  1. I just did it to and am not sure what the hub-bub is all about. As I understand it, as much as we’d all like to believe otherwise, there is a negligible performance improvement if at all. Yeah, if you’re winding it up all the time there’s a modest audible, pleasant exhaust tone, but thats about it. PK
  2. Try it, just don't go under it without jack stands. I use a $39 jack/jack stand set. works fine. PK
  3. That's the ticket! Don't know how I missed it. Thanks a ton! P.K
  4. Check engine lite...on? smooth out after it warms up? Cold starts require more fuel. Yours is probably getting to much or getting to little. Haven't a clue as to the mechanisms and/or electronics that acomplish this. PK
  5. Hello, I’d like to do 2 things with my top. 1, Disable the speed restriction for operating the top. 2, I’d like to disable the handbrake requirement (I’m just not that lame). Surely someone’s done a hack like that,. Anybody now of a thread? Or done it? (I’ve searched allover, can’t be that complicated) Thanks, PK
  6. Any auto upholstery shop worth a spit can put a window in for about $400. Nothings magic abot the 986 window. Vinyl’s vinyl, Germans a bit better if you can get it. Only real trick is that the whole fabric top has to get taken off and put back on accurately. The window itself is nothing ($19). Good luck PK
  7. Hi, Heard a lot about “Pedro’s sport exhaust” mod. Seen a few pics of others mods but searched like crazy & can’t find pedros original thread. Also, from what I’ve seen, got a few questions Regard, PK.
  8. If no one nails it with a common problem. Try the oldest trick in the book, if you’ve got it narrowed down to the basic vicinity already. Get a hose of a couple feet. Stick one end of the hose in your ear and probe around the other end likea stethoscope. PK
  9. Question: My manual shows the fill plug right on a plate on the side of trans. It seems it would be impossible to get the whole bottle up there to squeeze in the oil. If I’m right, how do you get the oil in, put a hose on it and hang somewhere above filler hole like an I.V.? I seem to recall using some sort of hand soap type pump with a hose the last time I did this. Also, manual states that the oil should be 11mm below the bottom of the fill hole. Dose it really matter? Ideas? P.S. Background: I’ve got a tired 5 speed. Someone here or there swore that switching out the gear oil with Penzoil Synchromesh can gives your transe a new lease on life. Believe me, I’m a natural corn skeptic, but if it makes my fading transe. a little more pleasurable in it’s twilight months, $18 is a gamble I can take.
  10. Maurice is spot on. Those are just plain old flexible bumpers (poly urethane I think) , cinch to repair. Don't let anybody b.s. you. Ive repaired one of my mine way back. Recently had my current boxter repaired (perfectly fine) ...even with a tear. PK
  11. Good, Grinding is never good. You caught it before it failed completey, lost water, over heated etc, etc, Happy motoring! PK.
  12. Hey PK, the PSE "porsche sports exhaust" is the OEM Porsche Tequipment sport exhaust system, that uses a valve/switch, so you can set the flaps open to the full sport mode, or the quieter/more restrictive regular mode. I don't think this compromises ca emissions, as it is a factory option. The muffler modifications, make the sound more agressive,...Most are louder, some louder than others. As far as power increase goes for these after market systems, some lose power, some don't really change it much, and a few out there do increase Hp. Hope this helps... - C Thanks, Do you think these after market jobs go back to stock decibels when the cut out is closed? Thanks PK
  13. That’s kina significant, this was with a hack? Wonder how it's done. I like the idea of a cut out so you don't always have to bum the neighbors out. Wonder how the PSE stacks up against it? Good work’ PK
  14. I heard the real problem is that your a Barry Manilow fan...no beuno with you baritone. P.K
  15. A really dumb thing I dreamt up to hunt down leaks it to sort of line you cockpit with news paper (position your paper where you think its leaking). Tape it on with masking tape and wait for rain. Catch it before it has a chance to dry out and your news paper should show wet streaks where water is running in. Also, a problem I've had that reeks havoc is a drain line from the bottom of the wells under your top transmission assems. The clam shell is not really designed to keep water out, those drains plug up and overflow into cockpit. 2 cents PK
  16. Thanks todd, No messing around with the exhaust and the like? I hope 2” does it. Forget if you've put one of these things in yourself. Heard that you want replace the plugs (at min on the sc side before you but the SC...no brainer). Also herd though, that you should avoid platinum plugs with the sc. If that's up your alley & true, what is a long lasting plug appropriate for sc application. Thanx, PK
  17. That manuals a dandy... Why not? if the motor will go up that far... PK
  18. Ya, I just need to lower it enough to wiggle a tube in. Supposed to go in without droping the engine so I assume I won't have to go down to far. I've heard it's the trick. PK
  19. Sergio, Jack stands and a floor jack is all I ever needed. The engine removal section of the manual would have you build this contraption. Than, remove the muffler, power steering, bumper, cables, hose, et al. After 23 pages of that, The last page gets to the heart of things, the main bolts. Unscrew 4 “front engine carrier” nuts and, (appears to be) the same with 4 “transmission support” nuts. Gona guess I can skip the first 23 pages, (removal contraption and all the dissambly) and do the 8 or so nuts in the previous paragraph: Loosen the trans bolts, remove the engine bolts, & lower the floor jack a bit & Undo anything that starts to stretch. With your knowledge, does this sound like a simple game plan that will work? The manual also states (in relation to the transmission bolts) that removing the “multi tooth nut” destroys the mount. What’s up with that!? P.K.
  20. Hello, How do I temporarily drop my engine a few inches. I’ve got a TPC super charger that’s got one pipe from the “below board” sc up to the top deck. TPC claims 100% bolt in. Everyone I met spent hours trying to fit the pipe in ( I did and gave up). A knowledgeable guy said “just drop the engine a few, no prob”. Makes sense to me, but how? I’ve yanked and dropped lots of engines, can’t imagine this one is any big trick but the factory manual is so arcane. I stopped reading after the 4th page of describing some crazed, complicated contraption your supposed build to remove the engine. Again, I only need to lower it a few inches. Any body no a DIY thread or wannna make one make on with som practical directions? Thanks a lot, P.K
  21. Hi, Do these mods give you any hp advantage? Or just sound. Does it require removing the exhaust system? Also, is “Porsche Sport Exhaust” a product, company, option, etc? Comprmise Ca. emmisions? Thanks. PK
  22. Lloyd: The reason there is a heated rear switch (in early cars with plastic windows) that even illuminates is because the switch (and the associated harness and plug that is shown in the photograph by Tool Pants) was provided for the factory Hard Top that could be fitted on the car. Regards, Maurice. Hey Maurice, Never got a chance to thank you for holding my hand staight through my top sychronizing woes. What friggn' delight to use now! THANKS!!! Peter
  23. Not from me, been curiouse myself PK
  24. I'll tell if you do. There is a plug socket under a little hatch on the top of the "b" pillar right behind your left shoulder (U.S.), Couldn’t figure what it was there for at first but... Your Turn, where did you get a glass replacement? Did you keep your original canvas? D.I.Y job (I’m real handy)? How much? Thanks P.K
  25. Try not to drive it, get to a garage and have someone pinpoint the problem. Could be minor, but worse case scenario your making it much worse the more you drive it. PK
