  1. Not to add fuel to the fire but I have never had a Bosch plug freeze in the threads, NGK and other makes yes. That being said I do use anitseize on all the plugs I install but only a very small amount on the first few threads. I also torque the plugs to spec. I have seen a few cases over the years where excessive use of anti-seize has caused a problem where it seems to have coked and made the plug very difficult to remove. I don't know if the fault was in the use of a low temp anti-seize or just too much of it.
  2. I agree with Loren 100%. If they do make more HP they often have a loss somewhere else in the RPM band. A driving school is always money well spent regardless of how many years you have behind the wheel.
  3. Welcome to the forum and congrats on the new motor. There is a switch for the range selection... is that what you are on about? It's to the lower left of the shifter. It's recommended to purchase the owners manual, the Cayenne is loaded with many neat features.
  4. Why do you think it's at fault that you need to change it?
  5. Any chance of a review of the installed product? I am not familiar with that product and it might be of interest to other forum members.
  6. What year is the vehicle?
  7. Before going to great and expensive lengths like changing the transmission, is there any chance you could test drive a another vehicle to see if it displays a similar fault. If the fault doesn't occur in manual mode but only the odd time in automatic mode then the mechanical portion of the transmission should be sound. In my experience when a component fails inside these units it stay failed, not operating correctly some of the time and then fine again. When a sealing ring for the clutch pack or friction material is broken/worn it's finished and displays the same fault all of the time. Sticking valves will cause intermittent problems as will the pump and are much harder to fault trace. It could be a fault in the software adaption. If no codes are found I would verify the operation of the engine throttle position sensor and readapt the transmission ECU. Disconnect the battery for a minute or two, re-connect, turn ignition key on for one minute without starting the engine, shut key off and then restart vehicle and road test. It's simple enough to complete and cost nothing. Just my two cents and my experience comes from the VW/Audi area. Hope this is of some help.
  8. I would suggest checking the condition of the battery/batteries as they can cause odd faults in these vehicles. If they test ok then your next step is to access all ECU's for fault codes. And as Loren suggested, you'll need access to the PIWIS or Durametric tools. Please provide model year and market in your post.
  9. That broken part is called a venturi tube and is part of the positive crankcase ventilation system. You don't mention the model year of your vehicle but for a circa 2004 the part number is 996 110 170 00.
  10. How did they replace the IMS brng? I was under the impression that you needed a special puller to remove the IMS assembly and that LN engineering manufactured said puller.
  11. You need to isolate which fan motor is failing. A fan blade might have been damaged from road debris or the bushings in the motor are done. With the vehicle off, inspect each fan motor for any broken bits,play in the rotor or rubbish caught in the unit. It sounds as if it only happens on high speed.
  12. It could be that the ABS module is failing. Do the ABS/PSM lights flash or on solid?
  13. Wires are paired and twisted together to reduce any cross talk and the chance of interference building in the harness. You should be able to solder the wires.
  14. You need to check the engine and transmission ECU's for codes. Even though you don't have a check engine light you may still have codes present. Has the transmission fluid level been checked or fluid changed?
  15. To my limited knowledge the VW block/cylinder is the same as the Porsche unit. Porsche changed the intake/exhaust manifolds and camshafts. Any ideas what caused such damage? I have never heard of one of these engines failing before.
  16. How long is a piece of string?? You can never answer these question as it depends on too many variables. Just budget that it needs a clutch and replace when it finally does fail.
  17. I don't think removing the airbag would help as you can't disassembly the airbag.
  18. Be sure the socket set includes a 5.5 mm socket and purchase the Durametric software.
  19. It sounds like you have a misfire and the raw fuel is burning in the convertor. I would not drive this vehicle until the fault is found and repaired. The convertor might not be damaged as I have seen glowing hot before and it has only killed the odd one.
  20. So this Porsche inspection only applies to vehicles still under warranty or have I misunderstood?

  22. Water could have traveled down the shifter cable and gotten into something. I would clean the connections at the transmission and see if that solves the fault.
  23. In Saskatchewan only CT can do out of country inspections. Provincial inspections can be done by anyone of your choice as long as they are licensed to do so.
  24. You need to inspect the complete starter circuit, it sounds like you have some damaged wiring caused from the faulty ignition switch. Position 14 in the relay panel is the starter relay. I think on the automatic transmission vehicles is was just a bridge in place of the relay. Wiring on a 928 is nothing to muck around with... if your not familiar with automotive wiring I would recommend taking it to a garage.
  25. Carden shaft is a big ticket item and spark plugs/ignition coils are another common fault. 18 k is a good price depending on the option list and what recalls/TSB have been performed on the vehicle. Brake pads/rotors are exspensive also. Be sure it comes with both keys and that they operate correctly.
