  1. It's hard to say. The amount you have to wiggle the wheel to find play is had to describe.... might be best to save time/money and have a good independent garage or dealer take a look at it.
  2. How you do Deenergize the HID Ballast? You need special Porsche tool PSWHID with software version 66 or higher...... or just disconnect the ballast unit.
  3. Is the noise from the front of the vehicle? Can you feel anything through the steering wheel? Start with the basic stuff like checking the P/S fluid level and tire pressure. Wheel brngs can be hard to diagnose, well traveling at speed turn the wheel to load each wheel-does the noise increase/decrease? You can also take the weight off each wheel, grab the tire at the 12 and 6 o'clock position and then the 9 and 3 and wiggle it to see if there is any play in components. Another trick while it's jacked up is to grad ahold of the strut spring while spinning the wheel and feel for any roughness/noise transmitted through the spring.
  4. It does sound like you have a battery problem. Where are you located??
  5. Like I have said before.... your vehicle will be faster only because of the decreased weight in your wallet.
  6. Like RFM, I have no idea what that wiring is for but it is not OEM. Was it actually wired into the pedal potentiometer?
  7. Well the grey is news to me... I have seen some of the black coloured ones fade to a shade of grey but have never heard of the grey as being a special edition.
  8. I think after '05 there was only one battery.
  9. The CDI module has most likely failed, it's often a leaking or overheated ignition coil that damages the module. With the ignition key on you should be able to hear the module making a very high pitched noise. It's located in the engine bay on the left side near the hinge area for the engine cover.
  10. I would walk away from thia car. It sounds like it has loads of issues and as a buyer you're spoilt for choice right now... many other 986's to choose from.
  11. I don't think you can install the MAF backwards as the screw hole don't align. Why not ask the tech who worked on it what the "slight tune" was.
  12. Is the battery in good condition?
  13. A/C switched on?? That would cause the rad fans to run all the time.
  14. When I looked at the PET it doesn't appear that the latch assembly has any wires/connectors attached to it. I know the 986/996 latches do, maybe it's just not on my PET picture.
  15. Durametric is the best aftermarket that I have used.
  16. Remove the DRL relay and see if the problems continue.
  17. The colour looks fine to me also. The threads seem dirty/corroded, where any of the plugs loose when you removed them?
  18. Do you have the factory relay installed for DRL's? I have seen many aftermarket kits installed incorrectly.
  19. The reading will change with RPM and temperature, is this what you are referring to? Any idea as to the weight of engine oil being used?
  20. Glad you got it sorted. Was the replacement alternator a Porsche part or a exchange unit from somebody else?
  21. It looks normal to me and I wouldn't bother cleaning it. It's a good idea to clean the throttle body well you have everything open and have a look at the air filter and P/S fluid level also. Has the AOS ever been updated to the newer part?
  22. Porsche won't even sell you the air bag deactivation kit for the childs seat in Canada.
  23. This is very rare but check the ripple output for the alternator diodes (and alt/battery general condition) and also for poor ground connections at engine to chassis and battery to chassis. I thought I read before that you checked the coolant temp sensor. Just wonder in what way did you check it and also look closely for coolant migration from the sensor into the wiring harness. Another rare fault but it does happen.
  24. Just a shot in the dark.... but is it possible that the throttle plate or TPS switch base setting got altered? There is a small threaded screw on some throttle bodies that old school mechanics like to fiddle with to set idle speed. The screw is there as a factory setting so the throttle plate doesn't bind in the housing as they expand at different rates. Like I say, just a guess as I'm not sure if Porsche uses this style or not.
  25. The noise could also be from the starter bendix.
