  1. Ebay, but there are so many bidders it sometimes jacks up the price so much that it is in the range of litronics. I was very lucky and got a pair of 996 clear halogens on ebay years ago for $350. It had a buy it now price, so there were no bidders. We have a local 2003 owner who put in litronics, but he already sold his clear lights. I'll keep my eyes open for a local 996 or 2003-2004 Boxster owner who wants to put in litronics.
  2. I took these pictures of a 996 targa 4 years ago in the parking lot outside the service area of the local dealer. Must have been done by a jealous bird with a baseball bat.
  3. The OBC retrofit and the parts needed have been covered many times. If you are going to buy the stalk, then might as well get a 4 stalk unit and do the OBC and cruise control retrofit at the same time. The instrument cluster for 1997-2000 is different than 2001-2004. On 1997-2000 you could have the OBC turned on and see the outside temp without the stalk or switch. On 2001-2004 if you have the OBC turned on you will not see anything unless you do the retrofit with the stalk or switch. This is due to the fact that the design of the instrument cluster changed.
  4. Over the years at our local work on cars days many oil changes on different Boxsters have been done. Sometimes the oil filter cannister is on so tight you would never be able to get it off with just your hands.
  5. For a RHD: #2 is 996 551 212 00 - foot support. #5 is 996 551 612 00 - cover - foot support.
  6. Porsche makes a sport exhaust for 2003-2004. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...entry7742 But it is expen$ive.
  7. Two things come to mind. (1) Microswitch for the latch. (2) top control unit/relay. But these are related to each other. When you unlatch the top do the windows drop down a bit? If not then stick your finger in the hole again, up and down a bunch of times, while you hold the top switch down in the open position. Then remove the top relay. The relay panel is just above the fuse box. Stick your head under the steering wheel. The top relay on your year is black and it is twice the size of the other relays, most of which are gray. Pull the relay out and give it a tap, then plug it back in. Report back.
  8. Left 986 551 431 00 01C. Right 986 551 432 00 01C.
  9. That is not my car - I have a 986. That picture and a few others of the European 987 that hit some bird were all over the Boxster boards some time ago. Pheasant is my guess. Taste like chicken....
  10. This is a better link. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...entry4094 Andi/Andreas is the other German who was making sport exhausts. You can see in the link he registered on Renntech, but that link is 3 years old. Andi would also cut the muffler open, but would not tell what he did. I guess the sport exhaust makers like the Stuttgart area. Eisenmann makes the factory sport exhaust, but I do not know if the are near Stuttgart. http://www.eisenmann-technik.de/ This is the Oettle site. http://oettle-autodienst.de/ When if first saw their mufflers they did not have a 2003-2004, but now I can see in your ebay link that they do. It looks like it clears the bumper. The special edition bumper is the same as the normal 2003-2004. The special edition has a screen on the diffuser, but this does not matter. If you check on boxa.net there is talk of finding a local place to do this modification.
  11. I have had 3 windshields - due to rocks. Now, we got to watch out for birds....
  12. You can remove your special edition tip and send it to them. I don't know how they could use that tip for the bypass pipes. You may have to use the single or dual tip. The other thing is I don't think the bypass tubes will clear the bumper on a 2003-2004. They would have to keep the bypass pipes close to the muffler. That is why there was another German guy making a sport exhaust for the 2003-2004. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...373&hl=Andi
  13. Remove the face plate and clean the contacts. Then, there is a 10 amp fuse on the back of the radio. You need to pull the radio out to check this fuse. Where did you get the regulator?
  14. The 220 radio was used 1999-2002. Why is there a 220 in your 2003? Should be a CDR-23.
  15. You need to put the top in the service position and clear out the water drains. When the drains get clogged the area under the top fills with water and then it seeps into the rear of the cockpit.
  16. This is an "ear." The cover was removed for mounting the roof rack. Then Porsche decided it was not necessary when mounting the rack to attach it to the hardtop, so the ears went away.
  17. All 986 hardtops interchange with any year. 1997 and had the "ears" but this has nothing to do with how it fits. The parts you need to mount the top are the 2 inserts and 2 bolts shown in the picture.
  18. I got to hear one of those in person. You used a 2003-2004 muffler or the tip. All this started with 2 German guys selling the modified muffler on ebay.
  19. The muffler on the 2.5 1997-1999 mounts differently than the 2000 up cars. If you want to put a 2000 up muffler on a 2.5 then you need the adapter kit. http://jp.tripout.co.uk/photos/stuff/s_exhaust/zorst.htm
  20. I think the LCD displays can be swapped. I had considered taking my good middle display out of the Boxster cluster and putting it in the 996 cluster to replace it's bad middle display. But the display is connected to the circuit board with what I think is called ribbon wire. The ribbon wire is the tan things in the picture that connect the displays electrically to the circuit board. In post #2 I said it was easy to remove the circuit board from the back of the instrument cluster. In the current picture you can see the removed circuit board sitting on what looks like a telephone book. The "book" is the Porsche price list in paper form that we used back then. I was not brave/stupid enough to unsolder the ribbon wire from my good Boxster cluster to see if I could solder it to the 996 circuit board. I can solder, but all those little solder joints for the ribbon wire in the circuit board looked too much for me. I did not want to end up with 2 screwed up clusters.
  21. That is the 10 disc changer. It will work. The thing is it is about 50% larger than the 6 disc 2660 changer. Porsche had to go with the 6 disc due to space restrictions. Since it it larger it will not mount like the 6 disc changer. Therefore it is usually mounted in the area below the front trunk latch.
  22. That is only on the 2.5. I always thought is was to control noise and removing it would do nothing for performance, but you should notice a slight induction sound increase. The 996 owners have something like this and they plug it off with the "orange plug" hack. Take it off and plug the hole and see what it does for you.
