  1. As far as I know there isn't an official list of interior codes shown on the Vehicle Identification Label. By comparing the colour codes shown in the Porsche PET, and the codes shown in the Order Guides, I compiled the list below. The letter/number shown is the first character of the Interior Colour Code shown on the VIL. The "M" in your interior code would bear this out. 3 – Natural Grey 4 – Natural Brown or Cashmere Beige 6 – Classic Grey 8 – Black A – Black C – Graphite Grey S – Savannah G – Metropole Blue E – Metropole Blue B – Space Grey J – Nephrite Green M – Boxster Red D – Natural Dark Grey T – Natural Brown P – Cinnamon Brown
  2. I had a similar problem, on my 1998 C2, where the seal came loose, but didn't split. There is a TSB ("Noises in the front and rear screens" - or something like that) which shows a foam cord which packs out the void under the seal, and holds it tighter against the screen and body. It works very well. I found it after I had siliconed the rear seal to stop it moving, but used the cord on the front.

  5. Yes. Treat it the same as a MY2003-4 Boxster. This requires connections between the cluster and the stalk, and a feed from the fuse B7. No connection to the DME is required. PM me, and I'll send you the wiring diagram.

  7. I'm sure Loren has posted this a dozen times, but there are 4 conditions for the temperature gauge light: Four functions of the coolant warning light: 1. Engine coolant level too low — light flashes slowly (0.5 Hz) 2. Engine compartment temperature too high — light flashes slowly (0.5 Hz) (engine compartment blower might be faulty) 3. Engine coolant temperature too high — light is lit; pointer on the right 4. Temperature sensor at water outlet faulty — light flashes rapidly (1 Hz); pointer on the right Note The temperature warning in point three is indicated if the conditions "engine coolant temperature too high" and "engine coolant level too low" are present simultaneously (1Hz = 1 flash per second. 0.5Hz = 2 seconds per flash)
  8. I think the Bentley manual must be wrong. The relay assignments shown in the wiring diagrams of the workshop manual for MY1997 show Relay #3 as the Spoiler Extend, and Relay #9 as the Spoiler Retract. Both the same part number: 996.615.102.00. Edit: The relays get their signals from the instrument cluster, not the wheel sensors.
  9. You really need to get a diagnostic check done with a PST2, PIWIS, or Durametric and see what fault codes come up. Maybe it is an alarm condition, and someone in the past has disconnected the alam horn, so you are only getting the marker lights flashing. If you leave the centre console compartment open and lock the car, do you get a single beep from the alarm horn?
  10. I had the same problem some time ago and it turned out to be a door lock microswitch. The locking mechanism operated, but the switch wouldn't tell the alarm system it was locked. As Loren says, you need a diagnostic check, which should reveal what is causing the problem. Meantime you can lock the car with the key using the emergency locking routine - turn the key to the lock position and back three times in quick succession.

  16. Why take it to an OPC? An independent specialist will do the job just as well, and at less than half the labour rate.

  18. I got it about 2 years ago. The current price is £155.84 +VAT (GBP), and the part number is 996.612.981.00. I believe that if you buy them direct from Xanonex they are about 100.00 GBP. I bought it from OPC Reading (UK). The rheostat does absolutely nothing now :angry: , and before any Boxster owners ask, no - I don't want to sell it! ;)
  19. The retrofit rain sensor described in the TSB might be different to the kit they supply. I ordered and fitted the kit, but it isn't quite the same as the TSB instructions. Porsche supplied me with a Xanonex kit (http://www.xanonex.de) and the sensitivity isn't adjustable with the old wiper delay control. It is very easy to fit - you just stick the sensor to the screen and run the cable across the top of the screen and down behind the A pillar trim. Remove the old relay and plug the new one in, and plug the cable into the top of the relay. The relay goes in position 16 of the carrier - that's the slot on the far right hand side of the carrier, 3rd one down. It should be marked on the top 996.615.103.00.

  21. Starter isolation is controlled by the multi-function switch. On early cars this is on the side of the transmission casing (ZF transmissions - 3.4L cars), but on later cars (MB transmissions - 3.6L cars) I recall that it is on the bottom of the selector lever. On the ZF boxes the switch contacts have a tendency to play up, and cause this type of problem. A PST2 will display the lever position and is useful to compare where the lever is, to where the control unit thinks it is. There is also a fault code for the multifunction switch, so it might be worth getting a diagnostic check done.

  23. Just got an email from OPC Reading to say that the PCM2.0 2008 navigation CDs for Europe are now available. The part number is 000.044.901.20 and it is £349.56 +VAT for the 'retrofit kit'. If they have done it for Europe, perhaps it is in the pipeline for the US. I would be surprised if it isn't, as it's a big market.
  24. You shouldn't need the IPAS codes for cluster coding. As Loren says, if it is a new cluster you must set the odometer total mileage before it registers 52-is miles. You only need the VIN number in order to do that.
  25. It just pulls off. You have to be brave and just ease it off from one side.
