  1. Inspect the wiring harness for damage.
  2. How many of those 60K miles were on the track??
  3. I think it's normal. The odd backfire could be caused from the secondary voltage leaking and causing a misfire. If you purchase the vehicle and it has the black plastic shields installed on the dist. caps, remove the shields and inspect the cap carefully for carbon tracking and install the dist. housing vent kit if not already done so.
  4. Sorry. I meant to say "without the engine running or at temp". I'll edit and correct my post.
  5. The running clearance of the park brake shoes should be adjusted to spec before the cables are adjusted. The noise was probably caused from the shoes being thrust against their stop anchor as they are not designed to be applied with the vehicle in motion.
  6. It's stalling due to the fuel mixture going lean. You have a vacuum leak some where and one of the most common causes is the line going to the fuel pressure regulator. When the air filter is serviced the vacuum line often gets knocked off. There is also a black plastic valve connected to the oil tank fill neck which is part of the PCV system and has a vacuum line going to it. The line gets damaged or the valve itself fails and can cause the same fault. There is no way to accurately check the oil level without the engine running or at temperature.
  7. I have installed that very kit before but never to the xenon lights.
  8. Sure it's possible but unlikely. It sounds like he a faster driver then you and likely knows the track very well. What's the point of all this... bragging rights?
  9. Porsche will only repair an issue for free if it's under a recall not a TSB. Even some recalls will be time dependent. Sorry I can't help with your problem but suggest you have the vehicle scanned for code which might point to a micro switch fault in the gate latch assembly.
  10. Have you used this key successfully to unlock the doors in the past? I can only guess it's the wrong key or the lock tumblers have seized from lack of use. Try freeing them up with some WD-40 or something.
  11. Does the engine crank over fast enough or just has an extended crank time? No other drivability problems or check engine light, past problems or after market parts? If you're concerned about the fuel pump have it tested for residual pressure, operating pressure and volume.
  12. Your only option that I will recommend is a trip to the dealer. The manual describes how to release the shifter to select neutral and have it towed. The Dealer scan tool can select and clear the control modules without the ignition key being on. If the battery give problems in the future it's best to get it sorted asap and don't let the alternator charge a dead or low battery as it can cause surges in the system which will lead to other problems or shorten the service life of the alternator, have the battery charged properly with a charger.
  13. The problem with VW's is the combi valve and this does not happen in P-cars as the secondary pump is higher up and water doesn't collect in it over time as in the VW. Porsche combi valves do fail but often in the closed position. As to the noise described by Johnny-5 I would also check the fuel tank vent valve which can cause an intermittent whistle sound.
  14. I have used Swepco201 and never noticed any improvement... stick with the factory stuff as suggested.
  15. The lock should still operate manually with the correct key. Can you not open the rear hatch?
  16. If you got the car free it would still cost massive amounts to repair and I always find that vehicles that have been in a major collision such as this one will have endless creaks and rattles if you do get them back on the road. Whatever you think think it will cost to repair- double it. It's deployed the air bag and has been sitting open and exposed to the element so it will have hidden faults besides the body damage. Unless you have deep pocket and a great sense of humor I would stay far away from such a car.
  17. The coolant expansion tank and water pump are both areas of concern and should be inspected closely.
  18. No way to rebuild them that I know of. Search for a replacement unit at a breakers yard.
  19. The DME is the fuel injection/ignition control computer and idle speed is one of the many functions it controls.
  20. Contact Porsche Cars North America with the VIN number and they can trace the car.
  21. The last edition of Excellance Mag just have a market update on these models so recommend giving it a read.
  22. So nobody wants to try cleaning the throttle body to see if that helps the problem??
  23. You need to test the battery and charging system. Low voltage can and will cause odd electrical problems in these vehicles.
  24. Do you have the owners manual? There is a procedure to input the tire size and start the relearning via the on board computer.
