  1. PCM1 used two different navigation drives. Up to 31st January 2001 it was an 8-bit drive. After that date it was a 16-bit drive. If you are lucky enough to have a 16-bit, then you can run the Vauxhall/Opel maps for their NCDR/NCDC systems. If your car is 2002 you should be OK. To check which drive you have: From A/C Screen, press bottom right knob. It will display the PCM version, and the Navigation software version. PCM/IDIS V5.43 Nav Software Ver POIE609D = 8bit Nav Software Ver PONA642D = 16bit Nav Software Ver PONA628D = 16bit The update to the software was included in the Porsche 2002-1 map update. All that you need to do to update the system is to insert the 2002-1 map, and the system updates automatically. After that, the Vauxhaull/Opel maps will run. AFAIK, the 8-bit systems cannot be updated. Porsche have released maps for PCM1 systems dated 2008/2009, and I assume these are compatible. All the above applies to European systems. I don't know what is available in the US, I'm afraid.
  2. You will definitely have PCM1, and being a 2001 it should have the later 16-bit navigation drive. You can run the Vauxhall/Opel NCDR/NCDC maps in these drives, but you have to do an update to the system software in order to be able to use them. I'll drop you a PM with some details.
  3. 0.7 sounds good for a standard 996T. As Simi says, only X50 and chipped cars would produce 0.9. Mine is bone stock, and I see 0.6 with the occasional 0.7.
  4. The knobs seem to be available as a pair. Part number 996.641.911.00. That's as long as the stems they fit on to aren't broken.
  5. Unless you are careful, it is easy for the blade (that RFM describes) not to engage in the door lock assembly. I think he is correct, and it hasn't been assembled correctly.
  6. A MY2003 Cayenne would have been fitted with PCM2.0, which uses the CD drive in the main unit as the navigation drive. From MY2005 they fitted PCM2.1 which has the separate DVD navigation drive under the seat. I find it difficult to believe it was downgraded from PCM to CDR23, but as has been said, it would show on the options sticker in the maintenance booklet.
  7. Even though the car is an '03, you will not get all the features of the OBC shown in the operators manual. You will only get the features of the original OBC of the earlier clusters. Hence you can't get Oil, Set, BC, etc. The wiring connections you show are 100% correct. On the PST2/PIWIS you can check the lever movements in the Instrument Cluster Input Signals. I don't know if you can do that with the Durametric though.
  8. You have to work from the 'B' post towards the front. Prise off the coat hook from the bottom and you will se a screw holing the 'B' post trim. It is best to take off the top seat belt bolt and the cover, and then the trim unclips wairly easily.

  11. Once you replace the worn sensor the light will go off by itself. It doesn't need a reset of any kind.
  12. Might be worth talking to Colin Belton at Ninemeister, as he used to supercharge 964s. I think he used the TPC kit. A guy visited me once in a 996 Colin had fitted a s/c to.
  13. Well I'm sure someone with more "local knowledge" on US prices will chip in, but if I was offered such a car in the UK at that price I would bite his hand off. It would cost 50% more over here from a private seller. 996T's are relatively bullet-proof, but that doesn't mean to say that they don't have their foibles. Things like turbo wastegate actuators, diverter valves, and the usual 996 items like aircon rads, etc. Even bearing the chace of those sorts of costs, I'd suggest you could run it for a couple of years and sell it privately and near enough get your money back.

Is that why the trade-in offer was low? Generally speaking, Porsches in the US are cheaper than here in the UK, but (without knowing more details) that seems like a very good buy.
  15. On the face of it, it looks very cheap. The trim parts can be easily replaced, but what about the major stuff? Mileage, service history, condition of bodywork, etc, etc?

  17. Porsche list the control system in the Tequipment catalogue, so you can buy it as a kit rather than the individual parts. Contributing Members can view the TSB which covers installation of the PSE, showing exactly what is involved in connecting up the control system.

  19. You have PCM2.0, which (as you know) uses CD maps. You also have the latest operating system software, Version 3.0. This means that you can use any PCM2.0 maps dated 2005 or later. Porsche have recently released the 08.2009 maps for Europe. Better late than never, I guess. From MY2005 the Cayenne was fitted with the DVD-based PCM2.1 system. That is cars manufactured after 1st September 2004.
  20. You can buy replacement Maintenance Booklets from a Porsche Centre. They are not expensive.
  21. Don't be sad - think positive! Someone paid extra for a special order colour, and you got it for the same price as plain old Guards Red! And think about the extra bragging rights it gives you. At meets you'll be able to turn your nose up at Guards Red cars, and smugly say "mine is Special Order Amulet Red". Priceless. :)
  22. That's what I'm thinking. I think L998 is a "special order to sample".
  23. Not necessarily your bad. Typically, the paint code on the option sticker would be L84A for Guards Red, so it is unusual for it to show L998. (L=Lack - German for Paint) The AH is for the Black interior.
