  1. Is the central locking working at all? ie does the driver's door lock by using the switch on the dash? If not, check the fuse on the alarm control unit under the passenger seat (RHD car). It is a small fuse between the two plugs, and fuses the central locking system.
  2. I'm sure I speak for everyone in thanking you for your dedication to this site, and for the help you give to all of us. The wealth of information from you and other contributors is second to none, and is always a reliable reference source. The more complicated these cars get, the more we need RennTech to guide us, and here's to the next 10 years!
  3. The pre-MOST Bose M680 amplifier was only used for MY2002, and it amplifies the speaker outputs from the head unit. The Harman M490 amplifier used the line outputs from the head unit, and I expect they made a common loom for both setups.
  4. You need to connect both the A5 aerial amplifier and the C6 wake-up signal to the antenna output from the head unit. It doesn't need much current to the C6 connection, because the amp has separate supplies for the power connections.
  5. The codes should also be on the printed VIL sticker in the Maintenance Booklet.
  6. Could that be AT, rather than AI? AT is short for Austausch, German for Exchange.
  7. The PCM message is typical of what happens when there is a break in the MOST loop. The 'System Error, Amplifier, CD Player, Nav System, Phone not available' messages are all from devices connected by this fibre-optic loop. Hence you can see the software versions of the devices in the head unit, but none of the external devices. Just a thought. Can you eject the CD changer cartridge? I saw one last week where the internal fuse in the CDC had blown, and it had all the PCM error messages the same as yours. Also, there is a possibility that the failed phone update has caused the PCM unit to lose its coding. I have seen this happen before too. I don't think either of these would explain the PSM/PASM error messages though. As has been suggested, a diagnostic check is the starting point for troubleshooting problems like this.
  8. As Loren says, If you disconnect the MAF you may get a fault code stored, but on a UK car you probably won't get a CEL, as the DME is programmed differently for CEL activation compared to US cars. You may well get the ABS/PSM light, as the DME will be sending implausible signals to the PSM controller.
  9. Does this help? http://www.renntech.org/forums/topic/30230-porsche-pcm-21-screen-replacement-tutorial-video-pics/?p=160142
  10. 1c is not oil temperature. You can't read it through the AC panel. The 'climate diagnostics' only work up to about 1999. It definitely doesn't work on the 996-2.
  11. Aren't they for the BiXenon level adjusters?
  12. With the donor alarm module and DME, did you put the immobilser pill from a donor key into the key you are trying to start the car with?
  13. If you are anywhere near me (Maidenhead, Berks) I would be happy to plug in my PIWIS tester for you.
  14. The features matrix for Durametric does not seem to include PCM: http://www.durametric.com/modelfeaturematrixv6.aspx Why not drop them an email ans ask? The manual I refer to is the workshop manual, from which that image was taken.
  15. This is the back of the PCM (photo courtesy of someone else here) and I have marked what I believe to be connector K, which is the video input: And this is from the manual which shows coding for Reversing Camera:
  16. In PCM2.1 there is a coding option for "with Reversing Camera" which can be set by using a PIWIS tester. On the back of the PCM unit there is a Fakra connector for the camera input. IIRC it is at the top right hand side as you look at the back of the unit. I have a photo somewhere, and will post it later when I get to my PC.
  17. If you have PCM 2.1 (the DVD-based system) there is an option for coding a backup camera in the PCM settings. On a system without a TV tuner, the camera plugs in to the PCM unit. If it has TV, then it plugs into the TV module. The connector in the PCM is a Fakra connector, so you would need a cable adapter to attach the RCA plug on an aftermarket camera. I've never done this, but I can't see why it can't be done. It is a popular retrofit on Mercedes which use a very similar system. If you look on eBay, you will find adapter leads for this. (Search Worldwide for fakra rca mercedes). I can't get your link to work, but maybe consider a wireless camera to make the install easier.
  18. It is the microswitch in the door lock which senses that the door lock has reached the unlock position which is causing the problem. (Unlock not reached). The door is unlocked, but the system hasn't received the signal - hence the double-beep. It doesn't say which door, but you might be able to determine which by looking at the input signals. See if you can see the "locked" switch on each door when you lock and unlock them.
  19. Did you attach to the Comfort CAN or the Drive CAN? (Two separate CAN buses, but perhaps you already know that). If you can get it to work, I would be very interested to see what data you can read, particularly if you can display oil temperature and pressure.
  20. DME5.2.2 has a single connector with 88 pins. DME7.2 has 5 separate plugs with a total of 134 pins. The difference would be obvious. The alarm might not stop the engine cranking, but if the DME can't communicate with the Tiptronic controller then it won't crank. Kare - I would give it a miss, unless you have the ability to re-code both units, and the IPAS codes for them.
  21. And another thing. The Tiptronic needs to signal the DME it is in Park or Neutral to engage the starter.
  22. I really don't know the difference in the fuel maps. There are other things in the DME program which interact with the Tiptronic module via the CAN bus which are not present on the manual. The alarm module coding is different 996/986 due to several factors. Cabrio/coupe. No rear trunk on a 996, etc.
  23. 534 and 535 are different radio remote frequencies. If you are using a matched set, I can't see why it wouldn't work. The fuel map is different for manual/tiptronic though. Unless you get the IPAS codes with the donor set, you won't be able to get them recoded to suit your car. The alarm module is also coded differently for 986/996. You can change the settings, but again you need the IPAS codes.
  24. The immobiliser uses the diagnostic line (W-line iirc) to transmit the immobiliser code to the DME. If you have the wiring diagrams, you will be able to identify which wire it is. On a 996 there is a plug and socket in the rear footwell that this connection runs through. I had a case where the plug and socket pins were corroded, and it gave exactly the symptoms you describe. If the 986 has a similar connector I would check it, and even if not, I would check the diagnosis line between the immobiliser (alarm) unit and the DME.
