  1. It is the sensor for the Litronics levelling system. Sorry, I don't have the part number to hand, but they often break, and aren't expensive.
  2. The blue and white wire in your adapter harness needs to go to an ignition switched supply. It is the wake-up signal for the amplifier.
  3. Sounds like the software isn't communicating with the KTS520. Go to Control Panel>Device Manager, and see if the KTS is shown as a Human Interface Device. If not, then the device isn't connected. The USB sockets on the KTS units are prone to failure, and it might be that. I'm only suggesting this as you have had it working before, so it is unlikely to be a software issue.
  4. Just one note about ukchris's instructions. In the final step, you press F8 to write the change. (F4 saves text to the working log).
  5. Not sure about the amp, but there is a small glass fuse on the circuit board in the CD Changer, which can blow under the circumstances you describe. You have to remove the CDC and remove the covers to access it IIRC. If there is no power on the amp or CDC then the MOST loop cant transmit signals between the devices, and you get those error messages.
  6. That was exactly the same on the car with the headlight washers - everything else worked perfectly. Just enter 'Handover' in the search box at the top of the forum home page, and you'll see what I mean.
  7. It sounds like it may possibly have slipped into "transit mode". (Delivery mode). It seems to affect some cars differently to others, but it is often comfort features, like the interior light dimming, that get 'lost'. I had one last week where the headlight washers wouldn't work, but the handover routine fixed it. I would get a specialist to run the Handover Routine with a PIWIS tester. Even if that doesn't fix it, they may be able to pop the rear lid with the computer to retreive the laptop. If you fancy a run to Maidenhead I could do it for you, or try my friend Tony at Wrightune in Wallingford.
  8. I doubt an AOS failure would cause the car to cut out, but a plume of white oily smoke is common when they fail. They sometimes make a screeching noise when the internal pipe fails - like blowing air through a reed. First thing I would do is to take off the oil filter, and check it for metal debris. If it is full of metal slivers, then I suspect the engine is toast. I have no doubt Specialist Cars have a good reputation, but I would have a word with Russ at Revolution Porsche on Brighouse, as he has some experience of the short exchange engines. Hover your mouse pointer over this: TSB.
  9. I really don't see how those sensors can measure the tyre temperatures accurately, when they are mounted on the (rubber) valve stem. I also don't like that type, because you must be holding the Schraeder valve open permanently to read the pressure. Clip a kerb with the sensor, and you could have a quick tyre deflation. An internal sensor has to be the way to go. Just my $0.02 worth. JFP - I'll bet they are mainly 2006-7 cars, and the batteries have gone flat.
  10. First thing, check if it is wet under the driver's seat. That's where the alarm unit is located, which controls the door locks and interior lights. Seems that it started after you washed the car.
  11. In the UK, Porsche are now supplying short engines for the M96 & M97 on an exchange basis at a heavily subsidised rate. Prices of around £2500-3000 (~$4000-£5000) have been quoted, so it might be worth checking if Porsche USA are doing the same. If the heads are OK, it might be an affordable way out.
  12. As far as I know, the units are compatible. I have heard of a few people who have fitted 16-bit navigation drives to early PCM1 units without issues. If you want to try the 2002-1 disk, drop me a PM.
  13. Not sure if the Durametric will do it, but a Porsche tester will list the last 10 events that caused the alarm to go off. It would also show which compartments show as open, which is useful if you have a dodgy microswitch in the doors, or lids. Anywhere near me? I have a Porsche tester and would happily plug it in for you.
  14. A single beep doesn't indicate an alarm fault - it means the system thinks there is an open compartment. (Door, front/rear lid, centre console compartment, radio contact). Do you have an aftermarket radio? If so, it sounds like the alarm wire has been grounded, when it should be insulated. Is it wet under the left hand seat? That is where the alarm unit is located, and if it is wet you need to get it out asap, remove the lid, and carefully dry it out. If there was a fault, it would give you a double-beep.
  15. Welcome Dave. It always helps to state model and year, but I assume you have a pre-facelift 996 because you refer to the white plug. Not sure what you mean about the speed gong connection, but the pin numbers you show are correct. Plug II is the white plug: Edit: Yes, the pins are numbered on the plug - you'll see small numbers in each corner when you slide it out the housing.
  16. The Level C update only updaes the navigation drive, not the PCM head unit. I don't think you can update an early PCM head unit beyond 05024. If you were expecting it to change to 05395, I don't think it will. I have updated a few systems, and none have shown 05395 after updating. IIRC, the MY2008 map DVD also had the level C update on it, which would have exactly the same effect as the 000.044.901.40 CD.
  17. I don't think there is anything to fix. Level C only updates the navigation drive, so I don't think you'll see a change to the PCM software version. Did you check the navigation software numbers before and after?
  18. The drive is compatible with the head unit, but I'm not sure the navigation drive will work without the security code. Have you tried it? If it does work, drop me a PM, as I might be able to help you find the 2002-1 disk.
  19. You also need to code the steering column contol unit. The full process is: Complete Control Module Search Code DME Code Instrument Cluster > Vehicle Variants Code Steering Wheel Electronics Ignition Off > On Complete Control Module Search and clear fault codes
  20. I don't know if there are stockists in the US for this product, but this device gives you an interface for the fibre optics, and one for the steering wheel controls, making aftermarket head units plug & play: http://www.connects2.co.uk/ProductInformation.aspx?id=18917
  21. I have the multimedia interface kit (no CD Changer), and when I press Disc it shows DISK - AUX - IPOD in the bottom bar of the screen, and I can select the input with the right hand rotary knob. If Disc is selected, the line on the screen changes to something like "no disk inserted" in blue text. If you don't have the MMI kit, I expect it just comes up with the blue message.
  22. You could take a signal from the Rear Control Unit, which I believe is under the left hand seat. Plug A pin 22, black/blue wire.
  23. I've attached a copy of Tim's guide. By the way, I bought ten of the 10-pin plugs which go into the cruise actuator, and I think I have 2 or 3 left. If you want one, drop me an PM with your address and I'll post you one. Factory Cruise Control Retrofit for 1997-1999 complete - 3.pdf
  24. A bit of a trek, but if you are ever in my neck of the woods I'd be happy to do the handover routine for you.
  25. Is this any help?: http://www.renntech.org/forums/topic/5366-hydraulic-oil-for-convertible-top-motor/
