  1. You can't change the OBC units when you do the retrofit on a 1997. There are different clusters for the different countries. The hybrid country if I remember right is the UK. When they do the retrofit the temp is in C but the distance is in miles.
  2. I do not remember the solution. But is has been mentioned before. A LED draws less power than an incandescent 12 volt bulb. Cruise does not work if the brake bulbs are burned out, or if the computer thinks they are because the voltage draw from the LEDs is less than what the computer wants to see. So you use a resistor to trick the computer into seeing the electrical draw it is happy with. But you already knew that..
  3. I have a 1997, which was the first year. It has been so long I do not remember all the details. The door lock thing I think was for model year 1998. In the US we did not even have a one touch up for the passenger window in 1997. That started in 1998. The window and top up thing started in 2002. I remember this because we took the top relay out of a 2002 and tried it on an older car. Did not work. Different control units. Live with what you have or buy a newer car..
  4. Common problem. Time to replace the ignition switch.
  5. The switch has a small 2 wire electrical connector to it. Remove the connector from the replacement switch and see it you can jump it with something small like a paper clip. Report back.
  6. The door speakers are for bass, and that is why people think they are not working. Try some different tunes.
  7. It does help to have a rubber arm. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?/topic/3752-clutch-mr-toolpants/page__p__18030__hl__bleed__fromsearch__1entry18030
  8. This started in 2000. A raised lip was added to the left intake vent. It was to keep sheet rain water from being sucked into the engine, as the raised lip shed the flow.
  9. If you want to go to San Jose I can do it. I will most likely be at the Parts Heaven swap meet in Hayward on June 6th and can do it there.
  10. As you have noticed the 4 spoke air bag will not fit a 3 spoke wheel. They are hard to find at a reasonable price. When I switched to a 3 spoke years ago I got lucky. Local owner was making his S into a track car. I got his 3 spoke and air bag for $400. We have a local lady Boxster owner who got a 3 spoke and air bag for free. Another local owner had totaled his car. So a few of the local owners went to the tow yard and did the swap.
  11. I have not been keeping up on this stuff since the .02 cap that was sold in a .01 bag for a while. The black caps I have seen were "aftermarket" but made by the same company. Did not pay attention to the old West Germany. As stated, VAG uses this cap. I have a January 1997 and my original cap has the VW/Audi logs on it.
  12. CARB has long been out of control, and I wish we could get rid of it. http://killcarb.com/
  13. Little late, but I would check to see if someone has removed the wiper relay. One of the functions of the relay is so that when you turn the wipers off they "park" themselves at the bottom of the windshield. If you remove the relay the wipers will operate, but when you turn them off they stop in that position. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?/topic/31744-wildshield-wiper-does-not-stop/page__p__168503__hl__wiper%20relay__fromsearch__1entry168503
  14. I use oilive oil. Extra virgin of course.
  15. Because I have a 1997 that I have owned for 11 years I have had 6 smog inspections. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?/topic/19983-02-boxster-s-does-not-pass-emissions/page__hl__smog__st__20 They don't check timing like in the old days on old cars. It is run on the dyno at 2 speeds with the sniffer in the exhaust. The smog machine is hooked up to your car via the OBD port. While they are waiting for the results to be printed they are supposed to do a visual inspection and check the fuel cap. I was never charged more because it is a Boxster. It is actually much quicker to smog the Boxster than my 1988 Toyota pickup.
  16. Here it is on my 2.5. You can see the blue electrical connector that powers the pump.
  17. There is an electric smog pump that comes on when the engine is cold, then go off as the engine heats up. Maybe that is what you are hearing. The pump does sound like a fan.
  18. This is normal on my 1997. Cluster lights stay on for a while after your remove the iginition key. Then go out. Maybe you did not notice this before the battery problem.
  19. This is one of the issues when the after market glass tops came out for the plastic window cars. The 2003-2004 cars have a 4 bow top, while the plastic window cars have 3. I think some shop was charging and extra $50 for working on a glass top car that originally had a plastic window. car.
  20. Is that a 1997? Remove the wiper relay and see what happens. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...83&hl=wiper
  21. Where are you. I think the 21 is the UK or euro version of our 210. The 210 was used 1997-1998 and then replaced by the 220. The 220 can replace the 210. In fact when the 220 came out people were doing this because the 220 has aux-in and the 210 did not. The 210 uses a metal mounting frame that the 220 does not use, so you have to remove your frame for the 220 to fit.
  22. 99% of the time it is going to be because the electrical connector to one or more of the coils is not seated properly, if the coils were disconnected during the spark plug change. The rubber boot for the connector sort of gets in the way when trying to fully seating the connector. It only takes 1 of the 6 connectors not being seated properly to make a 6 cylinder engine run rough on 5. At the work on cars thing, I remove the coils and replace the 3 plugs on one side. Then I start the car to see if there is a misfire. If there is, then I know it is 1 of those 3 connectors not being seated properly. If there is no problem I go to the other bank to replace the other 3 plugs. If you replace all 6 and then start the car and there is a misfire, then it takes longer to figure out which plug is the problem.
  23. Your year did not have a light for the trunks. What you are seeing is the spoiler light that goes off once the cars starts to move.
  24. Rear plug on the passenger side. Make sure the connectors to all the coils are seated.
