  1. Drive the vehicle for about 20 km's at 4000 RPM to purge the convertors before doing anything. They can become loaded and never get up to temperature to clean themselves during normal driving. Clear all codes and monitor.
  2. At what temp do they engage? Are both fans coming on and at what speeds?
  3. Also inspect the P/S pump and lines for leakage. You'll need to remove the upper engine cover.
  4. Are you sure the coolant radiator fans are operating correctly?
  5. Replace the coolant cap. It has been updated several times over the years.
  6. You really need to drive both several times to get the measure of things. You might not be keen on certain points after the test drives which should help with your decision.
  7. You need to get your vehicle to someone with the Porsche scan tool. It can interrogate key control modules without the ignition key being "on". Does the current tech working on the vehicle have experience with Cayenne as they don't not have a conventional ignition switch but more of a crank/start module. Loren is correct... the battery can cause many faults in these vehicles.
  8. There is a connector that has a similar shape but only five pins I think for the air quality sensor. It's sits near the brake master cylinder.
  9. There are a few things that can cause this fault and the first thing is the have the intake system smoke tested for vacuum leaks. The air flow meter boot between the air meter and throttle body and throttle body and idle speed motor are common areas. Also inspect the fuel pressure regulator for a vacuum leak or passing fuel through into the intake manifold from the vacuum line.
  10. Doesn't anybody use noid lights to test the DME side of the injector? You can also measure the injector for an open circuit.
  11. Yes new batteries can be bad or have a very short service life. You need to have the charging system tested and the fault codes properly diagnosed. If you get returning O2 sensors codes it doesn't always mean the sensors are at fault.
  12. I don't hear anything to worry about. These engines do make above average noise particularly at idle. Monitor it to see if it worsens with use.
  13. Also clean the wheel speed sensor for that wheel and wheel brng for excessive movement. Metal swarf can collect on the magnet and alter it's output which can cause false triggering of the system.
  14. Could it be the part to adjust the calm shell height when fully closed? It rest against the leading edge of the calm shell on the body of the vehicle.
  15. Congrats on the new motor and welcome back to the club.
  16. It can also damage the catalytic convertors. Any idea how overfilled it is?
  17. Have you inspected the driveshaft centre brng?
  18. Well I learn something new everyday. I know that battery chargers can cause problems but I still wouldn't use a maintainer and start operating locks/power windows and such just incase. I've never tested the output of these CTEK units so maybe they can be stable enough without problems.
  19. You should do some research before buying vehicles.... if you were worried the IMS on the Porsche, just wait until the BMW shows you it's tricks.
  20. I have customers that have no starting aids and they have never had an issue here where it is often -30 C and as cold as -45 C.
  21. I have not come across any failures with the tanks but the water pumps have given problems.
  22. It's not a good idea to be using a battery charger on a vehicle without a battery installed as the charger can spike in voltage and damage components.
  23. Interesting to know your ignition range over rev history.
  24. Hard to say but it sounds almost like secondary ignition leakage from a coil. Does the vehicle run ok with no check engine lights. I must admit though that my ears are rubbish.
