  1. I was supprised the pad material was so "soft". Drills real easy. Did not crumble. Made a clean hole. Takes just a few seconds for each pad.
  2. Just match up the hole in an old pad with a new pad that does not have a hole. In the pictures the new pad is the thicker one that I drilled the hole.
  3. The Mintex front pads I put in did not have the holes, so I drilled them.
  4. On a 2003 the internal lense is amber with a clear bulb, just like litronic headlights. If you remove the lense then you would need amber bulbs or the silver bulbs that flash amber.
  5. That may be a function test when the lits are a factory option. I do not have time to look in the shop manual.
  6. Xenon is low beam and halogen is high. When you select high the low beam rotates up a few degrees to fill in with the high beam. Since you do not have the control unit you do not have this feature, unless you buy it and install it. There are others over the years who have done just what you did, so I would not worry about it.
  7. If I remember correctly, the drain tube runs to the wheel well. If you look in the wheel well you will see a black plastic plate with 2 plastic nuts. When you test a drain with a hose do you see water comming out in that area? You might want to remove that plate when you do the test. The other thing is the foam lining, which I think Porsche calls a drip pan. Any holes or cuts anywhere in the foam? What did your dealer do? I'm out of ideas. It is usually the drains that are blocked or cuts/holes in the drip pan.
  8. We reuse them if they are ok. I still have the original sensors on my 1997. If your light is not on then just buy pads and save yourself the money.
  9. It think it is 986 504 983 00 - called a base plate.

  11. Any hardtop from a 1997-2004 will fit any other 1997-2004. The profile of the side windows on a 987 is different than a 986. So a 986 hardtop will not fit a 987.

  13. There is no umbrella valve/plunger for the top drain holes. This is misinformation on the Dieter site. The plastic plug they show is a plug for the spin lock insert. They like to fly around and end up under the top near the drain hole. Just clear the 2 drain hole of debris and run a garden hose in there to make sure they are clear.
  14. Contact Jeff Mercurio at Wheel Tech near the San Jose airport and see if he can do it. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=3904 He has a wheel lathe and works on a lot of non Porsche wheels. Tell him Jeff Lopez the Boxster guy suggested to give him a try.
  15. All colors have a clear coat. Over the years I have heard claims that the paint is made by Glasurit (owned by BASF), or Sikkens, or Spies Hecker (owned by Dupont). In reality Porsche could have several suppliers, and different suppliers depending on where the car is assembled. There was an article in one of the magazines, I think Panorama, and it was said to be Dupont.
  16. It has been a long time since I did this. Turn the adjusting bolt to remove the play. I seem to remember that you turn it in the opposite direction you would think.
  17. All those black Boxsers look the same, so I checked them all out. Looks like your ride lost the amber lights over time.

There are 17 pictures in the album that you linked to, called 1997 Porsche 986. http://carboncow.net/php/gallery/view_albu...bumName=album98 Looking at just the wheel pictures I see 3 different Boxsters and wheels. None of them are 16" wheels. I see the 17" 2.5 twist. 17" Boxster S. And what looks like the 18" turbo look.

  21. There is for the 987 version that lights up when you open the door. Is that what you are looking for when you have a 986?
  22. 16k miles. Still tasted good. Ok, I'm not going to Porsche heaven. But Porsche now says 20k miles on the 987. The Wix filter was $19.95. You can find a Mahle/Porsche filter for less money. I wanted to try the Wix not to save money, but to try something different. Too bad I do not have a way to determine if they perform any differently.
  23. Back to my unapproved oil change. I finally found the time to do it. I like the Wix filter. I stuck it in the bottom of the cannister for a picture and it seated right into the valve. I do not do it that way with the Mahle filter. The Wix plastic end cap and o-ring seated so well that I just screwed the cannister back in by hand and the cannister bottomed out like it should. The Mahle has a paper-like seal and I would stick that filter up in the engine before screwing on the cannister. For you overfill freaks, I measured about 1 1/2 cups of oil in the cannister with the filter in in the cannister. That is the reason for the white measuring cup in an otherwise empty drain pan. So, close your eyes. 9 quarts of 15W-50 are in my car. And I did not replace the o-ring for the cannister or sealing ring for the drain bolt, or use a torque wrench, and this is the third oil change on MY CAR.
  24. It is still running - on it's second engine. :rolleyes: The engine had been replaced before the picture was taken, so the combined info is shown. Now this 1998 Boxster is a strange one. Minus 1 in Range 1. Something about the memory chip running out of room and the counter starts over with minus numbers. The owner autocrosses. We have another owner with high numbers and he also autocrosses.
