  1. Some Cayennes are fitted with two batteries, main battery under left seat and starting battery located in spare wheel area. Be sure to test both batteries.
  2. The 986 mount had been updated to a 987 part number. I wouldn't muck around with some home made mount but install the factory unit. The mount is easy to swap out. You can inspect the mount while it is still in the vehicle. Look for cracks, separation of the rubber to housing or for the mount to shift out of the main housing.
  3. Around here only Canadian Tire can do out of country inspections.
  4. The cornering bulb is a H3 if that helps anybody.
  5. The production date is on the information decal located on the drivers door or door post area.
  6. I'm as old as dirt but I used to be 25.
  7. Just an off chance but check the brake light switch/lights.
  8. This I didn't know. I'm glad they have made improvements over the 2004-2006 models that I have worked on. Thanks for the information.
  9. It could be that you have air in the system still. It sounds like the brake booster is ok. Sorry but I have no specs for the pushrod length. I've always adjusted it so there is approx. 1-2mm free play. You are correct in thinking that if the master cylinder can't return fully it will not uncover the internal transfer ports and you not will able to properly bleed the system.
  10. It's hard to say without hearing the noise but it could be intake noise form the K&N filters. No check engine light or anything look out of place in the engine compartment?
  11. Sorry I've misread the original post. I know that in the Cayenne/Touareg it can take over 20 km's to adapt.
  12. Item 17 is the adjuster, it has flats on it to fit a open end wrench and you wind it counter clockwise.
  13. I thought that it was required that the owner tells the TPMS that the spare has been put in use. It needs to know any changes for wheel location I.D.
  14. You adjust the pushrod for free play so the brakes are not engaged when the brake pedal is at it's upper point not to correct a sinking pedal. Loren makes a good point- check the brake booster for leakage or contamination.
  15. The switch gear is part of the frame work that holds the air bag but it is a separate part from the air bag unit.
  16. If you have no emission testing in your area then you could disable the secondary air pump although I don't have any information on the subject. Try and contact 928International as they know these vehicles inside and out.
  17. You will need to have the systems checked for codes, without them it will all be just guessing. You can have a code in the system without triggering a check engine light. It's also not recommended to run the fuel tank level so low as it's believed that it shortens fuel pump life from poor cooling and also save the embarrassment of running out of fuel. The calculated fuel remaining doesn't take in effect of terrain and such and could leave to stranded.
  18. There is nothing between the bushings in the housing but in some Bosch Dist there is a radial seal on the upper end of the housing.
  19. Check the dist. shaft for wear also as this can cause oil to migrate into the housing.
  20. Sorry but you need the Porsche tool or Durametric software to reset the light.
  21. I'm rubbish at most of this computer stuff so I hope I did the attachment correctly. If you can't see it then I can PM it.
  22. Can you please post links or provide details on this information. A friend just brought his 996 into Canada last week and had no problems at all.
  23. Chances are you have a failed coil pack or two. It's recommended to replace all the coil packs and spark plugs with the updated units. If the check engine light is flashing do not operate the vehicle. Clear all codes after you've corrected the problems and monitor for any returning faults. Please include vehicle year, engine size and world market in your posts. Click on the link near the top of each page "Porsche Parts at Dealer Cost" for an excellent parts/knowledgeable staff resource.
  24. There will always be slight radial movement in all the idlers/tensioner pulley. Try and put a load on them while turning at the same time to feel any roughness. The water pump should have no play in the brng assembly and should be free of noise. Sorry I have no diagram at hand but it is very straight foreword if you take a close look at the belt system.
