  1. It is not as involved on a Boxster because the shift lever does not sit on top of the transmission. B&M has come out with instruction for 997. http://www.bmracing.com/media/products/pdf/67.pdf I have watched a mechanic remove the 987 counsel and it look like the same as a 997. The version sold by Porsche would even be easier that the B&M because the short shift lever is already installed in the shift tower, so all you do is swap shift towers.
  2. In the middle of the VIN there should be the letter V or W. V is 1997 and W is 1998. Another way is that model year 1998 was the first year for side air bags, at least on the US model.
  3. The Monster Boxster has one.
  4. First time I have seen the hardtop in person. I have seen the chrome exhaust tip $340 option before, but here it is on the same car. A 2006 S.
  5. If the windstop is put in correctly this will not happen. I bet you have a broken clip(s). There is a clip on each roll bar and on each side of the clear plastic. Check all 4 carefully as it is sometimes hard to tell if one is broken.
  6. On the 22nd of October there is the Canepa tech session and also a Doc Wong drive.
  7. Work on cars in Pumpkinville. A good change of venue.
  8. Pictures from Neil on boxa.net of a UK car with 987 boot - I mean trunk - liners. http://www.boxa.net/forum/index.php?act=ST...t=0#entry181718 They are shown on page 25 of the 987 Tequipment catalog (paper version) that just came out.
  9. Like to see a picture of the broken piece. It is not hard to replace the steering column switch assembly. Air bag and steering wheel needs to come off. We do this when we retrofit the OBC because we replace the 3 stalk switch with a 4 stalk switch. If you only have a 3 stalk switch you might want to replace it with a 4 stalk and do the OBC retrofit. The 4 stalk switch cost less than a 3 stalk for some strange reason.
  10. You can swap the headlights. The other thing you will not have is the beam rotation. But others have managed without this feature. You will also need to get clear triangles without the hole for the washer for the 2001 unless you are going to use the amber ones. Since your 2000 has washers you will need amber triangles with the hole unless you are going to use the clear ones.
  11. The shape of the 996 headlights changed in model year 2002, so if you want to use those headlights on your 2000 then you have to change the fenders and bumper cover. There is a litronic retrofit kit for you year but the shape of the headlights is what your halogens looks like.
  12. Did Tim Benson help you with that? The tech session at his shop and wine tasting was last October. How about if you hit on Tim for a repeat this October.
  13. At one of our work on cars days we had a 52 and 53 filter. I compared them and did not see a difference. 52 is still a good part number. 53 is just the latest version. The GT3 uses either one, just like the Boxster, 996, turbo, and Cayenne.
  14. There is only one part number listed. 986 631 050 00
  15. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...ic=4045&hl=seal
  16. I don't remove them because sometimes they break. I drain fluid from the RR nipple until the level is at the sensor in the reservoir. Then fill the reservoir and start bleeding. You start at the RR. I use the Motive pressure bleeder so when I drain the fluid the Motive tank is empty. If your Mitivac is the one I have then it creates a vacum at the nipple.
  17. You cannot use that changer as you found out since it is for a MOST system. For your year you need the Becker 2660/Porsche CDC-3.
  18. I have a drill and rivet gun for the clip replacement. The last guy that had a changer problem came by my ofice and we swaped changers and figured out his was bad so he sent it to Becker to be fixed. This will take 30 minutes. If you can make it to San Jose during the week we can do it at my office.
  19. The switch for a 1999 is 986 613 795 02. The retaining clip is 999 507 534 02 and you need two of them. In the pic the switch is on the right and the clips below.
  20. I have been seeing this on the 2006s. A mechanic told me that when the car is in the transit mode the designated speed cannot in fact be exceeded.
  21. If your top will not move and the parking brake warning light is on when the engine is running then I would replace the switch that you have been pushing where the locking latch goes. Also ask the parts person for the 2 round clips that hold the switch in place as you cannot reuse your old clips.
  22. One of our local owners, Jean, had his engine replaced this year with a new engine by our local dealers. Jean has a 2000 2.7 manual transmission. Porsche did not have at the time any new manual transmission engines in the US. So Atlanta shipped a tip engine to our dealer. Peter put it in. Peter said all he had to do was to change some of the wires for the engine harness.
  23. The bulb swap is a good suggestion to try. See, I'm confused. The low beam is xenon. The high beam is a standard halogen H7 bulb. But you say the xenon bulb is not working. Perhaps it is your halogen high beam that is not working? There is a list of replacement bulbs in the owners manual.
  24. Most people hide the remote behind the switch pod on either side of the radio or under the center console after you remove the ash tray and the holder for the tray. You might as well just use the 9 volt battery since they last a long time with an opener. But, years ago for my truck and my very old Stanley I bought a thing that converts 12 volts to 9 and it is the size of a 9 volt battery. No clue what would happen if you put 12 volts in a 9 volt device. Your easy 12 volt source is the cell phone connector below the radio. If you really want to run wires from the interior of the car to the front trunk then search around here. It is not hard to do but I do not know anyone who has done it for an opener.
