  1. Your system is at Model Level A. You need to do the Level B and Level C updates in order to run the latest map disks.
  2. No personal experience, but I have heard good things about Bas International. They do a glass rear window version for pre-facelift 996's too, although it does use a smaller glass so that it folds correctly. http://www.car-hood.co.uk/
  3. Get them to check the Input Signals for the cruise switch contacts on the instrument cluster (and the DME I think). Check that the inputs match the lever movements. If they don't match, check the plug at the stalk end. Although the plug and socket are polarised, it is relatively easy to insert it the wrong way round.
  4. Mine is a right hand drive car, so it is the driver's side for me! It is close up to the side of the luggage compartment, right behind the fan unit, and from the diagram in the workshop manual it would be easy to mistake it for being inside. Just take off the wheel arch liner and you can't miss it, as you can easily see where the fans connect. I wasn't sure if it was the fan or control unit, so (as someone has already suggested) I put a 12v supply direct to the fan, and it ran, so I knew it must be the control unit.
  5. My fan control unit went bad recently, causing the left hand fan to stop working. On my Cayman it was located behind the fan unit, on the right hand side. It was easy to accress it by removing the wheel and wheel arch liner.

Summary of PCM2.1 Updates This is a summary of the updates available for PCM2.1 systems fitted to MY2005 and MY2006 9x7 vehicles, which are required to run the latest maps (currently 08.2009 – MY2010). 7. This is a summary of the updates available for PCM2.1 systems fitted to MY2005 and MY2006 9x7 vehicles, which are required to run the latest maps (currently 08.2009 – MY2010). First, determine the current (Actual) software versions for the PCM and Amplifier. Press MAIN + TRIP together Scroll down to PCM and select Make a note of PCM Actual Version Go back & scroll down & select Amplifier Make a note of Amplifier Actual Version. If your car does not have an amplifier, the option will not be there. There are 4 levels of PCM software version: 04035xxx – Standard Production Status (Up to Week #42, 2004) 04202xxx – Model Level A (from Week #42, 2004 to Week #16, 2005) 05024xxx – Model Level B (from Week #16, 2005 to Week #22, 2006) 05395xxx – Model Level C (from Week #22, 2006 onwards) There are several early versions of the Bose amplifier, and it has been found (the hard way) that updating these using the Level A update CD can cause the amplifier to fail completely, and require replacement. If Amplifier Actual Version is less than 00017500 (ie 00016401) then do not attempt to update the system using an update CD. SOME of these early amplifiers can be updated using a PIWIS tester, but others require replacement. I would suggest contacting a Porsche Centre to determine this. If Amplifier Actual Version is 00017500/xxxx or greater then it is OK to update using the update CD. Required Updates: 1) If PCM is version 04035xxx then apply updates in this order: Level A, Level B, Phone, and Level C. 2) If PCM is version 04202xxx then apply updates in this order: Level B, Phone, and Level C. 3) If PCM is version 05024xxx then only apply Level C update. 4) If PCM is version 05395xxx then no updates are required, just insert the map disk. Update Disk Part Numbers (9x7): Level A - 000.043.205.46.004 (previously 000.043.205.46.001) – Updates Standard Production Status to Model Level A Level B - 000.043.205.46.002 - Updates Level A to Level B Phone - 000.043.205.46.003 - Updates Motorola phone module, if installed. Not required if phone module is not fitted. Level C - 000.044.901.40 - Updates Navigation Module, after Level B is installed, to Level C. Important: Levels A, B and Phone are done with a disk in the PCM CD drive. Level C is done with a CD in the Navigation drive. Note also that different update disks are required for Cayenne models. Edit 30th October 2012: Just to update this a little, I have just purchased the latest map DVD for Europe, which is 08.2012. Not cheap, at just over £300 +VAT. Part number 997.044.903.50. There are no further software updates, and it was plug & play in my sysetm. Still only partial postcode searches, and the map data files on the disk are 02.2012, so 3 and a bit years newer than the last one.
  8. The PCM version is 05024xxx, so is already at Level B. You only need the Level C update applying, by inserting the update CD into the navigation drive. If you don't have it, drop me a PM with your email address. Edit: the part number of the Level C update disk is 000.044.901.40.
  9. 08.2009 is still the latest European disk. I have it in mine.
  10. PCM software version is 04035AD1 / 0304 What map version are you trying to run? I have the updates if you need them. I think you may also need the Level C update, depending on your map version.
