  1. Hi. On my 2000 C2, I've got a slight oild leak. At first I though it was the spark plug tubes/orings. I guess it could still be but I don't think so as they look clean. I see oil at the bottom, back, right side (pass side in U.S.) of the engine. but it seems to *start* at the bottom (I think). in this pic: http://picasaweb.google.com/rollingglue/tm...983030205087810 it ends up at that gold plug at the bottom of the engine (what is that anyway). It's clean now so you can't see any oil. But it looks like it's either leaking from that gold seal, or the black gasket just to the left of the gold seal, or (not shown in the pic) this round metal cam coverm right above and to the right of the gold seal. There's a lot of reverse torx screws holding things together in our engines. Perhaps I should check the torque on them (I would have to find out what that is first).
  2. yes ninsei's (that's me) car is a 2000 C2 with the ZF Tip tranny. I haven't actually looked at the final drive yet, but the workshop manual says there's only one drain/fill plug. It also says you should replace the "seal" for that plug. What is that seal?
  3. Thanks. You mean there is no drain on the Tip final drive? That's what I read?, I'm ready to pump it out. I'm having trouble finding the recommended fluid, so I may end up using something like Redline 75-90w....
  4. Hi. looking to replace the final drive fluid in my 2000 C2 Tiptronic. I know there's a fill plug and I'm sure it has some kind of a crush washer. Where can I get that crush washer? Anyone know the dimensions?
  5. looking at the approved fluids list, it must be either Shell transaxle fluid or mobilube 75w-90. I can't find either one. Any help is appreciated.
  6. Whenever I see a post on alignments I like to refer people to these two articles. Even if you don't end up doing it yourself; this de-mystifies the issues quite a bit and prepares you better to select / deal with the shop. http://www.planetporsche.net/reviews/showp...=232&cat=10 and http://www.planetporsche.net/reviews/showp...=230&cat=10 Hood luck! JP Wow, thanks those are great posts. I will try this myself. but I don't understand the formula. In the link about adjusting the toe (which, IMO, is usually what needs adjusting), they say this: "Let D be the distance between the spots projected by the left and right wheels, and let L be the distance from the front target zone to the rear target zone. Then the toe angle is toe_angle = arctan ((Drear - Dfront)/L)" but don't you need the toe angle for each of the four wheels? which does that formula give you? Or do they mean this: TOE_ANGLEfront = arctan ((Drear - Dfront) / Lfront) and TOE_ANGLErear = arctan ((Drear - Dfront) / Lrear) but even then, that's only two values, I would think we need four. oh, wait I think I get it: TOE_ANGLE for left front wheel is: arctan ((Dleft_rear - Dleft_front) / Lfront)

  8. Hi. 'car pulls very slightly to the right. No odd tire wear. I guess I need a wheel alignment. Dealer wants $350.00. looking at the manuals, i see there are quite a few adjustment points and some of them may even need special tools ('not sure I see why though). Do I have any other choice? I'm in the NY/LI area.
  9. Hi. For the bolt, is there a crush washer that needs to be replaced?
  10. Hi. looking to replace my front pads and rotors. Wanna do it on a budget. It doesn't have to be original porsche parts. Is there an online site that has a good price on aftermarket pads and rotors? The prices seem to vary wildly from place to place.
  11. Hi. On my 2000 C2, i just finished the cupholder TSB. Harder than I thought. Now the climatric control is in the bottom DIN. There used to be an oddments tray in the bottom DIN. Now the second from the bottom DIN is empty but the original cubby tray doesnt fit there. Anyone know where I can order an oddments tray that fits into the DIN that's second from the bottom?
  12. found it. i search for the part number (1319.116-276) and somebody had a pic.
  13. Hi. I got the cable, from Becker, shown in the DIY titled "Porsche OEM Radio / iPod DIY low-cost interface" but it doesn't show how to assemble that cable. It's the one with the blue connector, some wires and some female RCA jacks. Any help is appreciated.
  14. works great for what: from the rear of the car, you can jack it up from the crossmember? if so, that's awesome. what's the part number?
  15. well, technically, I think you're right. The only other safe place (IMO) in the rear to jack up the car is the rear crossmember. But none of my floor jacks reach that far, so I've been using the engine "jack point" in the rear. I don't like doing it, but I see no other choice.
  16. Thanks. So is it a not-so-bad DIY to remove that carrier? Just hold that end of the tranny in place with a jack, remove a couple of nuts and bolts, remove/replace carrier, ... ?
  17. Hi. On a 2000 C2, if I buy the OEM engine protection plate, I will no longer be able to jack up the rear from that rear jack point on the bottom of the engine?
  18. Hi. looking at the three front air inlets, for the radiators and A/C condensors, they're three pretty big inlets with no mesh protecting the radiators from rocks, etc. Does everybody have that or am I missing something?
  19. Hi. On a 2000 C2 Tiptronic, where are the transmission mounts? i see the two engine mounts in the rear, but I cant see where the tranny mounts are.
  20. hi. On a 2000 C2, with Tiptronic tranny, i wanna remove the center console (where the E brake and ashtray is). in all the DIYs I see, you have to remove a screw below the stick shift, so you have to remove the stick shift assembly. But how does one do that with a Tip?
  21. Hi. On my 2000 C2 Tip with the ZF tranny (I think it's HP519 or something like that), there's a big "clunk" and a slight jerk when I put it into reverse.
  22. Oh, one other question: did you have to remove the shift knob and/or center console at all?
  23. I just did that mod myself about a month ago. I have a 00 C4, and it fit perfect. There is a surround piece that goes around the cubby. Once that is removed, you'll have the space you need. Also, you have to re-route the wires to the climate control thru the slot in the back of the bottom cubby. Just remove the bottom cubby and you'll have a better idea of how to do it. Also, select the correct size mug or you will spill some. Not perfect, but it works well when you get the right size mug. Thanks. I'm very glad to hear you were actually able to do it. I'm going to tackle it in a few days.
  24. Hi. On a 2000 C2, with the electrical climate control on top, radio just below it, then the extra CD holder thingy (which i don't need), then an oddments tray (AKA cubby hole). I want to install cupholders but I have a few questions. It says the electric climate control is to be relocated to the very bottom (where the cubby hole is now). but when i measure that space, it is smaller than a standard DIN slot, it doesn't look like the climate control will fit there. Also, how do you remove all this stuff? Is there a good dash trim removal DIY that shows how to remove the necessary parts? Any help is appreciated.
