  1. I was addiding fluid every couple of months. Nothing on the ground. The common cause is the pump return line on tracked cars. But nothing there. Then I remove the small clamp on the power steering rack bellows and pulled back the bellows. The fluid came out. A bad seal. I have a January 1997. If that is also your problem it is not common. But Porsche is on the 7th generation rack. Since my car is so old Porsche does not even want my rack for a core.
  2. When my Boxstir was hit a few years ago I used German Autobody in Santa Clara. Owner is John Rost. http://germanautobody.com/ I have also been to a PCA tech session at Cecil Beach's shop, Bodystyle. The Brokaw Road exit off 880 near Fry's Electronics. I think you would be happy with either shop.
  3. Should have first looked at the pictures of my own 2.5 before responding. The intake "muffler" is bolted to the lower nut.
  4. I always wondered why there were 2 welded nuts on that backet. Not used on a 986. I have the answer to one. Used as a clamping point on a 996 for a hose(s).
  5. When the intermediate shaft fails then the oil dumps on the ground. Don't know what else to tell you that would help with your claim.
  6. Need to see a picture. A picture taken like my picture.
  7. I do not like electrical stuff or problems. I have a spare window motor and the 8 pins on the motor are not numbered. So you have to look at the connector that you plug into the motor to see if the numbers are on the connector. If so, then you can confirm with the wiring diagram as it has the colors of the wires that you match to the orientation of the 8 pins. Have you opened the door connector yet to check the condition of the pins?
  8. Do you have a picture of what is under the drivers seat? The picture in post #11 is a 1999 owned by Patrick. I have a January 1997 and it looks just like Patrick's. We both have the remote/alarm option and that is why the sticker on the control unit has the option number M535 on the white sticker.
  9. The remotes on these cars sometimes just crap out. Changing the battery and so on will not fix it. One of the mechanics I know has a draw full of them. If you have the second remote then try it. The control unit referenced above is under the left seat, drivers seat on a LHD.
  10. Don't know what that is supposed to mean. I have the 1999 wiring diagram in paper form and pin 1 is "door contact switch." I take it that is what tells the window to lower a bit when you open the door if I was to guess.

  12. There is a 1997 wiring diagram here. The window motor is on sheet 4. http://www.cannell.co.uk/Manuals.htm This is the best I could do.
  13. There are a lot of male/female pins in that connector. Speaker, door lock, door light, and so on. You would need a wiring diagram to know which pins are for the window motor. I was thinking just open up the connector and visually check the condition of the pins. Don't know why your window motor is not working, but your build date is within the window period for a problem with this connector. Porsche subsequently put a vent on the rubber boot for the connector due to the moisture problem.
  14. Don't know what the problem is, but you might check the connector that goes to the door. In cars made prior to May 1997 water can get into the connector and corrode the electrical pins. Porsche issued a bulletin on this in 1998 for model year 1997. That was this guy's problem. http://www.986forum.com/forums/showthread....ighlight=window
  15. There is a picture of the latest generation seal here. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...pic=15&st=0
  16. Here it is on a 996. http://p-car.com/996/diy/waterpump/ Belt replacement on a 986. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...amp;#entry10610 Check the bearings on all pulleys. Don't know anyone that routinely replaces the thermostat when the pump is replaced. Have seen this aftermarket pump on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/New-Porsche...sspagenameZWDVW http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/New-Porsche...sspagenameZWDVW Takes pictures and notes and then put it in the DIYer section.
  17. If your amber headlights were stolen, then where are you going to park with litronic headlights?
  18. Pry off the old one and snap on the new one.
  19. I know little about the RTS. Does your hardtop have "ears" and you mount it to the ears? And your answer may not matter, as I do not know if you can buy individual parts for the RTS.
  20. And the engine. Focus is on VarioCamPlus.
  21. Make mine a tractor. A Porsche tractor of course.... Here is how to build a Carrera GT.
  22. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...=windstop+clips
  23. The clock is off.... Well, it powers up and has the dot matrix middle display. Wondered if that would work on a 2001 986. So, what is the story with the fuel gauge?
