  1. You can use the new style transmissions but you also need the new style mounting studs. There are 3 for each transmission.
  2. Per the TSB the new style e-gas sensor went into production January 31, 2000. So your car has the new style, the one that starts with the 986 part number. The new style part originally ended in 00 and now it ends in 01. I think you can use either without reprogramming. Reprogramming is required if your car had the old style with the 996 part number and you want to put in the 986 part.
  3. This will be even more expensive if the remote key codes cannot be transferred to the new unit, unless you have the paper tags. Without the tags and a fried unit you need to buy new remotes. And it is a stupid design to have the control unit under the seat. You are not the first to find this out.
  4. A true OBD code reader is for emission code faults. Airbag light is not emisssion related. Durametric and I think another company has come out with OBD expanded software that can also turn off the light. It is a 5 minute job to turn it off. I do not know of any trick way to do it. If you were in the San Jose area then there are a few local owners who could turn it off for you.
  5. That part is shown with a GT3 style seat.

  7. Next is to rule out the latch microswitch and top relay control unit. Key on, hand brake up, unlatched. Stick your finger in the hole for the latch. Press your finger in and out a bunch of times to operate the switch (there are actually 2 switches) while you operate the top dash switch at the same time. Next, pull the top relay and see if it has a black dot on the bottom of the relay.

  10. Where did you take your car to?
  11. You do not need to modify anything. Without the control unit you will not get the beam rotation, but others have put them in without the control unit. Then you have to deal with MOT since you will not have the level sensors and washers. Hope the units work. Strange to sell headlights without any bulbs.
  12. According to PET it is the part in the picture with the 2 round ends.
  13. Can't tell if your plug has the same problem mine did. I do not have your tester. On mine there was a plastic tab which prevented the plug from seating. I carved away the plastic nub from inside the tab with a chisel, as in the second pic. That nub would prevent my plug from seating until I removed it. The first pic is Loren's plug. You can see that the entire tab has been removed so that the plug would seat.
  14. Show me a picture of your female plug, like this.
  15. No help from me. I am the mechanical, not electrical guy. 2003 info. http://www.pca.org/tech/tech_qa_question.a...B-FC0DCF3C5765} If you give up I can ask Peter, or come by and I will cut the useless stalk off. :D
  16. I think he is from Guernsey, and might be the only Boxster on the island. The 2000 US owner's manual has a bulb chart for the standard and lits. Download it here. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?a...iewfile&fid=947 The black plastic headlight housing also has markings that tell you what bulbs to use. From the bulb chart you would need the xenon low beam bulb which is a D2S. The high beam and fog lights are the same H7 halogen bulbs in your standard lights, so you can swap over those bulbs. Looks like the parking light bulb is different. The expensive part is going to be the 2 xenon bulbs. Porsche says to use the Philips brand, but do not be limited by that brand since you will not matching. Osram also makes that bulb, as do other companies. Do a Google search under xenon D2S.
  17. Instructions are in the shop manual. Looks like the aftermarket has caught on. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...me=STRK:MEWA:IT
  18. I know not to use a a DSP or MOST amp, and I doubt if I could use a 2002 Bose amp since it is digital. To be safe I will look around for a 1999, 2000, and maybe a 2001 996 amp My January 1997 has a Nokia amp. But I have seen Haes and Harman amps. I always thought Porsche simply had more than one supplier, or you got one brand for a Finland car and another brand for a German car. I would not pay more than $30 for a crappy Porsche amp. :D But I do want the OEM look. I will ask Peter if he knows why there is a coupe and cab amp. This question was sort of asked here. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=3389
  19. 000 044 200 09 is the original pre-2003 kit.
  20. Your picture is a dot matrix cluster for a car with the OBC option. Your cluster has a segmented center display because you do not have the option. Two different clusters. But you can still do the retrofit. Your car will look like the one below. You need to do the retrofit with the stalk or switch because the OBC displays are shared with the trip odo. Without the stalk or switch you have no way to cycle through the displays, so all you would see is the trip odo. The 1997-2000 cluster is different. On those years you could have the OBC turned on and see the outside temp without the stalk or switch. That is what your mechanic was trying to tell you.
  21. I have been looking on ebay for a 6X40 watt M490 996 amp, as I might put rear speakers in my 1997 Box. What I have noticed from the ebay pictures is that there is a cabrio and coupe amp. I know nothing about amps or 996s, except that a 996 cab is a fat Box. :D I would assume I need a 996 cab amp, but I see more coupe amps. Any of you audio people know if it makes any difference to get a 6X40 amp from a coupe vs. a cab?
  22. Someone finally did it. http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=47268
