  1. You squeeze the "ears" then pull the conntector off. And get a rubber arm if you are right handed.
  2. Both shafts are bent/broken. The middle LCD display has missing segments. Other than that it is in great shape. I would need a donor cluster for parts. Send me your cluster....
  3. That would be a long drive from Alabama. Seems the locals have been too busy for a work on cars day. Make sure you have the right shift. Looks like you have 45182. http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/show...23&page=1&pp=15
  4. It is not a direct fit The air duct on the back side is different. Yes. Peter Smith. When he tried to put the 2003 style cupholders on a 1999. But then you need to post a picture of what you want to do. Just to be sure.
  5. There is a retrofit kit 000 044 801 91 that has all the parts except for the a/c trim.
  6. I am going to start calling this the Geiger Syndrome.
  7. Make sure aux is turned off. The changer does not need a separate ground wire. The round plug you connected to the changer has a ground, or you would not be getting power to the changer. Find someone with a 2660 or Porsche CDC-3 and swap changers to rule out a bad changer. Also swap magazines. Boxster guy thought he had a bad head unit or magazine because 2 changers would not work. Turned out he had 2 bad changers. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...5465&hl=changer His head unit would see the changer, but the discs would not play. He got the 2nd changer from ebay as well.
  8. Never seen that few, or that much. For the 996/986 locks it was about 30. The lock style changed for 987/997 and I do not have a picture of that kit.
  9. I have seen it in the front trunk area next to the pollen filter, so you would never know it is there.
  10. Have someone pull up on the lever in the door sill while someone prys up on the lid with a padded tool. If there is no resistence when you pull up on the lever then the cable to the lever is broken. A broken bowden cable is not as common on the front trunk like it is on the rear. If it is broken then you have to go to the emergency release. You want to first rule out something got caught in the latch.
  11. This is what they should look like.
  12. There are 3 "dummy" switches depending on the year and finish. 996 552 425 00 A01 is the gloss black smooth style used 1997-1999. 986 613 425 00 A01 is the gloss black raised style used 2000-2001. 996 613 425 10 A05 is the mat black raised style used 2002-2004.
  13. Not the stero guy, but.... Bose started in 2002. If you do not have door speakers then you do not have the normal optional amp in the front trunk behind the spare tire.
  14. No. That is for the a/c trim that you already have. The a/c trim you need is 996 552 677 00 01C. Also need 2 brackets for the a/c display in the new location - 996 573 501 00. Then you will need a storage bin for where the a/c display was - 996 552 243 01 01C. This guy might be interested in your cupholders. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...851entry38851
  15. What happened to the navigation unit? You should contact Sky King. He will have all the parts you need for the cupholders. If not then there is a retrofit kit Porsche sells. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...457entry38457 Do you have the smooth or raised covers for the switch holes?
  16. You can replace the muffler without removing the bumper cover, but it is easy to remove the cover and you will have more room to work. Nick on the Porsche Club Great Britain board bought one for his 996, and gave it a good review. The German seller said he can make it not so loud, loud, and louder. I assume this is done by changing the diameter of the bypass pipe. Do not know if you have this choice for the 986
  17. If you push the button twice you get a beep because the motion detector was turned off. I do not close the center console lid all the way because I am usually walking away from the car by the time I set the alarm. The exterior lights flash (I think twice) when setting the alarm. People have talked in the past about hooking up a piezo device so that you would get 2 sound signals that comes on when the lights flash.
  18. There is a black plastic electrical connector to each coil, covered by a rubber boot. I pull that boot way back before I disconnect the connector. After the plug change I then I connect the connector and slide the boot back on. Only way you can see what you are doing and if the connector is actually seated. I bet you do not have a connector back onto the top of the coil and the engine is running on 5 or less plugs.
  19. From my failing memory, there were 3 Traffic Pros depending on the color of the display. Amber that we use for Porsche. And red or some other color(s). Other than the color of the display they are the same. Just watch out for something called Traffic Pro II. This was made for Ford and has a green dispay.
  20. This red light stuck on issue did not start until 2001 when Porsche went to the electric lid releases and added a button to the remote. Split the case and remove the battery and put it back in. If the light is still on then buy a new battery and put it in the wrong way for about 10 seconds, then put it back in the correct way. Instructions on how to split the remote to replace the battery are in the owners manual. If that does not work then most likely you have a bad remote.
  21. When the CDR23 needed an adapter it was a EU-30, or and EU-10 and EC-20. If the CDR24 is the same then it should be the same adapter(s).
  22. Always wanted to put one in at our work on cars day. When this unit first came out a local 996 guy bought it and we were going to put it in but then he traded his car. I would have bought it from him but the Boxster unit is different. Another local guy named Poursha/Russ has it. Make sure you have the correct unit beause he is not the only one that was sold the wrong unit. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...&hl=B&M
  23. 4th pic. What option?
  24. Correct on 1st. Close on 2nd. Here is the 3rd. Hint - the 3rd trivia pic has a tool clipped onto the back of the fuse cover.
