  1. The oil pressure sender is starting to fail. That's what is causing the erratic readings at a steady RPM.
  2. If you've had multiple misfires it's recommended to change the engine oil/filter due to fuel contamination.
  3. Check the drive belt in the distributor and make sure both rotors are turning.
  4. Be sure to clean the new contact set.
  5. As Loren said check the ground from the transaxle to the frame. I know the 914/4 suffered from rubbish fuse blocks in the engine compartment, not sure about the 914/6 but it wouldn't hurt to check it out.
  6. I don't think it's normal. I've heard the pump prime a few times but can't hear it over a running engine. Perhaps it the electric coolant pump, I've heard these pumps make noise and Porsche has issued a TSB on the problem.
  7. Replace the separator and all will be well.
  8. Oil separator could be failing. I had one that made a squeal noise... open the oil fill cap and see if the noise disappears.
  9. In regards to the no crank problem, have the shifter cable adjustment and transmission gear selector/neutral safety switch inspected.
  10. Did you get those pressures from the tire sidewall info? Thats the max pressure that the tire is rated for not the recommended pressure for the vehicle. The info should be in the owners manual, sometimes on a decal located on the fuel filler door or drivers door jam. Refer to the owners manual for adjusting pressure with TPMS as it often has to calibrated with the type/size of tire and then a learning period.
  11. I think what RFM is asking is if that the vibration dampener of the DMF contains oil like some engine mounts. To my knowledge it's just a solid, rubber coupler.
  12. Kunkstyle, contact your local Mac Tools rep as he has the correct oil filter wrench. I wouldn't use the type in your pic as RFM stated they can cause pressure points and damage the filter housing.
  13. Well if you disconnected the engine bay hatch switch and the problem stopped I would have to say the switch has failed, probably from water damage when the engine bay was cleaned. Replace the switch and hopefully it will sort out the problem.
  14. Cayennes are very hard on batteries and they can cause loads of odd electrical problems. The main battery is located under the drivers seat on a l/hand drive vehicle. There is also a TSB for main wiring harness from the alternator to battery. Best take it in to the dealer and let them sort it. P.S. It's also helpful to post the model year, engine size etc.
  15. 4420 hits is the amount of ignition cycles. They all didn't happen at 7300 RPM, only recorded at that RPM. It's hard to put that into a time frame of seconds.... I could be wrong but this is how I understand it all.
  16. There is a common fault with the starter bendix and bushing making noise when the engine actually starts but it could also be a damaged ring gear on the flywheel. The starter has to be removed to inspect both faults. As for the clunk noise, check the front engine mount. I believe it's been updated to a 987 part number.
  17. I the light is only for a self check/diagnostic not for deployment of the unit.
  18. The over rev will be marked by the hours of engine operation in the ECU. Example: If the engine has 100 hours on it and the failure happened at 100 hours and a over rev occurred at 100 hours then it all adds up.
  19. CHeck the shifter position switch, they sometimes go out of adjustment or can fail outright.
  20. Wurth Rostoff(sp?). The only thing I don't like about it is it seems to evaporate and you need to apply several applications but it does work very well.
  21. Your car will be faster using iridium spark plugs because of the weight saving with your wallet being lighter.
  22. Drive another Boxster to compare to yours. Also check for water in the brake booster.
  23. Try running it with the O2 sensor disconnected.
  24. Just to refresh my memory, where is the hall effect switch located that you tested? Been years since I worked on a 964 and only seem to remember two PMG's(TDC and reference sensors) that read off the flywheel.
  25. If you become a member here you can download the owners manual or purchase it from a dealer as they are only a few dollars.
