  1. Then this is a new one. When the car when it was new came with 3 keys, 2 of which were remotes. Since you have a used car I do not know if you have any other keys to try. There are many ways to get into a car. I think the simple method for you is to find a tow truck driver that has this long thing - like a coat hanger from the old days. This is it on a 996 but the Box is the same. You hook the end of it onto the inside door handle and pull.
  2. I think magcuda has it. Search under Baum and you will find him.
  3. The plastic storage box behind the seats does not get in the way.
  4. Are you saying you cannot unlock the car like this?
  5. This one sold for $45. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...p;rd=1&rd=1 On Germany ebay. You buy something like this just to get the OBC stalk.
  6. Makes sense that it would work, somehow, on a 2001 996 as the instrument cluster on a 996 did not change until 2002. On the 1997-2000 Boxster we would just turn on the ignition - did not need to start the car. The a/c control unit is from an Audi. The LCD display goes bad. There is a guy selling just the LCD for Audi. I asked if it would also work on a Boxster and now he sells it as an Audi/Boxster LCD. But I do not know of anyone who has actually tried to replace the LCD on a 996/986. If you want to give it a try or donate the defective display to me and I will try it - let me know.
  7. You might try a UK board to see if someone has parts for your 2.5. http://www.boxa.net/forum/index.php? http://www.porschaforum.com/forum/index.php You can use the S muffler, but you need an adapter/mounting bracket so that it will bolt to a 2.5. I don't think you can use the other parts of an S exhaust system.
  8. Just 3 - stop complaining.... Back in 2004 it was a tie between Scouster/Berny and Jean on the number of replacement seals. I think Berny had another seal put in since then. In Jean's case Porsche ultimately replaced the engine, again, and again. As far as I know Jean holds the record for the number of replacement engines. Read all about it. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...618&hl=Jean
  9. I was told by a dealer mechanic that when you replace the a/c display you had to code it with a PST2 or it or the display would flash. If you put in a used display then maybe the mechanic meant this was for a new display. Anyway, that is not your issue. I think the display needs to be for the correct year. I started Boxstering in 1999. We were able to change between C and F by pushing the buttons on the display. When the 2001 Boxster came out we were not able to do it by pushing the buttons. I thought it had to do with the fact the Boxster instrument cluster changed in 2001. I never tried it on a 996, but the 996 instrument cluster did not change until 2002 I did not have a PST2 back then, but I have something just like it now and can give it a try. There is talk of a local work on cars day and if we do it you can stop by.
  10. Seems to be the week for alternators to go bad. Follow the links. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=14483
  11. You should have the alternator tested to make sure it was the problem and if it can be fixed, or does it need to be replaced. Here is info on the regulator if that is the problem. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...amp;hl=transpro Your ebay link does not work. If you need another alternator. http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/showthr...481#post1138481 Too bad the 6speed 996 guy did not get back on the Autozone alternator as Autozone is down the street from me. Autozone has an alternator listed for your Boxster for $224.91 USD. You have car parts places like Autozone in Canada.

  13. Same as you do with the standard halogens. Instructions are in the owners manual.
  14. I spoke to a mechanic I know at my local dealer today. He said the tracking devices do not draw that much. He thought it was more likely the alternator or maybe the starter. He said to do what vizcarra44 sugggested. It has been a long time since I looked, but there is a little black box with a cover on it in the engine compartment. Under that cover are 2 cables that are bolted together with a nut. I think those cables hook up the battery to the alternator and starter. Remove the nut and disconnect those cables. Then test the draw.
