  1. After checking the contry coding, also run the Sports Car Handover special function on the PST2 to take the control module out of transit (energy saving) mode.
  2. The part number should be written on the switch.
  3. Loren is correct to suggest starting with the switch. Can you engage the cruise control? If not, then it most likely is the switch, and it might simply have gone out of adjustment. Here's what the shop manual says: Checking brake light switch setting: The pedal must move a perceptible distance of approx. 5 to 10 mm before the brake light lights up. At the same time, check (make sure) that the brake light lights up before the pedal meets perceptible resistance or before brake pressure builds up. There are two possibilities to adjust the switch if the pedal travel to the switching point is too small. 1st possibility: - Press the brake pedal and pull out the switch plunger. - Release the pedal. Check adjustment 2nd possibility: - Release switch by turning it 90deg and pull it out of the installation opening. - Pull operating plunger out of the switch as far as it will go. - Reinstall the switch. When installing the switch for the first time, it is essential to press it vertically against the bearing surface. It will otherwise not be possible to lock the switch (90deg turn), even if great force is exerted. Note A play-free fit of the switch is no longer ensured after it has been installed and removed several times. The switch must be replaced by a new switch as soon as it perceptibly "wobbles" in its receiver. Adjusting switch if pedal travel is too large: Press pedal and press plunger into the switch by one notch (audible click). The pedal travel to the switching point then decreases by approx. 3... 4 mm. Then check setting again.
  4. The pin numbers you are using are correct. Just to be sure, did you make the connections to the WHITE cluster connector? On the switch there are 5 spade connections. The ground wire goes to the centre connection. The other two wires go to the terminals nearest the centre connection - not the ones nearer to the outside of the switch. Other than that, I have no ideas.
  5. The first gear start and higher shift speeds when cold is part of the warm-up map in the tiptronic. It helps to warm up the cats quickly.
  6. It is 987.110.021.00. Exactly the same part as the 987. You would also need the later MAF and some hoses to make it fit a 986 by the look of it.
  7. More likely the DME was replaced?
  8. I found this 'problem' with a German 996TT Cabriolet my friend was working on recently. I believe it might be something to do with the way cars are set up for different countries, possibly due to safety regulations. UK cars are one-touch on both windows, BTW. I suspect the one-touch is controlled by the alarm system, and perhaps there might be another (LHD) country you could select in the country coding. However, I also suspect it might open another can of worms with radio frequencies, etc.
  9. If it is a creaking sound, I would suspect it is the lower wishbone. The ball joint creaks when going over rough surfaces, and usually only manifests itself when it warms up.
  10. First impression is that I like it very much. Very crisp, and better for older eyes, like you say! I can't see the Group Icons under the avatar though. Just a white box with a red cross. Is it me?
  11. You can fit a PSE without the switch. The default position for the valve is loud. However, if you don't want to fit the switch, why not buy an aftermarket exhaust, as it will be a lot cheaper than a PSE.
  12. Yes. When the doors auto-lock, the light comes on.
  13. At around €7500 + fitting it would make more sense to sell the car and buy one with an X50 kit installed at the factory. Or a turbo ;) ;)
  14. This might be of interest: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...pic=9658&hl=
  15. You should have a grey wire with a pink tracer going to the black plug on the radio which is the speedometer signal that Loren refers to. Not sure about the tachometer signal, or why. Edit: Porsche refer to this speed signal as "Tacho A" on the wiring diagram. Maybe that's what your aftermarket radio is looking for.
  16. It sounds to me like they haven't engaged the blade of the key barrel into the new door lock. A friend of mine had this problem recently. If you open the front compartment with the emergency release cable (the alarm will sound), disconnect and reconnect the battery, this will wake up the alarm and you will be able to open the door with the key remote.
  17. The retrofit kit is now priced at £381.83 including VAT!! And that's for the kit with a black plastic steering colomn cover. If you have a leather one, it adds about £218 for a new cover!! In the UK, the stalk by itself is now treated as an exchange item, and there is a £200 surcharge if you don't have one to return. However, you can get them from mainland Europe for about £120 without a surcharge. I don't know how long this loophole will last. I guess they really don't want you to DIY.
  18. Sorry, I hadn't realised that Porsche had released 2008 maps for PCM2.0 for the US. Too many threads, not enough time....... ;)
  19. I find it amazing that Porsche haven't provided updated maps for PCM2.0 for the US yet. They released new maps for Europe a few weeks ago, after saying that they would not be releasing any further updates. I expect it was pressure from disgruntled owners giving their salesmen a lot of grief that brought it about. Maybe it needs a lot more of you to give 'em hell until they finally give in, or some kind of organised campaign.
  20. Yes, you really started something here Ed. Nearly 5 years on, and it's still running! Great groundwork that has allowed us all to build on. Thanks indeed.
  21. 000.044.901.20. I got it from Porsche Centre Reading, via my independent Porsche Specialist, who gave me some discount, and it worked out to be around £380 including VAT. List price is £349+VAT. It requires version 3 software, but the kit includes CDs to update from V2 to V3. Although the disks are marked 08.2007, the data files on disk are 01.2008. They came in a vinyl case, rather than the nice leather one that the 2005 maps I had were supplied with.
  22. I'm not sure where you are, but if you are in the UK then yes, any OPC will do the Porsche 111-point inspection. The cost varies by location, and what you want it for. For example, OPC Cambridge usually do it for free if you want to take the Porsche Extended Warranty, wheras if you just want it as a PPI, centres charge anything between £120 and £200. PM me if you want details of the 111-point check.
  23. I got the latest 08.2007 PCM2.0 European maps and there are EIGHT map CDs plus two multimedia update CDs.
  24. It all depends how you enter the search words. If you are too specific, you may not get the results you are looking for. In this case, it might have been better to search for +tiptronic +knob +remove, perhaps. The advanced searh help box shows other ways of searching for phrases: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...mp;CODE=explain Also, bear in mind that being an American forum, terminology can be different, so might need "translation". Muffler (silencer), Stick Shift (Gear lever) etc.
