  1. If anyone can guess why by this picture that this setup will not pump water wins! " A Pat on the Back". And I will post the rest of working setup. System :)
  2. I just ordered the RMS and clutch kit form Sunset Porsche in Oregon and they told me that they could get the tool for me ... from Germany. I think the idea is to make sure that you have concentic hole or the case halfs align, as far as inserting the seal measure in the distance and mark, take a plastic cup the same size as the seal and tap in until you hit the marks evenly around. Now we all know we are supposed to use the proper tool! This is my disclamer. Also I installed the 997 seal, case half bolts and INS seal as well since I was down there :lightbulb:
  3. Mine is a 2000, 996 C2 manual DME is 996 618 605 00 alarm is 996 618 260 07. I ordered the Boxster S that had the exact PN#'s along with the key set and lock and the door look. Porsche said they had no problem doing it if I had the Vin# of the Boxster which they are sending me. If you can do it you are welcome to try it would be interesting. When programming it does it need to be hooked up to the DME/Alarm direct or throught a ODBC port. I should have the parts this week.
  4. So I understand this, so I get the codes from who? or is that something that is already in the DME etc that are matched. Also is it a problem to get someone to program it, someone in the pheonix are would be nice or who would you suggest. As long as I know it can be programmed I would feel safe in purchasing the items.
  5. Good Luck and may the force be with you.
  6. I thought that also so I removed the switch with no change but, I'll give a big screw driver a chance at the electrical side tomorrow. Or I and have it towed to a bad part of town and wait for a theif to pull the key lock out. :)
  7. Hmmm, well there are not any huge anti turning mechanisms in the assembly. One thing you might check is to see if the key works in the door. I know it sounds odd but could they have given you the wrong key. I'd be willing to bet I could break the plastic actuator or the key if I was upset and in your position trying to turn it. If possible can you attempt to look down the cylinder and see if there is maybe something in there preventing the key from seating all the way or is it possible the the kek has been marred. I would place my money on either the key being wrong or it got jammed/jarred when it was towed to the impound etc. The key works the doors and center console just fine and slides down the tumblers all the way, my car goes to the shop for my engine transplant Thursday to the supercharged one and I will ask if they have any suggestions. You guys have been very helpful and will let you know what they have to say also.
  8. What did you do to get your key to work.
  9. I got a reply that I would need to get my car to run is match the DME, Alarm (imobliser) and key set. The one on ebay is that the alarm on the lock assy? or is it under the drivers seat as in my picture? The set I was thinking about except the PN# does not match the PN# my 996 calls for. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Porsche-Box...VQQcmdZViewItem
  10. HI is it unknown why the key will not turn? I would dare say try a lubricant, either WD40 or Graphite and be vigorous with your attempts. All the while playing with the wheel incase it possibly is binded somehow. Like when your wheels are turned at just the right angle it puts backwards pressure on the steering rack and causes the column to bind. Unless you stole the car and are just trying to get it out to put your keyed replacement in. Oh and most of the cars I have ever replaced the ignition barrel in had to be in the on position to release the barrel. Just FYI. Oh and come to think I will attempt to see if one of my keys less the chip will allow the ignition to turn. I switched to a GT keyhead and I know I had trouble trying to use it until I found the little glass chip and moved it also. Gimmie a sec. No that wasn't it the key still turned it just wont start the car. I can only say add lub. and be aggressive with it. Good Luck I purchased the car from an insurance auction and of course they took all the expensive parts out! Yes I tried wd40 and giggling and turning the wheel some back and forth same old thing maybe I will try agian tomorrow. I did have a passing thought that because I did not have any power or any of the computers even that it would not turn, but not believing myself on that one.
  11. The steering wheel is not locked and I tried the PDF, but in the instructions the key needs to be in position 1 or "on" which my key will not turn and I can not remove barrel. It is hard to concieve that that key needs to be "on" to remove it. What a joke. :cursing:
  12. Well I removed the switch just in case that was the cause, but still can't turn key. I thouight it took a special tool from porsche to remove the tumbler/barrel but great find I will give it a try. It problem seems that it is in the area you are suggesting.
  13. Thanks for the help, The black box in picture of the drivers seat is this the alarm? And where is the immobiliser located relative to the pictures also you mentioned the learning codes for keys, would I need the matching car (ignition) keys or can I use mine or are you talking about a different set of keys? . It would be nice to have a layout of the components but I can not locate one in my manual.
  14. Would tuners like EVO have this info for this project since my car needs to be tuned for my my custom SC install? Note my above post showing my delemia most if not all my electronics is missing I can replace the relays but if I went to a wrecking yard what is the minimum for me to get it running regarding the computers and keys, then get it to a tuner for my engine work. I hope this clear for the ones that wish to help with my project.
  15. I am missing the DME completley. What are the immobilizer codes, I was under the inpression that I did need the cat numbers and type of car. What is a good option besides new. The DME and the driveblock (alarm) computer must be matched or the car will not run. If you don't have the DME you need at a minimum the immobilizer code from your car to program into the new dme so the car will run. If you buy a used dme you will need the immobilizer and dme codes from the dme you purchase in order to program it to match your car so it will all work. This programming can be done with the PST2 or the new PIWIS tool. Todd Getting a sinking feeling here <_< my donor project is missing most relays, computers and the one under the drivers seat on floorboard is trashed, where is the immobiliser located or do you know where can get a drawing of the locations of the components. Lets assume mine is stripped, what would I need to get it running if I went to a salvage yard I would assume that it would all match and would I need the keys also?. Any help is deffinetly needed here.

  17. No Joy! but quit a few have tried to help me but, the key needs to be turned "on" to push the pin to release lock but, " I can not turn mine" so I'm tring to just remove the switch on the lock in hopes that I can turn the key. It's a long shot I guess but one of the 2 set screws will not come out, man what else, I even contimplated cutting the area with a dremel around the pin so I can pull it out and if that does not work I will just take a FLAME THROWER TO IT!. Anyone have any suggestions. I am just surprized that this has not happened to anyone else that cannot turn there key to the "on" position.
  18. I heard that the DME can only be reprogrammed once is this true? Also what computers at minimum are needed to make the car run.
  19. I need to purchase a DME and was wondering if a same part number as used in a boxster will also work if put in my 996. <_<
  20. What a pain I'm trying to remove the ignition keylock and switch assy because my key will not turn. I removed the (1) nut and bolt that attaches it to the steering column and it seems loose and pulls out about 1/8" but will not come out all the way, seems almost like you need to push a pin or something to release it. Can some send me directions with pictures if you have. I read the DIY but still not enough information on the lock itself. Thanks info@www.webbspot.com Any gurus out there.
  21. Pcar is made to be driven it's not you're fault, get a good used engine from a wrecking yard, install it and get over you're dissapointment by driving that one hard also. At 6-7 grand with used engine and install it's well worth the experience.
  22. Offset is explained very well here Curious on offset for the RUF wheels. since the front 8.5 is larger does the wheel use a wider or skinnyer tire and do you know what TPMS option is?? Front 18" x 8.5" 58mm varies for application TPMS option available Rear 18" x 10" 66mm varies for application TPMS option available
  23. Great, nice to have a update on repair.