  15. You can buy the control unit from any Porsche dealer. If you had purchased the litronic retrofit kit then it would have been included in the box with the headlights. Some people who buy the retrofit kit do not install the control unit and if you can find a person like that you may be able to buy the control unit. It is not hard to install. You need to remove everything in the front trunk. You need to hook up wires to the control unit so that it will operate, and then the wires from the control unit to the headlights. Porsche has written instructions on how to do this. The local owners also filmed how to do this and put it on a DVD. In the picture Henry is holding the control unit while Ray is filming. The purpose of this control unit is simple. The low beam/lamp is xenon. The high beam/lamp is halogen. If the control unit is connected then when you turn on the high beam the low beam rotates up a few degrees to combine both beams. This rotation is done via a motor in the headlight. But without the control unit the motor will not work. Your plug with no wires to it is to operate this motor. You can still manually adjust the angle of the lamps without the control unit.
  16. You are missing the control unit and the wiring harness. 4 wires come from the control unit to the headlight, and another 4 wires go to the other headlight. There are people like you who just put in the headlights and do not bother with the control unit.
  17. http://www.pca.org/tech/tech_qa_question.a...9-284D52B42EDE} http://www.pca.org/tech/tech_qa_question.a...7-84710F816889} If you measured correctly then 2.5 amps is way too high. A few years ago my battery would be dead in the morning after I had driven the car a long time the day. This happened several times. I would even put the battery on a 10 amp charger for several hours and next morning it was dead. But the battery (from Autozone) had been replaced about a year later. I hooked up my meter to see if somehing was draining the replacement battery. Not an electrical guy. When I look at the picture I had the meter dial set to 10 amps. I should have used a smaller scale. At the 10 amp setting it was .04 which I assume was 40 milliamps. Peter Smith says no more than 40 milliamps. Scott Slauson says about 20 miliamps. So I ruled out the car as being the cause of a dead battery. Autozone tested the replacement battery and gave me another. If you are positive the draw is 2.5 amps then the problem is with the car. Even if the trunk lights were on when you tested the 2 little trunk light bulbs are not going to draw 2.5 amps. While your meter is on you are suppose to pull one fuse after the other to determine which circuit is causing such a high draw.

  19. I spoke to the parts manage at my local dealership and we think this is what is going on. His name is Enrico at Stevens Creek Porsche in San Jose if you want to order it from him. 408-247-1655. If you look in the current PET you cannot find 996 613 980 00, which is the gloss footwell switch. Only the matte fotwell switch is listed. But there are 3 of the gloss switches at the parts warehouse in Ontario, California, and 138 switches in Germany. This indicates to me this switch has been discontinued. I went through this a few years ago when Porsche discontinued the steering cloumn switch assembly we used for the 1997-2001 OBC retrofits in gloss finish, as Porsche replace it with the matte finish assembly. Once the existing inventory of the gloss finish was gone we had to start using the matte finish assembly. I think because the switch is no longer in PET Sunset cannot determine the finish and/or the years (1997-2000) that had the gloss finish, but it can be ordered because it still exists in inventory at the warehouse.
  20. This is what I use. As you have noticed the hole on the 4 spoke is smaller than a 3 spoke.
  21. Left clip is 631 245 00. Right 996 631 246 00. Black plastic bracket that you slide the headlight into and then lock it in place. Left 996 631 041 00. Right 996 631 042 00. According to PET if you buy a bracket it includes the clip.
  22. No new battery pictures in a month. First is an Interstate in a 2001 Boxstir. It was missing the vent tube adapter. The tube in my hand and the black plastic part went into the original Moll battery. Second is a Sears International in a 1997 Boxstir. It had the vent tube adapter. Third is interesting, on a 2003 Boxstir. Years ago if a battery was replaced under warranty Douglas was used by the dealerships as a replacement. It is easy to tell because it is all white. Fourth is a Centennial group size 48/91 on the floor next to a Moll 70 amp hour. I do know know this company. http://www.centennialbattery.com/top.php
  23. T30 work on both the 3 and 4 spoke steering wheels.
  24. Picture of the top of the gas tank next to the sending unit on my 1997 Boxster. Battery tray removed for the picture. No sensor there - but I have a 1997 and I don't think 1997 had this sensor. But if the part you need to replace is #5 in the diagram I do not think it would not be under the battery tray.
