattles and ticks. If you are using the 0-40 weight oil try the Castrol full synthetic 5-40 or 10-40 (both Porsche approved oils) with your next oil change. I think you will notice a big difference. If the sound is really loud and unusual you should have a tech look at it. Good luck!
  18. Also I am currently standing in the face of a rebuild myself, for low compression and lost ring seal. I might be interested in whichever engine you decide not to use as an option versus rebuilding what I've got. What? What ahppened?
  19. That Speedster is sweet..:clapping: Can you tell us more about it? Power train ect?
  20. Mystery solved. Turns out the owner put an aftermarket exhaust on the GT2. That's why it sounds soooo good... Didn't think that could be a stock sound....Even for a GT2 RS..
  21. Thanks Loren. Maybe after my warranty is up! Hopefully you'll get a chance to hear that car. It is quite impressive..
  22. Great post.. Would love to see pictures...
  23. Look under your passenger seat to make sure there is nothing rolling around down there. Noise can be very hard to detect it's true origin. I had a clunk in my first 996. I thought it was coming from the back seat. I had it for almost a year. Drove me crazy. Finally I took a really good look under the seats and there it was... A very small screwdriver under the passenger seat from the previous owner.. After that no more "clunk"..... It's worth a try... Good luck..
