  1. Remove the two screws and gently release the light assembly off the ball socket. Dead easy.
  2. I wouldn't consider this a common fault. Overall the Cayenne transmission seems to be very reliable except for some valve body problems in the early production run.

  4. Have the engine/transmission mounts been inspected? A collapsed mount can cause excessive drive line angles or resonance through the chassis. I've no idea how one checks the cardan shaft for optical errors... is that a fancy way of saying they looked at it but couldn't see anything wrong?? How many miles on the vehicles?

  6. I hate to break it to you but Japanese transmission fails as well.

  8. If it worked on your 07 VW then it will read the emission related codes on your 997. The odd time a code gets lost in translation but on the whole Global OBD II is the same for every manufacturer post 1996.
  9. I wish I could help but I haven't found any information on these heaters and system as they seem to be mostly used in Europe. Perhaps your best option would be to contact your local dealer.
  10. It's always safe to drive unless the Check Engine Light is flashing and no important fluids or flames are escaping from the vehicle. I also recommend Durametric.
  11. I've never tried but you might be able to see the tube using a mirror looking at the rear of the intake manifold forward towards the radiator.
  12. If the connector isn't broken you should hear a click when it's seated correctly into the coil.
  13. Could be a charging system fault. Water gets into the alternator and temporarily stops it from charging which in turns sets off all sorts of warnings. Let it dry out and all should be well again. You might have codes recorded in various control modules showing low voltages that won't interfere with any operations. Did you use a high pressure system and wash the engine off?
  14. Consumers Reports is rubbish mag that's why. The great poison of society. Educate yourself on forums like Renntech with responses from people who actually own these vehicles and use them everyday in the real world. If possible speak the techs at your local dealer who repair them for another point of view. There have been many owners of the Cayennes that have never set a foot wrong while others have had repeated problems. I personally think the biggest weakness with Germans cars are the techs working on them... they often don't fully understand the complicated systems on these vehicles are they misdiagnose them causing repeated returns by the customer to sort out a problem which causes poor vehicle reviews. Just my two cents...
  15. This is a good question. I also have monitored misfire counts over the years and have found several engine that count misfires but only in the single digits and never trigger any codes or worsen. Sometimes it's only one cylinder or several and you can not feel the misfire while driving or at idle. Only when the misfire count gets into the high tens or low hundreds in a short amount of time while it be felt or trigger the light. I've concluded that it's nothing to worry about unless the DME actually sets a code.
  16. Yes just alter the wiring to fit your new horns.
  17. Perhaps purchase a new switch and just plug it in electrically to test the car. I'm not sure if it will affect the immobilizer but worth a try.
  18. Search the forum for coolant pipes as this was covered in some detail. The coolant pipes are a common source of leaks.
  19. Yes it can be adjusted. You can adjust the hinges to some degree and also latching pins and their mating points.
  20. I would highly recommend durametric and you can log some data trends.
  21. Inspect the upper area of the glass where it attaches to the frame, I've seen the glass become de-bonded from the hatch frame work and cause a gap were water can enter.
  22. The sender is very easy to replace. It's located on the right side of the engine at the oil cooler.
  23. I think if you put the wire to ground it will cause the alarm to sound, it's indicating that the radio has been removed or a aftermarket unit is installed.
  24. The water pump is located towards the top part of the engine. It's under the plastic covers between the valve covers and is driven by the serpentine belt.
