  1. I don't think I have ever heard of a UK car being fitted with PCM (2.1 in your case) without navigation. Are you sure the navigation drive isn't fitted. It should be behind a flap in the front boot, in the plastic cover above the tool tray.

  3. If you can get a product specifically for throttle bodies, so much the better. Yes, I was using 'carb' cleaner as a generic term.
  4. I don't know if it will help, but it wouldn't cost anything to remove and clean the throttle body. If you remove the cover on the body (black iirc) you will see the track and wiper which reads the butterfly position. They often get dirty, so clean it and lubricate with a switch contact cleaner spray. My brother had a similar problem some years ago when he had a 'dead spot' on the pedal of his 996 C4. If the throttle body is dirty, it can also make for an erratic idle, so give it a good clean with carb cleaner.
  5. Ideally what you want is the ETAS Kic2 interface cable, and Modas software.
  6. The 2003 GT3 Cup I worked on had MS3.1. I used the factory Modas system to connect to the DME. It doesn't connect to the OBD2 socket, but to the diagnostic connector on the roll cage, near the back of the right hand door. It uses the ETAS interface. Durametric do a version for the Cup car, but it isn't quite as comprehensive as MODAS. I have the (very rare) wiring diagrams, which I converted from DXF to PDF format.   7. Interesting. I wonder what V35 actually has over V34. The diagnostics module is exactly the same (the most important feature) and the Fault Finding and Wiring Diagrams are older versions anyway. Does anything appear below that which is V35?
  8. Are you sure it is Version 35? As I understand, Version 34 was the final release. Can you get a screenshot of the Version No from the Tools menu?
  9. On the Porsche radio cage, it grounds the contact when you remove the radio. You need to isolate the wire to stop the beep.
  10. They should be able to do a MOST system test with a PIWIS tester, which checks the integrity of the fibre optic loop.
  11. As it says, you need to do a full control module search before you can change the version coding in the alarm module. In other words, from the Vehicle Selection screen, choose 996 and press F12 to search all the modules first - do not just tab across to the alarm module.
  12. I'm guessing you do not have the Bose sound package. It looks to me like there is a break, or bad connection, in the fibre optic (MOST) loop, which is causing a lack of communication between the varios modules (phone, navigation, etc). Seems like you are only getting the functions contained within the head unit (Radio and CD). The reason I guess you don't have Bose, is because you are getting sound. Bose also uses the fibre optic cables for the amp, but the base system, or the ASK sound package, use the speaker outputs from the head unit.
  13. The amp won't be a problem. It was only the early 987 and 997 amps which had the issue, and it was the Level A update which fried them. Level C doesn't update the amp, only the navigation drive firmware. There is no point (or need) to update to Level C if you aren't going to update the map disk. You wouldn't see any difference, and it may render your 2005 map unuseable. The only thing you will get with the MY2013 map disk is new roads - no new features - but you will have to update to Level C for it to work. In Europe, they seem to be updating the map data every two years, so I would hope we get a new map towards the end of this year (for MY2015).
  14. With the PST2, go to the Alarm Module >> Input Signals. You will see an option for the remote, and if you select it you will be able to test if the control unit is reading the remote signal.
  15. I think you'll also need to get it coded for the car, along with other modules which need to be able to recognise the PCM. I don't know a lot about PCM3, but to add certain features you need to get security (or licence) codes from Porsche. I would check that out before you take the plunge. You might be better to go with an aftermarket unit.
  16. I'm a bit late to the party, but you can get a batwing with 4 switch positions. From a 996 Targa, IIRC.
  17. If you could get it plugged in to a PST2 or PIWIS you could read all the switch input signals relating to cruise control. The brake and clutch switches have two sets of contacts in them (normally open and normally closed contacts) and both need to operate correctly for the system to work.
  18. The navigation drive on PCM1 will not play music CDs. It will only read CD navigation disks.
  19. The motor would only blow the fuse if it had shorted to ground. If the brushes had worn out, or a wire burnt inside without grounding, for example, it would just stop working and not blow the fuse.

  21. It is one of many Chinese clones of the Durametric. Often supplied with an antiquated version of the Durametric software, and vary variable as to what works, what doesn't, and for how long. I've known a few people on other forums who have bought them, and almost all of them have been disappointed. If you want to be able to rely on it, spend the extra and get the genuine article. Just my 2 cents worth.
  22. Bear in mind that the leather covers for the lower console sides are ridiculously expensive. The 'leatherette' covers are much more reasonably priced, and are a good match for the leather ones.
  23. I believe stevestrange007 is from Douglas Valley Breakers in the UK. The price of a new unit in the UK is currently around GBP 420.00, so you made a good saving. How the dealer came up with $2500 is beyond me.

  25. If you want internal wiring diagrams for the PCM, I doubt they are available. The Porsche wiring diagrams only show the external connections to the PCM unit.
