  1. Make sure to verify the part number that is on the tool. Just in case there are 2 different versions of the blue tool. If I had Geoff's blue tool I would try it out on one of the local owners that has a B&M, but Geoff is in Southern California. His tool came with the Porsche 997/987 short shift. But this short shift is not like the B&M or the black Porsche clone that Porsche used on the 996/986.
  2. I met Geoff in November and checked out the blue tool. I do not think it will fit on a B&M because the metal shaft is fat and the "pinchers" may not clip on. But I have never tried it on a B&M. If the blue tool works with a B&M then let us know because I will then buy one. There is also a white tool but it is identical to the orange tool, and neither will work on a B&M.
  3. I think there is something wrong with the 416 in your part number. The closest I can find is 996 631 496 00 which is right C2 tail light.
  4. I took that connector apart so long ago I barely remember what the pins look like. There are a lot of pins listed and I cannot figure out which are the correct ones so I would be guessing if I gave you part numbers. I suggest you go to your parts department and see if they have a bin with all the different pins and see if you can match them. You should also talk to the service department. The early Boxster had problems with those pins corroding and if they have replaced them before then the service dept will know what you need. Porsche issued a bulletin on replacing the pins. But I only see one pin listed, 999 652 571 22. The problem I have is I am not sure this is the correct pin you can use for a speaker, and there is no listing for a male and female pin. If you figure out the part numbers then let us know.
  5. I have seen one of the mechanics use the plastic tool in the first pic. The one at the bottom of the second picture is a plastic trim tool I bought long before I owned my Boxster. It is very handy. One of the local gals calls it the vampire tool.
  6. If you want to do some research you can see the Bosch part number for the control unit for the beam rotation, 0 307 870 007. I took this picture in 2003 because a guy asked me for the Bosch part numbers for the headlights and the control unit. He worked for Bosch and could get a discount. Turned out Bosch had sold the automotive headlight division. Do not know if the control unit is specific to Porsche. The white sticker is the Porsche part sticker I pulled back. The actual part number is 996 618 151 15, but 000 044 900 38 is on the sticker and listed in the TSB.
  7. It might still blow with a 30 amp fuse. Since the wrong fuse was in maybe the prior owner had the same problem.

  9. No clue. D1 is windows, but it should be 30 amp. D3 is the top and it is also 30 amps.
  10. That is the trade-off of a short shift, unless you did not put it in properly. Try it for a while and see if you get use to it.

  13. I have spent some time in Boston traffic because my brother has lived there for years. Horns ain't going to help you as the drivers are not only blind, but deaf. The Italian company Fiamm has a monolopy on the air horn market. I bought Fiamm Riviera from a local parts place. I think Pep Boys. I looked at Kragens, Autozone, and so on, and was seeing the same horn repackaged under different names. I just tried the my horn. The delay is very, very slight. I do not know if the compressors have improved over the years or because the hose from the compressor to the trumpets is so short due to the way I mounted them. Keep in mind I would have had to mount them differently if I had an S, but even with an S there is a lot of room behind the bumper cover.

  15. Can't avoid the delay because the compressor has to kick on. The Boxster is the 4th car over the years I have owned that I put air horns on. The delay in the Box air horns is very slight for some reason compared to the other cars. Since I retained the oem electric horns I like the delay. If I tap the horn (like when the light turns green and the car in front just sits) you hear just the electric horns. If I hit the horn harder then all horns come on. This is another reason I decided a switch was not necessary. Next time I'm going to try these horns sold by Griots. Very compact unit since the compressor and trumpets are packaged together. With all the room behind the bumper cover I can mount several sets of the horns.   17. This is good trivia. The hook inside the gas flap for the tether started for model year 2001 so a 2000 will not have it. There were also 2 service actions/"recalls" for the caps on certain years. Guess what year car is this current picture.

  20. Very good pictures. Thank you. The PIWIS is much faster. I think it is DVD based and not CD. It has a touch screen. The mechanics have told me why it is better than a PST2 but I do not remember all the details. I have seen it hooked up to my car too many times that I do not want to remember. This is my car with a PIWIS.
  21. The TSB says to follow the instructions in the shop manual. I do not have a 987 manual or a handy car to look like. On a 986 there was a single phillips screw that you removed and then pulled the footrest off. The TSB says it should take 20 time units and if my math is correct that would be 12 minutes, so I would expect it to be simple like it is on a 987.
