  1. What I was told it that it is a 1999 C4 with a bad engine and it was being sent to Florida for a 3.8 engine transplant used on a 997 S. Then it showed up again months later at my local dealer with the owner, and the shop foreman took it for a drive. They were taking about how hard it was to get the new engine to work on the 1999 but I was not paying much attention. I know the owner but have no email and he is not on the message boards. I will see if I can get him on renntech.org for the details.
  2. 502 means it was made in Finland. Someday I would like to find out why the place of production was given an option code since the Boxsters made there and in Germany are the same.
  3. Porsche changed the part about 2 years ago. Red plastic became white plastic. The white plastic has a different feel to it. I suspect the white plastic is more resistant to heat. If you have white plastic on a 1997 then that is because they have been replaced.
  4. I think the phone connector went away when the 987/997 came out. I watched a mechanic remove the console on a 987, including taking out the trim below the radio. I did not see an unused phone connector like you would see on a US 986/996. Too bad because this was a handy source for switched and unswitched power.
  5. Well, I did ask one of the mechanics. The same mechanic who told me how to replace the tank, which I did last month. He does not consider this condensation normal. He said to snug up the 8 screws on top of the bleeder valve and see if that makes a difference. If the picture looks strange it is because it is my old tank sitting on the driveway. I removed the 8 screws to see what was under the bleeder valve cover.
  6. The 2.5 plug has 2 electrodes. The 2.7 and 3.2 have 4 and the electrode design is different. I think the 4 electrode plug is 1.6 mm. But I have no idea how you could measure the gap of a 4 electrode plug.
  7. "EPA tested and approved" Ask for a copy of the test. Then run. Might as well put a hair dryer in the intake.
  8. Used the link and bought two copies of the Bentley manual. Also the Brian Long book. And the Gavin Farmer book. I want to see if Mark Bennett (Boxster owner from the Porsche Club of Great Britian and moderator of that board) is really mentioned in the acknowledgments as Mathew. There is a Cayman book called "Thrill of the Chase." It is not on Amazon. It is published by the German company Delius - Klasing. This company prints books for the Porsche press department. Including the original 1996 Boxster and 1999 Boxster S books that were sold at Porsche dealers. Will have to see if this book makes it's way over to the US.
  9. The car has 3 horns. A pair behind the front bumper cover for when you push on the air bag cover in the middle of the steering wheel. The third horn is just for the alarm. It is next to the battery. If you open the front trunk and remove the battery cover you will see a round horn under the negative battery cable. The alarm horn has nothing to do with the the other horns. If you set the alarm and get a beep then it comes from the alarm horn because the car thinks something is opened. Has nothing to do with the steering wheel horns.
  10. http://www.pca.org/tech/tech_qa_question.a...E-32A7003D2692} http://www.pca.org/tech/tech_qa_question.a...4-E8AFFBBBCF4F} http://www.pca.org/tech/tech_qa_question.a...E-337BB00E2233} I have seen a few of these messages over the years. Condensation above the service tray in the rear trunk. Some owners have been told it is normal. Heat from the bottom of the trunk lid and cold from the top. I never thought this was normal, but I never asked one of the mechanics. I had cracks in the bottom of my tank and there was no condensation. My January 1997 had the VW/Audi cap that was used back then - not even a .00 cap. No warning sticker to screw the cap on straight. No condensation on my car. Your car is a mystery. Tank has already been replaced. Cap replaced - but this is not clear. Your cap was replaced when the tank was replaced. Then did you just replace the cap a second time? The reason I ask is that at a tech session at an independant shop they have had new caps that did not hold pressure. When they replace a cap they test it first to make sure it is not defective.
  11. The link from Paul has 2 new pictures of the BAS International top with a new style glass window that does not have the large orange defogger lines.
  12. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...st=0entry8372 http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...=4401&hl=mintex
  13. PM me the last 4 digits of the radio serial number and I might be able to get the code.
  14. Months later. It is back. With a 997 3.8 conversion. Loud as ever.
  15. It was a difficult decision done in the time of need.
  16. Top speed under an ideal situation does have a limit. How fast the engine will spin. When the rev limiter kicks in the engine cannot spin any faster and the car cannot go any faster. In the old days the test reports would say that top speed was electronically limited.
  17. Need to see a picture of the connector. Most people find the unused cell phone connector and wonder what it is. It is black with 4 wires. And has no place to plug into. It is not alway in the exact location in the picture. I think the 996 batwing has switches on it. Windows or heated seats - I forget. Those connectors looks different and has 5 wires.
  18. Bentley has just released a shop manual.
  19. Gert stills has it listed on his site for 75 euros. http://www.carnewal-europe.com/main.htm Or you can take an optional shift and cut the 2 black plastic zip ties and remove the knob from the boot.
  20. That style looks like the sport design wheels. I do not have a picture of that in yellow on a Boxstir, so this is the best I can do.
  21. Porsche sells the grills. When the front of my car was hit and the bumper cover replaced the body shop replaced them. They turn a white or gray with age. The shop will want your car to match the paint, to the paint that is on the car. The 2 shops I have used simply do not make up a color from the color code alone. Batches of paint differ. Suppliers differ. Finland vs. Germany. They take the color code and then use it as a guide to adjust it to what is actually on the car. The 2 shops I have used over the years made a perfect match on my artic silver, which is said to be a difficult color to match. One shop used Sherwin-Williams. The other used Silkkens. An article in Panorama said Porsche uses Dupont. Dupont has been buying up other paint companies so who knows. Your body shop sounds like they know what they are doing.
  22. You might want to see if Gert still sells just the boot. Otherwise you would have to cut your boot to remove the knob and then see if you can attach your boot to the new knob with a zip tie. The porsche shift lever is a flat blade, so then you have to figure out how to secure the new knob to the shift lever.

  24. The go-no-go measuring tool has not changed. I was told that they have seen repeat leakers and the tool always fit. So the tool is much to do about nothing. They still measure the crankshaft by hand like was done before the tool came out.
