  1. Both valves live pretty deep in the engine behind the alternator so you definitely need to remove the alternator. I would test the function of each valve and also check if the system holds vacuum. Could be one of the vacuum hoses is knocked loose/leaking.   2. I have a 996 but if 997 is the same, then it could be the SAI pump, which runs about 30s when engine is cold. Does it happen when the engine is warm? Maybe when the SAI pump is powering down it creates some static? It's a WAG.
  3. Um...maybe it's just me but it would help if you can be more specific of which part or system you are having problem with? The SAI system?
  4. Seems all the codes point to your bank2 postcat sensor. Maybe you could check the wiring first to make sure there are no shorts. Also wiggle the wire to see if the voltage changes. If it's not the wiring, most likely it's the sensor itself, especially if it's beyond 60k miles.   15. Sorry, like Creekman I was thinking about the clutch pedal. There's no spring on the brake pedal as far as I know. Still, water intrusion in brake booster is a well known problem for '99 cars. There's an updated booster and linkage. The water fills up the diaphragm of the booster, which makes it not returning to the rest position even after you take your foot off the pedal.
  16. When the pedal is sticking, do you feel the brakes are dragging. If they are, it's likely due to water intrusion into the brake booster. Porsche has an updated design that eliminates this problem for '99 cars.

  18. I surely hope you can rebuild it if lube doesn't work. The whole mechanism is $1600 ! Maybe a used one makes more sense.
  19. I never had the light but if you hear horrible noise when manually operating it, the problem is mechanical for sure. It doesn't hurt to try some light lube anyway. Btw, our spoiler is not hydraulic. It uses a simple motor and some cables to move the spoiler http://www.autoatlanta.com/porsche-parts/hardparts.php?dir=996-99-05&section=803-07 There's a small hole on part #17 you can spray the lube.
  20. Most likely it just needs some lube. Mine was squeaking. I just sprayed some lube in the small hole on the black tubular hinge and worked the spoiler up and down and that cured the squeaking.

  22. Thanks for the reminder. I read some posts on the halving the angle. As far as I am aware, there are no notches to reference under the other plug, hence the shorty cam lock tool. The other end of the intake cam (flywheel side) would just point outboard with a single notch vs. the half moons to denote TDC on Bank1. Makes sense. I forgot that the 3 chains engine cams are like that. My point of the cam sensor (blue arrows) picking up the position of the INTAKE cam instead of the exhaust should still makes sense. That is, the sensor will pick up any exhaust cam deviation + any slop at the varaiocam chain and report the total. So it's possible even if your EXHAUST cam notches are perfectly aligned, there could still be slop introduced by variocam (due to worn saddles) that gives you a net deviation. Drawing1.jpg In these systems, there are several ways for the deviation to be out of spec, which is why you have to take it apart and look for something obvious, like worn pads, a loose chain, etc. Always a fun project............ Makes sense.

  24. The deviation is 9.27 degree of the crankshaft. I think the cam deviation will only be half of that but still I agree though your exhaust cam notches seem to line up perfectly. I think maybe the reason is the cam sensor (used to compute the deviation) is detecting the reluctor ring on the intake cam so this deviation may be due to the intake cam not aligned due to variocam pad wear? Do the intake cam notches also align with the cam cover? Just my guess...
