  2. I don't understand the appeal of the V1 arrows.... if the detector goes off and I'm speeding I'll slow down, I don't care if it's in front of me,behind,to the side... if I'm caught I'm still getting a ticket.
  3. I have never tried it but have witnessed many attempts and none successful, some lasted longer then others but all failed in the end. I wouldn't waste any time in trying to repair the tank and just replace it.
  4. That temp sensor will take a standard Bosch connector which you can get from any wrecker. My local auto parts store also has new connectors but I can't remember the company that makes them. Bosch used that connector style one fuel injectors,cold start injectors,warm up regulators,O2 sensors,etc...etc.
  5. I think the temp sensor share an internal ground path with the mass air flow sensor through the engine ECU but I am curious as to where you are going to locate the new sensor in the engine compartment that you think will give more accurate readings?
  6. Are you referring to the EVAP purge control solenoid?
  7. There is only the one that I know of. I would recommend replacing the sealing O-ring for the sensor and the plastic retaining clip. Often the clip breaks on removal or falls into the abyss at the rear of the engine so it's wise to have a spare at hand.
  8. I know of a few people who drive their 996 C4's all winter here with no problems. As stated, have a good set of dedicated winter tires and try and remove the road salts often.
  9. If there was an electrical fault with the solenoids or interconnecting wiring such as the internal ribbon cable you would have a fault code. I don't think its an electrical fault but mechanical which is going to need to have the gear box torn down and inspected.
  10. That looks like you have the one way or slip type pulley. The internal mechanism seizes and cause the pulley to separate, you need a special socket to hold the inner part of the pulley to unwind it from the alternator rotor shaft with yet another tool. Just replace the pulley and belt and you should be good to go. If you are removing the alternator for this repair I suggest you have the unit rebuilt.
  11. If you have a electrical failure in the valve body it should default to 3rd gear which is the limp home mode so you should still have a forward gear. I'd more inclined to think you have suffered a mechanical failure such as a broken sealing ring for hydraulic pressure in the front clutch pack. Did this happen suddenly or slowly over time? Are there any fault codes in the system?
  12. There is also a control module for the cooling fans. The dealer couldn't find any faults? The coolant temp sensor has an updated part number.
  13. I have never heard of a problem with this system, best contact the dealer to see what parts are available for repair. Hopefully it's possible to replace just a failed drive gear instead of the complete steering column.
  14. A failing valve body in the transmission can also cause a clunking on down shifts. For the other issues you really need to have the vehicle on the Porsche tester, it sounds like it has lost its key programming or the fobs have failed. The A/C system needs to scanned for fault codes and the servo motors tested, the fan is common to both driver and passenger both the temp is controlled independently.
  15. I can't say as to the Cayenne but my friend has a Land Rover and Benz with heated screens and he has never mentioned anything.
  16. jcam: Apparently, it has something to do with the nutrtitional content of the insulation (starch? carbs? I can't recall) that they use on Porsches (and probably other German cars). NOT Kidding, it was written up in an article, but I can't find it right now. I'll post the link if I find it. Some have come up with very simple, but very effective ways of controlling the population of these rodents. Some photos on PPBB.com IIRC Rodents just chew on everything, it's just part of their nature. I get about one vehicle a month in for repair of wiring harness,hoses,various plastics,sound deadening material... you name - they have chewed on it and they are not just munching on Porsches but every other maker out there. Over the years I have heard of people using moth balls, lye soap or bars of soap to all sorts of remedies but they still get in. The only success stories are from the electronic rodent repellants.

  18. Bond the stud onto the body. If you start drilling holes its asking for trouble down the road with water migration and corrosion issues.
  19. Have you tried turning the steering wheel slightly to unload the lock mechanism and see if it turns? Your pic is of the electrical portion of the ignition switch, the tumbler part is where the key goes. Any problems inserting or removing the key?
  20. Epoxy would be my first try. Your local autobody garage has some very good two part epoxy used to bond body panels that should the trick.
  21. I stick with what the manufacturer recommends as they have tested the product and given it the thumbs up. In the ends it's your vehicle and your money so that makes it your choice to use any oil you want. Lets not turn this into a debate about which oil is better as the internet is already polluted on this topic. Happy Motoring!!

  23. I think you have a regulator that failing.
  24. I couldn't find that style in the PET just the round clip on type that has a 955 part number so I tried to remove one from my 05 but could only remove the part you turn and it has no part numbers on it.
  25. There is a small dampener that returns the park brake pedal to it's start/off position. This can weaken hold the pedal down slightly and result in the warning light. I just pull the pedal up with my foot to be sure it's fully in the off position.