  11. MY2004 and MY2005 have the same connectors to the PCM unit, and on MY2006 PCM2.1 they are significantly different. This made me think that maybe the MY2005 dars were a bit of a hybrid. MY2004: MY2005: MY2006:
  12. As a matter of interest, what it the PCM Software Version number, and what version of the map disk are you trying to run?
  13. Good grief Logan, I have trouble remembering what I did 7 days ago, let alone 7 years! The readings in that post ( http://www.renntech....es-p1123-p1125/ ) were taken with my old PST2. The fault turned out to be a bad MAF, and the reason that it didn't throw a CEL is because my car was a UK model 1998 996 C2, which is not OBD2 compliant.. I seem to recall getting the results by doing a vehicle report, printing it to PDF, and then cutting and pasting the results into the post. Having changed the MAF rules that out for you. Sorry that this info isn't much help. Edit: I forgot - Yes, the intake was totally stock.
  14. Being MY2005, I seem to recall that the Cayenne used a PCM2.0 head unit, with a DVD navigation drive under the LH seat. I have a feeling that unit 6654 might be the MY2004 PCM2.0, which had CD navigation in the head unit. I can check it out when I get to my PC tomorrow, and report back. I think the "amplifier not available" message is because the unit needs recoding to suit the options on your car. Same applies to the CDC and phone error messages. However, I'm not sure the unit will be compatible with the navigation drive. If you fancy a trip out to Maidenhead, I'd be happy to plug in my PIWIS tester, and see what I can do. I have a PCM 2.0 CD map, so could try that too.
  15. 1) I have the VisseO MOSTO in mine, and it works great. It is basically the same as a Nav-TV Tooki, but a slightly smaller package. I bought it on eBay (used) and they tend to sell for less than the Tooki, as they are less well known. I paid 80GBP, so something of a bargain. Mine works fine with my iPhone4 and syncs phonebook, etc. You can get it to stream music via Bluetooth, but I haven't got it set up for that. 2) Yes 3) Which steering wheel have you got? I have the multifunction wheel, which has phone buttons that will control the VisseO. It you have the buttons, perhaps they can be coded with a PIWIS. It is just that I'm not sure what you mean by "non phone" buttons.
  16. Yes, you can buy a 3-lever stalk and swap the OBC stalk. It has a short loom attached. However, 4-lever stalks are cheaper (if you are buying new).
  17. You will still have to make the wiring connections to the cluster if you fit a stalk. The good thing is that the OBC stalk lever is screwed to the side of the centre unit, and you can fit it without removing the steering wheel. ALL pre-faceift cars will show the outside air temperature if you enable the OBC without fitting a switch/stalk.
  18. Take a look at the cruise retrofit thread in the 986 Boxster DIY section. It is pretty much the same as a late model Boxster. 3 wires between the stalk and the instrument cluster, and one between the stalk and the fuse box. Drop me an PM with your email address and I'll send you the connection info and part numbers.
  19. You have to go back to Version 31 of the software. I don't think you can simply re-install V31. Do you have a disk image of a pre-V31 installation? There was also a change to the computor bios in V32, and again, I don't know if it will affect things if you roll back to V32. The bios may have to be re-flashed.
  20. There is a "control unit" (relay) on the underside of each seat. It might be worth swapping those from side to side, to see if the problem transfers to the other side.
  21. Go to Main>Set, and you will see an option for "Individual Memory". The attachment shows what options you can change. The booklet you need is part number WKD.951.320.06 (UK, English) and they are GBP8.75 +VAT in the UK. For Italian, it will be a different part number, of course. PCM2-1_Individual_Memory_V2.pdf
  22. It is fine to drive it in the emergency program. Here's what the 99 SIT says:
  23. The C4 has "titanium" coloured brake calipers (silver), whereas the C2 has black. Saves opening the trunk!
  24. I found this when I first got my Cayman. On my 996s I always carried my key in my trouser pocket, but when I did that with the Cayman key (Gen 1) I came back to the car three or four times and found the front lid open, or the windows down. Fortunately, it happened when the car was at home or parked outside my office. Putting the key in my jacket pocket has eliminated the problem, although changing the timers, as RFM says, will help. I think it is just the shape of the key and buttons which causes the problem. The Gen 2 key heads are a different shape, and seem to be much less susceptible to accidental operation, so I might get one of those and give it a try.
