  2. Filter and belt are 60k miles items. If you question about the hoses you can inspect them, but there are a lot of them all over the car. I have a 1997 and have never replaced a hose.

  5. Adding bypass pipes is nothing new. First saw it 3 1/2 years ago on German ebay. Made by a guy named Andreas Herrmann near Stuttgart. I contacted him back then. He also used vacuum valves on the pipes and opens the muffler to modify the inside. Follow all the links as I asked about it on a German Boxster board. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...entry4479 Andreas was clever. Porsche had not yet come out with a sport exhaust that would fit a 2003-2004. Then about 2 years ago I saw a similar version on German ebay and a UK Boxster board that only has they bypass pipes. No valves and the muffler is not opened. When I was in contact with Andreas he said this guy use to work for him. I always wondered if this was Marcus.
  6. Take pictures. I have never seen this actually done. When the glass window top came out in 2003 everyone wanted one. But when you price the 4 bow frame and glass window used on the 2003-2004 it was in the $8,500 range. Then Peter thought you could just buy just the 4th bow and add it to the 3 bow pre-2003 frame, but that was also a lot of money. Then a few years ago the owner of a local independent Porsche shop said he was thinking of doing the retrofit on his daughter's Boxster. But I have never asked him if he did it or not.
  7. When the 987 came out I asked this on rennlist from a German guy who works in the 987/997 styling department. He said the side glass windows on a 987 are different. To use a 986 top on a 987 you would have to put in the glass from a 986. Then since you changed the glass you also need to remove the 987 soft top and put in a 986 top. Also, the hardtop for a 987 has 987 part number. I also saw a picture of a 986 hardtop on a 987. The profile of the windows between 986/987 are different. I have the humps for my 986. When the 987 came out there was a tech session at the local dealership. I put my silver humps on the 987 and they did not fit. In the picture it sort of looks like 986 humps fit the 987, but in person they did not.

  9. On my 1988 Toyota PU a brass spring-loaded pin is used for the horn. The PU has no air bags. When that pin wears down is does not make contact with the horn contact ring when the steering wheel is in certain positions. In 18 years I have replaced that pin twice. Having the key off or on does not matter since the pin has simply worn past it's useful limit. The airb bag/horn contact used on the 986/996 is way different. I would be very supprised if the steering wheel position has anything to do with the 3 Porsches that have horn problems. But give it a try.

  12. The replector is supposed to be sealed. It is 2 pieces glued together. Over the years I have seen cars with condensation and even water in them.
  13. There might be an error with the Walker application guide catalog, where you look up Walker part number by the vehicle. In this Walker catalog 250-24423 is shown for the rear sensor for a 2000 Porsche Boxster. If this is a Walker error then it will be repeated by oxygensensors.com PET has the rear sensor as Porsche part number 986-606-128-01. Using the porsche part number on the Walker oem parts interchange catalog the rear sensor comes back as a Walker 250-24647. The front sensor also comes back to the same 250-24647 number. I think you need 250-24647 and the 250-24423 is a Walker catalog listing error that got repeated by oxygensensors.com. http://www.walkerproducts.com/O2_sensor.html
  14. I don't know because I have a 1997 2.5 and have not paid attention to the oxygen sensors used on the e-gas cars with the starter cat on the manifold. On the 1997-1999 2.5s all 4 sensors are identical, including the connector. I also recently bought a Walker 250-24423 for my 2.5 and the connector on the Walker sensor is the same as the oem Bosch. Looks just like your second picture. The Walker catalog for a model year 2000 has the pre-cat as 250-24647 and after the cat 250-24423. When I looked at their catalog for my 2.5 sensor I was suprised to see that a 2.5 (250-24423) sensor had an application on an e-gas car. I actually thought it was because the wires on an e-gas sensor where longer than the 2.5 sensor - did not think the connectors could also be different. On the 2.5 sensor there is a lock on the connector. You need to slide the lock open to remove and mate the connector. When I look at PET for the Porsche part number for the 2.5 sensor does not have an e-gas application.
  15. For a street car you can't go wrong with Ate. It has slightly higher boiling points then the stuff sold by Porsche. I think Porsche says to change it every 2 years. I'm talking about a street car. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=2810 Most of the local owners use Ate, the amber or blue. It is about $10 a liter and you will use about 2/3rds of the can. The amber and blue stuff have the same specs. The blue stuff is just a dye. It has been said that the blue stuff is called "racing" because it is not DOT approved because of the dye. To be DOT approved brake fluid is supposed to be an amber color. From the picture you can see the boiling points for both are the same.
  16. In some countries, like the UK, the alarm also has a tilt sensor. This is to meet the requirements of certain insurance companies. We do not have this tilt sensor in the US. There is a retrofit kit but I do not know of anyone who has tried to install it. It also comes with an alarm siren with a built-in rechargeable battery. So if someone tries to disable the alarm by disconnecting the main battery the alarm siren goes off.

  18. I asked the mechanic today. He does most of the top replacements at the dealership. He takes the top off and replaces the bow. He has not tried welding the broken lug back on, as they are a dealership and replace broken parts with new parts.
  19. I have done the retrofit on two 2003s. 4 wires to the instrument cluster connector and the 5th wire to ground is how it was done. Just looked at a 2003 wiring diagram and you are correct. It shows a 5th wire for the OBC in position C25 called "lever inside." We never put a wire in this slot. My guess is that there is a wire in this slot if you have the OBC as a factory option. Keep in mind that you are doing a retrofit to mimic the OBC option, but what you actually get is what the OBC option looks like on a 2001. A 2001 wiring diagram does not show a wire in slot C25. A 2003 instrument cluster with the OBC as a factory option has a dot matrix middle display. Your non OBC instrument cluster does not have a dot matrix middle display. When you do the retrofit on a 2003 you do not see all the information you can see if the car had the OBC from the factory. Instead, you see the basic displays used on a 2001 with the OBC option. Your OBC may not have been turned on. Unless you have a very early 2003 the order type need to be entered before you can turn on the OBC. If it has in fact been turned on then you may not have it wired correctly from the connector to the stalk to the instrument cluster connector, plus the ground wire. The stalk could be bad. No clue on why the cruise control does not work. Make sure the connector to that stalk is still connected. Maybe the guy turned it off while he was trying to figure out how to turn on the OBC. Lastly, make sure all 3 connectors on the back of the instrument clusted are seated properly and locked down. Hard to figure out what is going on over the internet and not having the car in front of me.
  20. I check the website for a cars part chain that has a shop down the street from where I live. They have a rebuilt booster for $136 USD. It is also used by certain VW and Audi models. Now that I think about it all the boosters I have seen had a Lucas sticker on them. I can see a Lucas sticker on your booster. Lucas, Prince of Parkness, for electrical parts, and now waterlogged brake boosters.... Pelican Parts is ok. I am on the Boxster section of their message board.
  21. Been Boxstering for 8 years and have never seen this problem on the message boards. Now, there are 3 cars with the same problem. No one has posted a fix. Still a mystery. Did you replace the switch because of the horn, or just because of the usual electrical problems with the switch and/or the key sticking. Did your horn work properly with the old switch. Who makes your replacement switch.
  22. The indicator on the switch lights up because of the heated mirrors. For your heated glass there is a connector near the seat belt/roll bar on the drivers. There is a little black plastic flap that covers the connector.
