  2. No, I haven't seen them in the flesh, but I haven't heard complaints about the quality. I believe the Sport version gives a nice sound, but the Super Sport can be a bit too loud for some. Edit: Another option you might wish to consider might be a Dansk system. I can vouch for the quality of these, which is excellent.
  3. I've used Design911 a few times. They have a decent reputation here in the UK. There are a couple of fellows on the Porsche Club GB who have fitted DesignTek systems, and are happy with them. Another site you can try in the UK is Type911.co.uk who are also well regarded.
  4. For the time being try the emergency locking routine. Turn the key to the lock position and back 3 times in quick succession. As Loren says, a diagnostic check will show what is wrong. My money is on a door lock microswitch.
  5. Well things have gone from bad to worse. I tried the handover routine on PIWIS and it failed. It just froze on the 'Please wait" screen after starting the handover and didn't go any further. This is weird, because it was successful last time. I thought it might be a problem with PIWIS, but it did exactly the same with my PST2. We also tried the replacement PCM unit, but exactly the same thing happened. I think it must be some kind of intermittent communication problem on the CAN or MOST bus, or on the diagnosis line. If I/he get to the bottom of the problem I'll post again.
  6. Thanks for the reply. I have had occasions when the alarm module on 986's and 996's have slipped into transit mode, but once woken up they have stayed awake. I have never heard of this on the PCM before though. The owner does have another (used) PCM unit available, so I think we will try that, to see if it has the same trouble. Of course, the other unit may have different faults......
  7. I had a fellow RennTech-er visit yesterday to diagnose a problem on his 2004 Cayenne S with PCM2.0 (Version 3.0 software). The unit gave a system error message to the effect "no navigation, no amplifier, no cd changer, no telephone" and then shut down to a blank screen and would not turn on. I plugged in the PIWIS and entered the PCM Module. Only the Gateway was shown as present, and no faults in it. In the absence of any other ideas, I ran the vehicle handover routine. Bingo! It woke up the PCM, and everything started working perfectly. Today, the error message came up again, and it has slipped back into sleep mode. Has anyone else had this happen? The fellow is visiting again on Tuesday to try again, but I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to look for. Any ideas appreciated.
  8. You'll find it tucked up behind the light mounting tray - to the side, near the inner wing.
  9. A bit of a long shot, but does the window go up if you press and hold the remote button when you lock the car?
  10. I am not familiar with the Durametric system, but I did lower my brother's Cayenne using PIWIS. We went through the Calibration routine, measuring the vehicle height at all four points. When we entered the values, we added 40mm to each value to fool the system into thinnking it was 40mm higher than it actually was. When it finished the routine the car was 40mm lower than before. We found that 40mm was about as far as we could go. Any further and the suspension would bottom out under heavy cornering.
  11. I use the PIAA Silicone Wiper Blades. I find them much better than the Porsche/Bosch offerings, and they will wipe a dry screen without any judder.
  12. Ideally, you should jump start the car using the terminals in the engine compartment, as shown in the owners handbook. It might be a bit obvious, but have you checked fuses?
  13. Anyone tried tapping into the Drive CAN circuit to read oil temp and pressure? The diagnostic plug only has connections for the Comfort CAN.
  14. If you have checked the head unit, take a look at those in the trunk, on the CDC and amplifier. Although the diagram shows the cluster as the gateway, there are no fibre-optic connections. Communication to the cluster is via the CAN Comfort bus.
  15. As RFM says, the MOST (fibre optic) loop starts at the PCM, and connects to the optional equipment such as navigation drive, telephone module, amplifier, CD changer, etc. The fibre optic cables are coated orange, and transmit data and control signals from one device to the next in a ring, returning to the PCM unit. The two orange cables go in to black connectors. If there is a break in the loop, it will not be able to communicate with any components in the loop - hence why I think you get the 'unknown' screen. I would start by looking for a disconnected plug or cable. Has any electrical work been done on the car recently? Edit: This is what the plugs look like:
  16. It is under the right hand seat. On a UK RHD car, that's the driver's side. Silver box with a Motorola sticker on it.
  17. As Oggie says. You need to connect to the white wire coming from the black power plug on the CDR-23. This wire feeds the aerial amplifier directly.
  18. Perhaps it is a MOST communication problem. Maybe look for a break in the fibre optic loop. First though, have you tried a system reset, by pressing the 1, 4, and 8 buttons at the same time?
  19. Are you trying to enter the immobiliser code in the DME or alarm? The alarm can only be programmed with an immobiliser code once. As the alarm is shown as 2011, it has obviously been changed. I'm wondering if the immo code has been entered correctly.
  20. As the table shows, the radio should only draw 0.001 A (after 61 minutes, to be sure). If yours draws 0.6 A, it is way too much. I would pull the fuse D8 for the time being, and see what happens. It won't do any harm, apart from maybe losing your presets, as JFP says. As for the cluster, were you measuring the drain after 61 minutes? If not, you need to test it again after that amount of time. It would be worth doing the test, and watching the draw go down as per the table. Once the 61 minutes has elapsed, if you are getting a much higher drain, that is the time to start pulling fuses, but keep the car locked when you do it. Maybe do it with the windows and top down, double-lock the car to deactivate the motion sensor, and you can then reach inside and pull fuses. Not easy to do out in the snow - find yourself a warm garage!
  21. As Mike mentions in the link in his post, you need to leave it at least 61 minutes with the car locked before you can take a true current drain reading. The manual suggests to leave the front lid open, and activate the catch with a screwdriver. Then lock the car, and disconnect the battery to take the readings. (If you have a siren, best disconnect that first!) There is a useful table in the workshop manual which shows drains from individual components: On the subject of radios, I recently helped out with an '03 Boxster which was flattening the battery in a day or so. We found (eventually) that the CDR23 was drawing about 0.6 amps continuously. It was actually warm to the touch when we extracted it. Having said that, the Voltage Regulator pack on the alternator is the most common cause, as JFP and Mike have said. Part numbers are: Bosch Part number: F 00M 145 225 or F 00M 145 350. Porsche Part No: 000.043.206.37.
