  1. Never seen a 987 windstop retrofit kit. Do you have a picture of all the parts?
  2. After you enter the code you push the toggle switch on the right with the arrows. If you are doing everything right and it still does not work then pul the radio and check the serial number on the radio against the serial number on the code card.
  3. If so, then the filter would be here.
  4. I have never watched this being done. By the time I show up at my dealer the old mount is already out and on the shop floor. But I have not seen any indication that coolant was added so they must be able to remove the mount without taking off a radiator hose. But they have a lift and an engine jack. I assume the rubber part on your 2.5 has started to slide out of the housing, so that the engine contacts the body when you go around a turn. One of the mechanics suggested that it be pounded back in, then drill a hole in the housing, then put a screw in the hole to keep it from sliding out. If you look at a new style mount there is a plate on each end of the housing so that the rubber bushing cannot slide out like on the old style.
  5. Did you hook up the oil pressure gauge yet, or are you waiting for the 3.4? If so, you might want to tell people how you did it. If the outside temp display worked then that is because it had already been turned on in the 996 cluster. The 2.5 guy with 5 speed manual who put in a 996 tip cluster never mentioned a flashing gear indicator light. In fact he wanted the tip gear indicator lights on the 996 tip cluster to indicate what gears he was in on his 5 speed manual.
  6. I think a C4 is like a Boxster. It is under the car after you remove the plastic covers. It is somewhat hidden by the black metal coolant tubes. It is about in the area of the brake lever. The large silver round thing.
  7. If the connector is like the one used on a 2.5 then you slide the lock back to separate the connector.
  8. If the gauge is good then it is usually the sender unit on the engine. One of the electrical guys will have to figure out how you test the sender unit to see if that is the problem, but these cars are not known to have sender units go bad.
  9. What are you doing with that POS 1997. Replacing every part one at a time so you can tell people you have a new car. I think someone on the 996 side asked about this retrofit. Do you have the thing with the buttons that goes in the door sill.
  10. The carbon fiber covers more than stainless steel. There are no versions.
  11. The 996 transmission turns is a different direction due to the rear engine.
  12. The 986 Bosch plug used by Porsche for 2000 up 2.7/3.2 is FRG 6 KQC. The "C" at the end means it is copper. According to the Bosch site the plug that ends in "E" means it is nickel-yttrium. I have never seen this plug. Porsche uses the copper plug for the 986. But I see the plug used for the 987 is FRG 5 KQEO. So it looks like a nickel-yttrium plug is being used in the new cars. Im curious. Buy the nickle-yttrium plug if you can find it so we can see what it looks like.
  13. There is a slight drag from the pads. Push the pads back a bit and the rotor should spin freely.

  15. Do you know or can you find out the part number(s) for the two seals that were just put in?
  16. Canadian clusters have different part numbers from US clusters due to the metric thing. You can use an S cluster. New clusters are expensive. Call your dealer since there are many part numbers. The mileage is stored in the cluster. So if you put a new cluster on your used car it will show zero miles. But the dealer can set the mileage in the new cluster to match your car.
  17. When I put the 986 board in the 996 cluster I had the same issue - the voltmeter did not work. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=304&st=20 I did not drive the car with it this way to see if the digital and analog speed displays matched. There was no reason for further testing since the purpose was to have the voltmeter and oil pressure gauges. As you said, the boards must be different.

  19. We need clusters for parts, unless VDO will start selling parts. Long ago I asked the mechanics at my local dealer for defective clusters that had been replaced so I could use them for parts. Problem is, if it is a warranty replacement, is that the defective cluster is kept at the dealer for 90 days in case Atlanta wants to see it. After 90 days it is supposed to be destroyed. When I got the 996 cluster long ago I wanted it so bad that I took my Boxster cluster apart to see if I could swap parts over, and I saw that I could. But as I stated in the previous thread, I chickened out because I thought I would end up with 2 clusters that did not work properly. My Boxster cluster is on top. The 996 ebay cluster on the bottom.
  20. You are supposed to have the engine running and the valve open to get the air out. When I replaced the tank in the trunk I filled up, warmed up the car, lifted up the valve and went for a 15 minute drive.
  21. Bring it to a shop that repairs wheels and have them look at it. You would be suprised at what they can fix. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=3904
  22. http://www.pca.org/tech/tech_qa_question.a...5-C3D0D8AB252D}
  23. I doubt if you stripped the threads on the allen bolts. Are you saying that your allen wrench is not a tight fit in the 6 point socket in the head of the allen bolts? So that the internal socket of the coil allen bolts are rounded? And, are the coil bolts on each side of the engine that you were not able to remove the ones that are closest to the front of the car?
